I was sleeved on 10/27 in DC. Just got out of the hospital yesterday. Happy to join this group. I want to know if anyone had issues with their incision scars and see there is already a robust discussion on hair loss, which I'm following closely. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I had my surgery around noon yesterday. Everything went really smoothly; my gall bladder was also removed. I woke up and didn't realize for a minute I had actually had surgery. I didn't feel much pain at all. In about 30mins though a bout of nausea took hold. I spit up just a little. I also had relatively mild gas pains and took a gasx strip, which worked wonders. My friend had the nurses bring me nausea medicine (the nurses said they didn't have my orders so I didn't get anything but I've and pain meds until after 9). Now that the nausea has subsided I feel pretty good. I took another gasx strip just to head and possible gas off since I've read on this board how horrible that can be. So far so good... Very little pain and I can walk around just fine. All in all it's been pretty a good experience for me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Surgery was yesterday
gigiinDC replied to gigiinDC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I finally got released from the hospital this afternoon. I had extreme nausea but virtually zero gas pain. They had to switch me off morphine and onto some other pain killer and then gave me this ridiculous nausea medicine called reglan. It was the worst thing I've ever experienced. I wasn't allowed to even have ice chips until late Saturday night (surgery was noon Thursday). Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Late decision change.

That definitely makes sense a lot of sense. You should try to get an appointment with your doctor rather than dealing with his/her staff. Perhaps the doctor will be more reasonable than staff. BCBS requirements
gigiinDC replied to mommabear2311's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's so weird-- I have BCBS federal and only requires 3 months (not 4) supervised diet, psych eval, physical. They did not 2 years of weight charts prior to approval. .. maybe because I had a baby two years ago? Idk, but I did not have that requirement... I was approved in less than 12hours once my paperwork was submitted by my PC. How did surgery go? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Late decision change.

Perhaps they were trying to deter you from changing your mind? Either way they are being really mean about it! There's no excuse for that when they can just get insurance yo reauthorize the procedure... it's vsg a shorter operation than bypass? I don't understand why it would be so much of an inconvenience for them... Anyway... I'm just curious why you believe vsg is better for you than bypass... is it the malabsorption or healing process concerns? Just curious.. I'm having vsg on Thursday. Good luck everyone!! I'm going in on Thursday Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My surgery is this Thursday the 27th, so I really can't give you any advice. The only thing I can say is that I know it will get better. You are so lucky to have gotten this surgery at 22. Before you know it you will be smaller and even more beautiful than you already are. Right now just focus on healing and getting through this tough time... before you know it you will be able to work out and you will start putting on those new clothes and being able to go out feeling 100% proud of your new body and confident as every 22 year old young lady deserves! I am 39 and I wish I could have done this at 22. This phase shall pass and you will be so glad you did this in the end. Best of luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

It will get better. I did cheat but increasing my Protein from 4oz to maybe 6oz a few times. I was feeling dizzy every night which is not good when caring for a toddler. I decided to increase Water instead.. still a bit dizzy but it's now been just over 2 weeks and I'm down 12lbs.. totally worth the struggle. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hi everyone, I'm a single (divorced) mom of a 2 year old (27months). He is a big guy-- 3ft, 38lbs! His dad now lives in another state and my family is all in NY/NJ. I already pay $2k/month for daycare (yep daycare in DC is more expensive than the avg college), and I can't afford the added expense of a full time live in nanny. His aftercare nanny will have him at her house while I'm the hospital and take him to daycare with her when she goes to work (she's a teacher at the daycare). Unfortunately she has kids herself and so can't come to my house to do morning and bedtime routines my first week back. My close friends will all chip in, especially the first week/ weekend, but they are all busy professionals and I'm afraid they can't guarantee something won't come up. I'm working on a schedule for 4/5 friends to come over to help on the weekends and a bit during the week, and will pay someone else to come over in the mornings to get him ready and drop him off at daycare, then pick him up, bring him home feed him , prep lunchbox for next day and get him ready for bed M-F.. For those of you with small children-- My question is-- when will I be able to pick up/ care for my son-- reasonably?! I know the doc says 4-6weeks for lifting, but I absolutely cannot afford a live in nanny plus daycare or rely on friends for that long. I am 100% committed to figuring this out but it is scary as hell! Thanks in advance for your advice. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm so excited .I started going to my surgeon in march and just found out after constant delays by the doc and being told I wouldn't qualify by my patient coordinator, and then a discovery of chronic veinous insufficiency that I am APPROVED. The paperwork was just submitted yesterday after 4pm and I was approved by 9am this morning! My patient coordinator expected to battle with insurance for several reasons... instead it was the quickest approval she's seen... Amazing!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How long did it take for doc office to send approval form
gigiinDC replied to mshaw's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! I talked with the doc on Thursday afternoon, the coordinator submitted the paperwork to insurance on Monday afternoon ant I found out on Tuesday morning (yesterday), I was approved. My surgery date is 10/27! I recommend that you email them and ask to be switched to another doctor ... that will get things moving Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
