Isopure ready-made protein drinks
pqmr replied to Jennifree's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Sure is! It's the only one I can drink. -
No. I'm bypass. For me, its relative. One sitting for me at a meal is one hour. So yes, I can eat 3/4 in an hr. Can I eat 3/4 cup of meat; any type of meat-well no. Can I eat 3/4 cup in a half hour-heck no. Do I eat 3/4 6 times a day-no. Can I always eat six times a day-no :-(. I usually have one meal a day-at lunch that is 1/2-3/4 cup. I really really try to have this one meal because the rest of my day is snacks: half a bag 3/4 oz of Protein chips (you must try them), 3/4 of a Greek Oikos yogurt, 3 tbs cottage cheese, one tuna pack, etc. I eat my Snacks in about 15-25 mins. Most of the time I eat 2 tbsp because that's about all I can stand. My NUT says to eat 1/2 cup 5 times a day. Not going to happen for me. If I'm awake from 530a-9pm-that's 15.5 hrs. That would mean I'd have to eat 1/2 cup every 3 hrs. Not gonna happen. Not feasible for me at all. Now, I can eat every 4 hrs if it's a couple tbsp or so. Then there's also the variable of not drinking 30 mins before or after eating... But to answer your question. My doc suggests eating 3/4-1cup at meals. In fact, I have constantly scolded for not eating enough. My NUT and surgeon also do NOT want me relying on getting my protein in liquid form at this point. I think I've rambled enough. Ha! I hope this all makes sense. Btw-I'm now 35.5 lbs down from sx on 3/14/16

Are you sleeve or bypass? I may be wrong here- but shouldn't we be keeping to 1/2 cup of food per meal? I'm bypass, maybe that is why? I'm 6 weeks out as well and can't eat more than that physically. I'm so scared of stretching that little pouch! Lol Are you sleeve or bypass? I may be wrong here- but shouldn't we be keeping to 1/2 cup of food per meal? I'm bypass, maybe that is why? Ok everyone. I had about a 3 week stall. Then, all of a sudden-BOOM. I lost 14lbs. Couldn't believe it. So, don't give up and don't get discouraged. I can now eat about 3/4 cup of food 6 weeks out. My vice is Jamba juice smoothies. I drink about 3 oz twice a week. I feel like it's bad because it tastes so good.

How much time did everybody have to take off after surgery
pqmr replied to Mudgy6's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon wanted me to take off six weeks and I did. I'm lucky enough to be paid at 100% though. If you can, take off the 4 weeks. I was ok to go back 2-3 wks post op. Def not before then. I personally needed at least two weeks to cope with the changes my body was experiencing and the lifestyle changes associated with that. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Thanks for your advice. You always have positive, constructive feedback.

