I need to know it gets better!
Kittymappus replied to Rvamom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am three days post op, surgery was on Tuesday, and I know how swollen and bloated I am just from the shock of surgery so I can only imagine you are too! Given how puffy my hands are I have the expectation that I will not have lost any weight by the time I have my first post op follow up with my surgeon. Remember they pump us full of fluids to prevent dehydration and gas so they can see what they're doing. It's going to take a few weeks for all of that to work out of our system. I'm about two days out of surgery, just came home last night. Today I've been able to get down about 40 ounces mixed with 2 tablespoons of GENEPRO medical grade Protein which means I've gotten 60 grams of protein today! I've also been using a timer on my phone set for every 7 minutes or so. My problem hasn't been getting enough Water but drinking too fast. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Cost of gastric sleeve without insurane

$13,500 in Austin, tx with Dr. Ganta Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
I'm a clinical social worker having a VSG done this coming Tuesday. My professional opinion and personal experience has been that they are confusing loving your self with honesty about health risk. I love the hell out of myself! Enough to have a permanent surgery so that I can live a long and healthy life doing the things I love to do. Admitting your fat and need to make a health decision does not equal not loving yourself and that is where most people in that movement are confused. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I'm not sure who told you he doesn't deal with insurance.... He's my surgeon for a sleeve on May 10 and he takes all kinds of insurance. I personally am private pay but I know several of his patients going the insurance route. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

How long did you lose weight for?
Kittymappus replied to mariahthompson0913's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Good to know! No, I don't *want* to do that but after 10 years of trying to lose weight and being unsuccessful, I'm willing to live with pretty much whatever requirement it takes for me to maintain a weight loss and get my health back Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
How long did you lose weight for?
Kittymappus replied to mariahthompson0913's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Im still in pre-op but I also have major thyroid issues... I've always found that whole concept that I need to eat more to lose to be false. I can eat 1400 cals a day and burn 1000 more than that according to my fit bit, living on a pure paleo diet and lose nothing. I think for us with thyroid that calories in calories out is a lie and that we have to go lower on the calories to lose weight. Also, working out too hard seems to send us into a downward spiral where we also don't lose sight if we're pushing it too hard. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

Dr. Neff works out of UT Austin department of social work which is where I attend school too. I haven't met her yet but I am very hopeful I can get into one of her classes this fall! If you like her you might also like Brene Brown who is out of UT Houston. You can find her stuff on her website. www.brenebrown.com Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

I am scheduled for May 10th for a VSG in Texas but I also suffer from IBS-C and use a coconut Water liquid probiotic to deal with it. It seems like A LOT of people have constipation issues after surgery between no Fiber, pain meds, etc and I wondered if anyone knew if probiotic use was allowed shortly after surgery? I try to avoid medications if possible but am not particularly opposed if thats what needs to happen either. I'm using the Probiotics regularly now so that when surgery happens all *that* is under control. Its only about a 1 ounce drink but its a little fizzy due to the natural fermentation of the bacteria. Should I go ahead and buy a costco size jar of stool softener or just keep using the probiotic? Thanks!

Where in Texas? I'm in Austin. My surgery is also about 5 or 6 weeks out, its scheduled for May 17th but I'm trying to reschedule for the 10th. I am working on drinking water throughout the day, testing recipes for the liquid phase, and I'm making sure to take a good amount of Vitamins so that all my blood levels are good going into surgery in case they drop in the first few weeks due to not getting enough nutrition in while I'm learning a new way of eating. I also want to make sure I am really hydrated in case I fall down on getting enough water the first few weeks too. -
That is amazing! Congratulations!
