  1. oh crap! I just had my pre-op appointment with the surgeon this morning and found out even though the insurance company told me my authorization was approved it's not....it is still under review!!! What was approved was the hernia repair (it auto approves).....The sleeve procedure is still under review!.....I meet all the requirements so it should be approved without any issues but it still makes me nervous waiting!!! ekkkkkk....The doc gave me all my scripts today and included one special request I had for Valium.....The insurance company better hurry up and do their thing otherwise all my Valiums will be gone...hahaha
  2. I think if surgery is tomorrow, today is not the day to think about changing to a new nutritionist......since what your concerned with is the "lifetime" diet, my advice is to focus now on your current pre-op and early post op requirements and if after all that, you're still not happy with this nutritionist by all means find a new one. Just my two cents!

    Scared out of my mind

My surgery is Monday the 16th and so far not freaking out.....and don't think I will, but we shall see. As my surgery date gets closer I'm trying to stay focused on more of the "distant" future rather than what's happening in a day or two or how I'll feel a few days after surgery.............I'm thinking about and imagining how skinny I may be 3 or 4 months post op!!....Try it, it may help you. You'll do great!!!
  4. Well you could have another Protein shake to increase your calories.....it's hard to say without knowing the details of your plan.............but protein is probably where most of your calories are coming from.

    Tomorrow is the day!

    Congrats to both of you!
  6. I wasn't given a calorie quota......my diet isn't all liquid mine is two small low carb meals and one Protein shake.....with all that I was still under 800 calories, but nothing in my literature says there is a calorie goal to work towards. What does yours say?
  7. I bought some small plates and bowls and looked all over the place and finally found some cocktail forks and spoons at Bed Bath and Beyond.....I like them better than baby utensils because the handles are longer.. I've also got Protein powder............and that's about it......I think...hahaha
  8. Sorry meant to quote this response It would be great if there was a thread about this. I'm very confused by my insurer's requirements too. Probably the best thing to do would be to call your insurance company and ask them to direct you to their complete policy about weight loss surgery. My insurance company mailed it out to me and it completely spells out the requirements and the weight amount (and in my case, the required amount to lose prior to surgery).
  9. It would be great if there was a thread about this. I'm very confused by my insurer's requirements too. Yes this is the perfect suggestion. In order to be confident that you have the right information you need to call and get the information from your insurance company and have them mail the medical policy to you so you have it in writing......I retired from BCBS of Florida and I can tell you, just because you talk to someone else that also has BCBS of Florida, unless that person has the exact same plan as you, their requirements will likely be different.....BCBS alone has hundreds of different plans.......Just call customer service and ask them for a copy of the bariatric medical policy that governs your specific plan. Checking the bulletins is also a good idea but it's still better to call and ask for the policy that governs your specific plan......the bulletin will generally cover the "individual" plans the insurance company sells.......if you are covered under a Group policy that is self-insured the bulletin may not pertain to your policy. Sorry quoted the wrong response....correct one is below.
  10. Just think! Only two more Mondays to go!! I go for my pre-op appointment with my surgeon and pre-registration/testing at the hospital tomorrow.
  11. @@vongphillips I actually did Saturday and Sunday on all liquids just to kick things off......the good news is I lost 5 lbs......but today I'm doing my prescribed diet. Good luck to you!
  12. @@vongphillips Sounds like a good plan! Good luck with the all liquids! I started my two week diet today too but mine is one Protein shake and two small low carb meals per day.....so I at least get to have some food! Yay me!!!
  13. Does anyone know if you should pack the scoop or not????
  14. Although I already have my surgery date of 5/16 my authorization approval was still hanging over my head.....but I just called Florida Blue and they approved it!.......only took 3 business days!!!
  15. If all else fails READ THE DIRECTIONS!!! hahaha....So in reading the directions it says, one scoop/27g.......So for the brand I'm using, unjury.....an UNPACKED scoop weighs 27 grams. ...........I know I know, I should have other things to worry about! LOL

    Shorter than I thought!

I actually grew a half inch when I had my 3 level cervical fusion in 2009......I kept that half inch for several years but now I'm back to 5'5"
  17. Good morning May 16th sleevers.....Are we all ready to start our 2 week diets this morning? I was on liquids for the last two days and lost 5 lbs. My two week diet is not all liquid it's one Protein drink and two small low carb meal per day.....I just did the two days of liquids to sort of kick me off to a good start. It wasn't too bad......but then again it was only two days! We can do this!!! I found a cool app where you can track all your food and Water and all you have to do is scan the bar code on stuff....it's called Baritastic. You can track everything, food water, weight, exercise.....and it has a timer for eating and drinking for post surgery. Check it out if you haven't already. It's free!!!
  18. Right, mine didn't require any supervised period, that's why I was able to do it in just over 2 months.
  19. My surgery is on Thursday so I was going to take off the next week. I have plenty of time available to take but I would rather take time for something fun. Same here! I can always work from my recliner....I will have to be in pretty bad shape to not be able to work!.....I'll save as much of my time as possible for fun stuff!!.

Day 8 of pre op liquids

I am by no means condoning cheating...........and the best approach is to stick to your plan's diet............but.......if you have to cheat don't do it with corn or anything with any carbs....chicken or something like that wouldn't be the worst choice.............. But you can do this there's just a few more days, you got this!!
  21. So how long has it taken everyone to get to this point??.......I think a good indicator to use would be the initial seminar (I'm pretty sure everyone has to do that??) My seminar was March 8th, so for me just a little over 2 months.....I know that's not as long as a lot of folks but it still feels like forever to me!
  22. Hi you're welcome to join our group....and you'll get to see all of our experiences before yours....... I work from home as well! Here's my plan. My surgery will be on a Monday I have scheduled that week off and plan on working again the following Monday......And if I'm one of the ones who feels great after surgery I may work as early as Thursday....just going to play that part by ear.

    Protein shakes

I got a bunch of different single serve flavors of Quest and so far I haven't found any I don't like....the Cookies and creme was really good!!! I also have unjury and they are good too!
  24. I work from home, my husband already knows, so I only have to worry about my dog.....and he's very clever and will probably figure it out soon...hahaha I've told a couple of folks I work with, but since I don't see any of them face to face most of them think I'm just having hernia repair surgery on 5/16, and I'll be on PTO for that week.
  25. I actually do have a hiatal hernia. They have said they may or may not repair it, depending on what they see when they get in there. I really hope they do fix it, because I have GERD really badly and I'd love to get off of that med. That's my plan, make it all about the hernia (to explain being out for surgery). But then, there is the rapid and ongoing significant weight loss following right after surgery, and the "weird eating". Any success stories of deflecting the attention and comments? Weird eating .............because your hernia is still healing......weight loss, well because you're being forced to eat "weird" .....blah blah blah..............you're eating less and working out more.....and it'll be the truth!