I'm finding out that stalls are very common. My sx date was 3/14 and I'm down 25lbs post op. The first 21lbs were in the first two weeks. Have you been taking pictures or measurements? Although I haven't lost much more since 2 weeks post op I can literally see myself shrinking. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I totally agree with ange117. I was at 273. I would have been good going back to work 2-3 weeks post op. Definitely not before then. I was exhausted from calorie reduction, recouping, and pain meds. I stopped pain meds (dilaudid and fentanyl) 8 days out. I then took Tylenol 3 as needed for pain-usually at night though I still had pain most of the time. With that being said, take off as much time as your job and budget will allow. I am 5 weeks post op and getting in Protein and fluids is still a full time job for me. My doc highly suggested taking 6 wks off, so that's what I did. I could have went back to work at 2-3 weeks if I absolutely had to. I will also tell you...about 3 weeks post op I bent down to pull on my Ugg boot and felt a strong pull followed by pain on the left side of my abdomen. Went in to my doc and was told I pulled a muscle. He said that even though I may have felt fine, I was still healing from a major sx. Take it easy and best of luck! When do I start feel human again
pqmr replied to ambernicole22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with everyone about walking. It's tiring and sometimes difficult but it DOES help. I walked around the house. I didn't have a problem with gas pain after day 3 and I truly believe it was because I walked. One week post up I was up to walking about 6000 steps/day. I'm one month post op and I still get tired. I think it is a combination of recouping from a major sx and our bodies adjusting to the drastic decrease in calories. I eat about 500-600 calories/day but I'm up to 10,000 steps Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
When do I start feel human again
pqmr replied to ambernicole22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What you're going through is totally normal. I felt the same way and ended up calling my physician. He too confirmed that it is normal. I can tell you that I felt 10 times better on day 8. I also stopped taking pain meds during the day on day 7 and only took them at night. You just went through a major surgery. Do rest, you need to, also be sure to get in your Protein and fluids. You will feel better sooner than you think. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Has anyone had any positive post op experiences?
pqmr replied to berkeleycurves's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everything has been great so far. I'm one month post op. Of course I was in pain the first 7 days., which was expected, After that I felt much better. Sometimes I can't believe how well I'm doing and how much control I have on what I put into my mouth. Biggest complaint would have to be that I can't drink a lot of fluids at once (over 4 ounces) when I am thirsty, but that is normal. It's been great experience so far and it's really really working for me. I'm 5'5. Started at 273, didn't lose any weight prior, and I'm down 26lbs one month post op. I'm just not hungry. It's great! average weight loss your first monthout
pqmr replied to tracyh1110's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it's relative to where you started. 30 lbs is great!!! I'm a month out today and I'm 26lbs down. I started at 273lbs, I'm 5'5, and didnt lose any weight prior. But I also have been doing a minimum of 8,000 steps/day since 1 week post op. Don't be discouraged! You're prob on track. How much did your surgeon predict you'd lose? How far are you off from that goal? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
A Beef about my Surgeon
pqmr replied to Pedro Valle-Inclan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure. However, I have seen and will continue to see my surgeon at each post op visit. I don't know how he manages to do that with all of his pts Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
2-weeks post-op update
pqmr replied to DeletedMember's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@teabear and msujester..So glad you two mentioned stalling at 3 weeks post op. I went in for incision check and had not lost any weight from weeks 2-3 although I am eating under 500 calories and walking a lot. Today I walked nearly 10k steps and 6k yesterday due to college visits for my daughter. Although, I'm not too worried about the stall because for ONCE in my life I feel like I have total control over my eating habits and know I'm putting nutritious food into my body. I'd be curious to see when our "stall period" ends for all of us. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Isopure ready-made protein drinks
pqmr replied to Jennifree's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Luck Vitamin online has them at reasonable prices. I bought the variety pack which is on sale right now for $38.34. Hated the mango peach and grape so I mixed those with fuzzy peach nectar Protein to drink them. I also bought the lemon tea-this was hands down the best. I think they all smell horrible though. Best thing to do is avoid smelling it/breathing it in-sound ridiculous. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Hello. I'm 18 days out post GB and I'm having a REALLY hard time eating. I'm supposed to be in the soft food stage. I eat 2-3 tb of cottage cheese and 1/2 slice deli turkey and that's all I can get in for the day. I was told to eat every 2-3 hrs and that I'm not eating enough. In between eating I'm sipping Water and Protein drinks. But after I eat I'm full for 3-4 hrs. Honestly, I'd be more comfortable sticking to a liquid only diet. I feel less thirsty/dehydrated and less full. I basically feel full 24/7 trying to get in liquids and eat. Who knew eating could be difficult? I know this is all over the place, but I guess I'd like to know how everyone else progressed with eating and how you got in your protein. Eating is causing me to get in less than my minimum rqd protein. My concern is getting enough protein. But I can honestly say that I'm stoked that I don't have to eat a lot to feel full. I'm having a hard time eating!
pqmr replied to pqmr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was surprised the NUT suggested I eat those items too. Also on the list are tuna and eggs, just to name a few. I'm going to keep on drinking and not worry about eating. Txs everyone -
I'm having a hard time eating!
pqmr replied to pqmr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup. We're in the same boat. My NUT is pushing food. But for the sake of protein I think I'll have to stick with fluids/shakes. I wonder if this will change though. I can't just drink forever. -
