  1. Everything you are thinking about is the same as I did. I was banded may 23, 08. But the more I thought about the rest of my life, the more I didn't want to weigh what I did or even more. That for me was my answer. I wasn't happy with me and if what it was starting to do to my body. Two months ago I was told I had high blood pressure and my left knee was now bone on bone. The weight needs to come off for a better future. Good luck and I will be thinking good thoughts for you..

    Glad to find the 50's!

Thanks Nanc, I think I'll survive another week. I'm glad you posted what you are eating gives me something to live for. Seems odd being at home (i work) with all the time you would think I could get things done. WRONG. I've been really really lazy. The only other thing I have done is gone out shopping. Hubby isn't to sure how great that is going to be since I took off from work for 6 weeks. Shopping and spending well at least I'm helping the economy right... PS It's not food I'm shopping for

    GP derailed me today!

Way to go. I'm so glad your PCP is now going to help you. Mine wasn't thrilled either but I believe that yours changed his mind after he saw that you weren't in for a quick fix and really investigated the band. The journey continues...

    Glad to find the 50's!

I am a week behind you being banded 5/23. So I'm curious how are you doing and what are you eating. I'm having real food withdrawl. The first 5 days were no problem, now I think about food more, and TV commericals are the worst.

    Quick Question...

No No No. What they should have warned you about is all the bacteria in pools. You don't want any of that near your incisions. I live in AZ pools everywhere. That was a big warning to us. If you have to go near/in you probably want to get water proof bandages. Then watch your incisons carefully...

    GP derailed me today!

I wrote a letter to the PCP and got what I wanted. I would ask him in a letter what he has against WLS. If you don't like your PCP I would just get your records and get a new doctor.

    Liquid Diet Woes

You have done FANASTIC in my book. Many of us complain about 2 or 3 weeks of the liquid diet. You should be so proud of what you have done. I KNOW i WOULDN'T HAVE LASTED. I hope you get your band soon.

    Question about Realize Band Fill

Wow, what a difference in fills. I was just banded May 23, and won't see a fill for 6 weeks. I see the doctor next week and will ask what they usually do on a first fill. This reminds me that all doctors are so very different.

    GP derailed me today!

My PCP wasn't all that thrilled with WLS but I wrote him a letter explaining my attempts at weight loss and my families history of heart diease and high blood pressure. With that he gave me my referal. I was surprised. I would get a copy of your medical records because they always show weight and blood pressure on them. That to would document long term obesity. Which mine did. Who ordered the sleep test? If you went to another doctor he might write that WLS could be benefical. That's what I did with the cardiologist I saw. All these things help your cause..

    Expensive Program fees and WLS

I used Bridges Centre out of St Lukes. I have a different insurance and they only required 1 year health records. I would talk with different people who deal with the insurance companies directly. Banner out of Phx also has a bariatric center of excellence. Their bariatric person was really nice.

    any other az bandster's?

Day 3 out of surgery, does anybody else have trouble burping. I can't seem to. I've used gas x and it helps a lot. I can't believe I'm saying this but I would love to burp. What a dumb issue to have.
  13. I had my surgery on May 23. It went fairly smooth. I had the heprin shot to the tummy I really didn't feel it. Rolled into the surgery at 9:30 and was rolling out at 10:30am. Was in the recovery for 1 hour then off to a room. I was lucky didn't get the sore throat I was expecting. Once in the room I was basically left alone. Slept off and on till about 3pm. Then had to ask for help to get up. Waited awhile before some one showed up. At 4pm finally got up and walked the halls. Felt sore and some discomfort but not terrible. Walked the halls three more times. Had very little Water because wasn't thristy but I knew I had to drink. Left the hospital at 7pm and was in my own bed by 8:30pm. I had the option of staying but was not really impressed with the nursing staff. Better treatment from my hubby. Today, still some discomfort walking around the house and out to the mail box. Took half a gas-X table because of some gas. Stopped it right away. Been drinking fluilds and trying to get the Protein in. Found a chocolate milk 1% with 17 grams of protein only 210 calories. Hopefully everyone has a sucessful surgery and recovery

    Getting Cold Feet

I made it through and yes I had some 2nd thoughts on thursday but friday I was calm and looking forward to gettig the weight off. I will say the hospital staff was only so so. I had the compression legs on but nobody connected them. I had to ask twice to have somebody help me up (disconnect the wires). I was in a room by 11:30am after recovery and didn't start walking till 4pm. I was due to be discharged at 7pm. And only at 6pm did anyone ask how much I had to drink. I was kinda glad not to stay overnight. Doing okay just feeling more discomfort than pain. Have my pain meds though. Hopefully everyone is doing great.

    May 22nd!!!!

I made it to band land yesterday. Had surgery at 9:30 was in recovery waking up at 11am. To a room at 11:30. The staff wasn't real big on getting me up to walk, finally at 4pm I asked the nurse to help me up and walk. Seems they forgot I was being released that night. Haven't had alot of pain more discomfort and soreness. No pain meds yet but I do have them. I think the challenge now is getting all the fluids that I need. Glad to hear that you are all doing well.

    Surgery today 5/22

What a great day for you!! I hope my surgery goes as well tomorrow.
  17. Seems like you realize what your doing, but I wonder how much of our eating is simply habit. I know in the past I just ate anything really didn't realize what I was doing. Good thing you are aware of your eating. I think you'll be okay.
  18. Snowbird, if you don't mind me asking, did you do the endoscopy for a certain reason. One doctor told me to do one every year to check on the band. Said to get the PCP to order one. My surgery is in 2 days. Can't wait and hope to have your fantastic results....

    May 22nd!!!!

My mind and stomach must be playing tricks on me. For most of the day I haven't felt hungry. I have been trying to do more liquids than regular food. I only have one day liquids preop. I found a 1% choc milk with 17 grams of protein. Bummer I'll have to give it up and do clear liquids after surgery, but it's only 2 weeks. I can do it. We all can do it. Good luck to us all. Hurry up and come friday the 23rd.

    Getting Cold Feet

Ja, I would have sworn that I wrote what your did. Everything you said is the same for me. My surgery is friday and I hope your surgery goes well.
  23. One of the surgeons I talked with said that he requires all his patients to have the test at one year out to see that the band is still in the right place. It seemed like a good precaution to take. Since that's the only way they can see the band.

    Story of my surgery today!

Wonderful description of your big day. It's great to hear how some people go through their surgery. I hope mine surgery next friday goes as well as yours. How long were you actually at the hospital?
