Never heard of it?
-
Someone told me that when you have something stuck, try sipping a little bit of "pinapple juice" because something about the enzymes in it breaks down the ball of food faster. I had eaten some chicken breast too fast yesterday and had that lump (not serious PB's - but they would be coming) and drank some pineapple juice....and could hear the gurgiling and finally the lump went down!

Need some good advice from people that understand.....

Don't fret, this band thing is a test in adjustment........the band and yourself. I have been filled, unfilled, overfilled, underfilled and am still working on that just right fill! Try getting a little more fill and give it some time........many bandsters go 6 months before starting steady weight loss. I'm 5 months out and only 29-30 lbs gone and those came off during initial surgery and those moments I was overfilled and suffering from acid reflux...have yet to hit that 2 - 3 lbs. a week steady loss....but working on it! -
Due to the fact everytime I get a fill that gives me good restriction, I start having acid reflux; I'm having to deal with less fill, therefore, more food and less full feeling, so getting a prescription to take the edge off the hunger. I've taken it many times in my lifetime. I was one of those that loved the phen/phen and did great with it until it got pulled off the market. It was the only thing that ever took away my desire for sweets.

Has anyone used Dr. Spiegel
lyndalafe replied to Hopes place's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I used him also and what do you mean about his practice on fills? How much? When? How much? -
Well, first of all the Hamburger/Bun might be something you will NEVER be able to eat again! You might try soft Proteins.....fish....very tender and marinated steak....tiny tiny bites..........chicken salad....tuna salad .... If none of these work either - then you might still be too full as far a your fill goes...........I was filled at 1.8 once and 1.9 once and developed acid reflux problems and now am at 1.0 cc; which might not be enough....but doctor won't fill anymore until I lose 20 lbs..........soooooooo have to use a little will power along with band I guess. Most people prefer to be a little underfilled vs over filled...need to get solid food down somehow w/o pain.

I don't think this is normal??? You are suppose to eat 3 times a day and be able to eat 3 oz at least of some protein....fish, chicken etc., so your saying you have eaten little to nothing since January????? and if you are only losing 1 lb. week.....body might be in starvation mode??? think you could be too full? and if you can't eat solid food and haven't for a month...don't see why they can't get you in sooner? Sometimes you have to push them and let them know you are concerned and seriously think you could be overfilled.......???? -
I'm a fellow Nebraskan...........been living in Houston for 20 yrs....but a true "Red" Husker thru and thru...........had surgery here in Houston in Nov.

We all go thru those "relapses" of falling back into old habits. I had to have a total unfill for the 2nd time due to Acid Reflux and am struggling to maintain the weight loss I had..........the idea is Okay you fell off the wagon....you had fun and enjoyed all those good food items........Times up! Get back on the wagon before you end up hating yourself....its over done....today's a new day! Don't go backwards....you just fell off the step...and get back on it! Please do it now....this moment...don't wait!
-
I have had this same problem twice and am totally unfilled for the 2nd time? On this Organic Apple Cidar Vinegar...do you drink it or take pills? Also each time have been unfilled, they have done barium swallow and say there is no slippage???? I spent 3 weeks not sleeping thru the nite and yet I could sleep during the day? what's up with that!
-
I hate to do this, but's its been a week since he took some of my fill out and still cannot eat much w/o PB's soup......smoothies included. Also the acid reflux at night isn't as bad; but it is still keeping me up half the night, soooooooo guess I'll get a total unfill AGAIN! let my stomach rest a week or so and then get filled again? Are there some people who's bodies just reject the fills and tightness. Frustrated and scared !
-
Well last Thursday 3/16 had some fill taken out....1.9 to 1.2....have been doing liquids and on Sunday had some soft food. Of course, doctor said there should be no reason for band to tighten during a flight??? Then I mentioned that my fill had been less than 2 weeks earlier and maybe it was kicking in? and there again they looked at me like I was from another planet......soooooooooooooooo who knows; but I know what I felt.
-
Well, I have tried the liquids only routine since Monday, and getting no where fast. My nightly horror of the acid reflux has rendered me tight to the point that Water is hard to consume. It's not apparently what I'm eating but the acid reflux that is causing a lot of irritation and swelling and it just keeps getting worse. So have appointment tomorrow to have a little of my fill removed....goodness can't wait for the relief...have not had solid food for a week!:faint: i'm at the point I don't know what caused the change or why - just want it out:eek: !

From the various replies, I guess we can assume that some people do feel tighter restriction up to two days after flying. I realize that we cannot quote scientific materials to verify this, however, its like most things in life...doctors don't always believe us when trying to explain mysteries of the body. Unless there has been a hugh study or paper done on it; then it doesn't exist. I know if the future when I fly, I will be very conscientious about what I eat 48 hours following.
-
Well from the variations in responses, whether or not we can quote a truely scientific solution; it appears that flying affects band restriction temporarily (up to two days); for some of us. Knowing that, I will be more careful and conscientious as to what I eat immediatley following a flight.
-
I'm wondering too if it has something to do with the amount of your constriction. I flew in December after 1st fill of 1cc; but didn't seem to notice change. Now I'm at highest fill so far which is 1.9 and just that difference could possibly be the difference.:hungry:

Problem is 10 years ago this surgery was done rarely and i don't think at all in the US.........so you see we, those of us that have been banded in the last 4 yrs to now are your test group:confused:

2.9cc - 4th & hopefully last fill!

Praise the Lord, could this finally be the sweet spot? As you can see from my ticker its been a fill and unfill journey.....but by golly this might be what I hear y'all talking about. Got fill on 1/23 to 1.9 which is actually .1 over the previous fill that had to be unfilled due to not being able to eat and acid reflux. BUT this time I did what I was told.....no solid food for 4 days unless you count a mushy potato in some soup. Yesterday was able to eat some pepper steak cut in tiny tiny pieces with a little rice....about a cup saucer size and oh my God! is that the feeling of F U L L! YES! Lunch today....ate the small pieces of chicken out of my soup and small salad and 8 frito chips and I'm stuffed..........Okay I'm excited. -
Not at this point, but can't wait until it happens! Especially when chocolate doesn't take good.....and right now I luv that Choc/Rasberry yogurt!
-
Yep, it takes us all a few awful episodes to learn our lesson. On my second fill, I thought I knew best and did not do liquids for 3 - 4 days and then mushies like doc told me. I kept trying to eat reg food and developed one heck of an acid reflux problem and was in pain no matter what I tried to eat, even liquid. Had to go get total unfill and then a little fill and now yesterday went back and doc filled me a little above the 1.8 I was at when I screwed up...now at 1.9. I promised him I would behave and follow the instructions and he laughed and said "you know we give these specific instructions for a reason and if you don't follow them it hurts you not me"!! Soooooooo bet your bottom dollar this kid is going to be on soup for 4 days and then mushies for another 4 before starting solids.... Like Jack says, if we suffer enough, we might learn! (But damn I have never been good at following the rules)........always coloring outside the lines!

My doctor can't believe it.............

That's great! so what do you eat? and have you not been hungry or did you just get you mind set that you were going to start eating healthy no matter what? -
yes....get some taken out quick.............vomiting just causes swelling which aggrivates the situation more...etc etc................could also cause dehydration................:omg:
-
Personally I think all doc's try to keep you away from solid food as long as possible............. however i managed to stay on clear liquids for 4 days then to creamy liquids next 5 days and was doing scrambled eggs and runny cream of wheat by end of week 2.....cause i was starving????????
