  1. So, I am currently doing the preop stages and set to have surgery in june. My surgeon has me on the supervised preop diet which includes liquid phases and supplementing with Protein drinks. My nut told me as long as the protien has less than 200 calories and more than 20 grams of protien it's ok to use. I've been using the premixed Premier Protein every once in a while but if I'm drinking 3 a day at 7$ for a 4 pack it gets pretty pricey so I got a powder one scoop is 30 g of protien and 170 calories w/ 10 Oz of Water. It's cheaper, comes in bulk, and tastes ok. But now I'm having doubts about it. I had a friend over the other day and they saw it and asked "isn't that the kind of protien that makes you gain weight?" Now theyve got me worried. Is there a difference? Or is it just how you use it? I've been losing but now I'm worried I'm not losing as much as I could have been. The protien is called six star if anyone wants to look it up. Protien powder?

Ok my question is is there a difference in protien powder that makes u gain weight to gain muscle and protien to lose weight or is it all about how you use it? Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

  5. I have to have my mind made up in a few weeks and I'm still so unsure if I want to have bypass or sleeve. My surgeon says I'm a good candidate for either and left the final decision to me. He initially suggested sleeve bc it's less risky and less invasive. I started this thinking I wanted bypass then was talked to about the sleeve and now I don't know. I'm 25, have a very high bmi, and a goal to lose 250 lbs. I have mild sleep apnea, and PCOS and had my Gaul bladder removed in 2011. Any advise, opinion, or success or even failure story would help! Thanks! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

  7. Could the additional 20-50 be just exta skin? I'm assuming I'll have to have about 20 lbs of skin removed at least Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App
  8. I may look into ds more if I don't get results w/ sleeve or bypass I saw on another post you've lost about 300lbs? That's fantastic! Way to go!! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App
  9. I have acid reflux sometimes like maybe once a month. But also could it be that there's less of a revision rating bc there's nothing really to revise to? Except the duo switch but I hear that has alot of complications and you basically have horrible diarrhea for the rest of your life so not many ppl want to revise to that Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

  11. Thanks, but I kind of want the added restrictions and giving up things forever that way I'm not as tempe in the future to have them. I'm terrified of regaining and not maintaining and eating foods that I shouldn't just because I can. So if I can't I feel like that's good for me. Also I like that I have the option of revision but I'd prefer to only have one surgery Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App
  12. I'm having surgery in June and still can't decide between bypass and sleeve. I'm leaning slightly more towards bypass but I know sleeve is less invasive and less risky. A little about me I'm 24 and have about 250lbs to lose in realitively good health, I have pcos and a mild case of sleep apnea. Not on any medications currently. Loosing weight is incredibly hard for me I was on the clear liquid diet for 2 weeks and only lost 1 lb.... Any advice or opinion is greatly appreciated. Thanks. 13. I'm currently at my second to last appointment of pre op visits before I can submit to insurance and schedule a surgery date. Today I am daow 14.5 lbs in just 4 weeks that is a personal best for me. It's always been incredibly hard for me to loose weight and even harder to keep it off. I'm excited after this apointment I know that if I can do this pre surgery I can only imagine the success I'll have post surgery. I'm determined to keep this up for the rest of my life and looking forward to the new life ahead! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App
  14. Thank you both! That that's also fantastic news for the both of you! I know I'm like counting down the seconds and I still have a month to go so I can only imagine the excitement Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

    Health insurance

I have BCBS of Illinois too but I don't have 3 months of supervised weight loss? Strange Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App It might not be required for my insurance and just a requirement of my surgeon? They have a huge program and think it's necessary for ppl to be successful to complete the program plus they don't want to risk insurance denying it so they come at them with all kinds of documentation lol Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

  19. See I'm ok with out bday cake or sweets in general and actually I kinda want the dumping syndrome so that if I ever do get that random urge for sweets I can't eat them. I want to give up bad foods for life not just for a few months then tell myself it's ok every once in awhile then that turns into the exact same eating habits I'm currently trying to break then I've gained weight and back where I started. I think the bypass will give me a better chance to keep away from the wrong foods longer but everyone I talk to says sleeve is the way to go bc it's less risky and less invasive. I don't want to make the decision to have the sleeve just bc I'm scared of the risks of bypass if bypass would be a better option for me. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App
  20. My surgeon recommended sleeve right off the bat without asking me any questions but only bc I think his practice is trying to do away with bypass altogether he said it was my decision tho and than proceeded to sell me like sleeve was a Mercedes saying they're the same thing except less invasive and less risky and less long term complications than bypass he also said that the weightloss rate is slightly higher with bypass but could have the same outcome with sleeve. My eating habits have of course improved during preop but before I struggled with over eating and poor food choices. I have a weakness for Mexican food and still find my self craving it daily and sometimes giving into it. Not a big sweet eater or a snacker. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

  24. Hey there, seems like we have alot in common. I'm also 24 and going through the pre op stages currently hoping to have a surgery date scheduled for june. Every night before bed I hit YouTube and wach all sorts of Wls videos and then read this forum. Most of the videos I've seen however were success stories it's rare I come across a horror story. So my surgeon has me on liquid diets during my preop stages. I have a scheduled apointment with them once a month between those appointments I'm supposed to do 2 weeks of the liquid diet 2 weeks high Protein no carb diet. My fist try with liquids failed miserably. I was so hungry physically and mentally all the time that I turned to bad food and would scarf it down like never before. I have a weakness for Mexican food... I'm currently going through my second round with liquids and much more successful although still really hard. I notice while doing all liquid verses when I can eat solid food my cravings for bad food is intensified by a million and my will power to say no to those cravings is much weaker than when I'm not basically starving myself. But I know I'll get through it and make it to my surgery date and things will become easier as I break old habits and make new ones. I'm happy to hear things are going so well for you post op I hope to have similar results! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App
  25. I'm going through preop with dr. Podkemeni here in arizona. So far the program, staff, and surgeons all seem amazing. I'm very nervous but also very excited to be making this life change. I'm only 24 but have been obese my whole life and most recently labeled as super morbidly obese. I know it's time for a change I just hope I can do it and stick to it for life!
