Hey everyone! So I am 3 months into my journey of the 6 month supervised weight checks. I have had pcos much longer but only diagnosed in March of 2014 and have been on Metformin and BC since then but the last time I had blood work done in March 2016, my testosterone levels were higher than a "normal" PCOS person so my pcp sent me to an endocrinologist. I just saw the endo on Thursday and she said she is not so much concerned with the testosterone levels as she is with the color of the stretch marks on my stomach and the top of my arm by my armpit. She is thinking possible Cushing's and I am now waiting to go in for bloodwork this morning after having a dexamethasone(sp) pill and then next week I have to collect my urine for 24 hours and do another blood test. Not only am I scared of the treatments for Cushing's depending on the cause of it, but I'm also worried about it affecting my August or September GBS. She said if the bloodwork comes back ok, then she will continue treatment for PCOS. I guess I'm just needing input on anyone who has gone through this or anyone who was diagnosed with Cushing's and still had the surgery? Sorry for such a long and depressing first post, my nerves are just getting the best of me and you all are a wealth of knowledge Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

One more update, it a call from the endo saying that the test came back normal and that I don't have Cushing's! I seriously cried, I was so happy. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I just spoke with my endo and surgeon about this and because Vitamins, nutrients, birth control, etc. won't be absorbed as well as before, they prefer you have another form of BC. I think I'm doing the iud as well. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Now, if it isn't one thing, it's another and I'm starting to truly believe Murphy's law. Went for my cardio clearance yesterday and the ekg is abnormal. I have to go back two days in a row for stress tests and hope that they will clear me. This process is really really getting me to my wits end. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I 100% agree. It's the wait that kills me lol. I may do just that later on, I have a bottle of wine screaming my name. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Thank you! I'm sooooo hoping they are. It may be about 3 weeks before I know because I have to do the urine test 5-7 days after this pill/blood work test. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

@ I have looked into it and what I'm finding is that because Cushing's is an over production of cortisol, it causes fat deposits and leads to obesity so even with the surgery, it can work against it. The main reasons for Cushing's is a most likely benign tumor on the pituitary, high use of steroids like prednisone, etc. I don't take any steroidal medications. I was also on spiro for 1.5 years but I requested to be taken off of it because it wasn't helping. The high testosterone level was while I was on it and it didn't help with the hair growth. When I see the endo again, I will ask if wls can still help with it even if I would need to have another surgery to help Cushing's if I have it. When I asked her what the treatment was, she said it's complicated because there are multiple reasons as to why someone has it so she said we will wait until that point. 6 or 7 months medically supervised diet?!
Donna415 replied to lasmith0802's topic in Insurance & Financing
Sometimes it can take longer and all policies are different but I know with bcbs WV and bcbs pa, it's 6 consecutive monthly visits within 2 years prior to surgery. I cross my fingers and toes for you that it's a short time to approve!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

6 or 7 months medically supervised diet?!
Donna415 replied to lasmith0802's topic in Insurance & Financing
Working for an insurance company helps me a little with knowing medical policies and whatnot but we can only follow what the medical policy states. The doctor may be saying that insurance companies like to see 7 visits but have you spoken with your ins to find out? I have and work for Highmark bcbs, ours states 6 consecutive monthly visits with at least 3 weeks between each visit. When I went to my surgeon, he wanted to consider that as my first weight check but since my surgeon is 1.5 hours away, he agreed to let me do then checks with my pcp who I went to see the next week. I do know that authorizations can take as little as a day to as long as a monthly depending on if something is missing when the original authorization is submitted but it is not something that a customer service agent can control. Good luck and I hope our months go by quickly! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
What are/were you looking forward to being able to do post-surgery?
Donna415 replied to Maloneymommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This past month, my fiancé, best friend, and I went to the Ohio state spring game. Every time we go, it's always at least a 2 mile walk just to the stadium from the car. With no hills, I was almost in tears because of how bad my legs hurt so my goal is to be able to spend all day walking around and enjoying myself rather than asking everyone to stop and wait for 10 minutes while I muster up the energy to walk another 50 yards. That's awesome to hear! Thank you. I have dr Marr and cannot wait to finally have the surgery. Not for a few more mi this though. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I will be lucky if mine is in September. I just had my first of six weight checks on March 30th, next one scheduled for April 25th (I think). It does seem like it will go quickly though. I meet again with my surgeon, dietician, and psychologist in May so I'm hoping it moves fast but to us, I know it seems like forever. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Yup. I'm in the same boat. I'm thisclose to having my deductible met. *crosses fingers for both of us* Agreed! Fingers crossed Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Me too. My deductible should be met by the time I'm ready for surgery and I have no co pay so nothing up front would be awesome! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
