BCBS requirements
gigiinDC replied to mommabear2311's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have BCBS FED Basic Ppo. I had 90 days supervised diet with a nutritionist a psych evaluation (over the phone interview), and another physical. If you are at 40 BMI it is easier.. no comobidity required. If you are under 40 bmi they require at least two comorbilities. My primary physician referred me to the Bariatric surgeon but only for nutrition services as my bmi was under 40 at the time of the referral and he told me I would not be approved for surgery. Once I saw the surgeon she told me I could qualify even though I wasn't at 40bmi.. it was a bit confusing but long story short I was approved. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Just did some real disrespectful stuff!

This is great advice. I knew I was supposed to chew slow but honestly didn't realize just how slow I needed to chew. I thought I was eating puréed salmon slow but didn't realize slow means like literally snails pace, at least at first. Like at least a few/several minutes of chewing for newbies. It means you have to pay extreme attention to everything that goes in your mouth. I also started only eating with teaspoons or baby spoons to make sure I'm limiting my bite size appropriately. Wow, 53lbs.. that's amazing! I too have made mistakes and paid for it. Im two weeks post op and tried to eat puréed salmon .. my doc said puréed fish was fine. I felt like I was going to die.. ate it too fast and didn't chew enough. Same thing happened with eggs. I overcame it! Listen some people have to learn the hard way. I'm one of those people too. Constructive criticism is helpful and should be taken well but in my opinion anyone who is pre op really can't have a valid opinion yet. Just ignore them. I gained 20lbs and got approved with bcbs federal but we discovered during my 90days I had a pretty severe case of chronic veinous insufficiency which precluded weight loss and can cause weight gain. I had a very severe case. Before it was discovered I was told by my coordinator that there was no way I would be approved. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm two weeks out from sleeve today and when I told my doc I can actually drink a lot of liquids she said liquids quickly slip past the stomach and therefore don't stretch it. I can almost chuck liquids right now. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Tomorrow I'll be two weeks out and I'm absolutely exhausted all the time. Mind you I was up late last night election watching but I also took a two hour nap every day this week. How is everyone doing for energy? I'm going to ask my NUT about adding a small morning coffee or green tea. Has anyone had adverse reactions with either this early on? My Multivitamin supposedly has the recommended b12 dosage and I try to walk everyday.... may try swimming tomorrow. I return to work on Monday and am concerned I won't be able to handle it (I work in politics and there are already tons of meetings/strategy sessions scheduled). I'm already mentally and physically drained just thinking about it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Yes I plan on several breaks and walking around the building in between meetings. Thanks for the helpful advice. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Good to know coffee was ok! I'm scared of dehydration. I get almost 800 cals/day. Is that too much? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Very true. A walk usually helps me feel better. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I find that sugar free Jello helps my urge to chew.. it's a weird chew but it's still a chew! Is the gum not giving you gas issues? I'm going to ask my NUT about gum tomorrow Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Dr lee and her residents are also amazing for the record. The Doctor is very skilled and I think her unique technique is why I experienced no gas pain. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Always hungry.. failing.. feel like I'm stretching my stomach
gigiinDC replied to megan1971's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you for this post and for the helpful replies. I too still feel actually hungry (not just head hungry) 9 days post op. As soon as my doc approved puréed foods two days ago I started making poor food choices. Given the previous post I'm wondering if I'm hungry because I never took the prescribed acid meds post op. Update on OCt sleevers.....
gigiinDC replied to ppressey24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved on 10/27 and was put on purée stage exactly on week later this Thursday. I am not handling it week to be honest, not because I can't tolerate the food but because I think I am eating too much and making bad choices. I've stalled since starting purées... lost 18lbs since pre op and 12.5lbs since surgery date (9 days ago). I'm going to resume full liquids tomorrow to make sure I'm disciplined enough for purees. I was a "super healthy" fat person until surgery changed my life. Was it worth it?

You absolutely should not stress about it! It will come off and your are doing great so far. I hope the hernia area heals soon. Listen to your body and rest up! I'm jealous have a two year old so I won't see 12 hours of sleep for another 16 years lol. I'm at 252 today and my main complaint is I'm suuuuper constipated! Have my post op in an hour and I'm hoping i can get some tips on this from my doc. It's the worst feeling. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Congrats!!! I know it feels great to be down to a weight you haven't seen in years. I was sleeved on 10/27 at 271lbs. Also had my gallbladder removed and the combination caused severe nausea. I'm feeling so much better now! With the drain and gallbladder removal I ended up with six holes. The worst for me is the drain site. I too experienced no gas pain whatsoever. This morning I was down to 254.4lbs which is pretty amazing. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

For the peeps who were 280-290 PRE OP...
gigiinDC replied to ML573663's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're my inspiration. I too started at 271, sleeved at 266 on 10/27, now I'm 254 just five days later. I'm 5'8. Looks like yoga really helped you. I'm hoping to get back into bikram yoga in the next month or so! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
