    Question about insurance

approval is done based on your insurance company's requirements......do you know what the requirements are, and do you meet the requirements? As long as you meet all the requirements you should be good. If you don't know the requirements you should be able to google your plan's requirements.....or better yet call them and ask them to send you the policy in writing. As far as the timing that's another question for your insurance company.....but if you're talking days, not months, you should be good with that.
  2. I know exactly how you feel, although mine was not quite that long......my surgeons office submitted two procedures for approval....the hiatal hernia repair, and the sleeve......The hernia repair auto approves they don't even review anything regarding that....and then it was 6 days before they finally reviewed and approved the sleeve......the wait is very nerve wracking!!! Good luck!!!
  3. So 10 days to go!!! How's everyone doing? It's funny, it seems like the weight is just falling off of me during my pre op....I've already lost 8 pounds!!! haha I know as soon as I put anything in my mouth with any carbs in it, it would come right back.....Prior to starting I had a lot of swelling and it is mostly gone. With carbs I'd start retaining all that Fluid again. My feet and ankles looked like elephant legs when I started, and now I can see my ankle bone a little. My pre-op diet is basically the Atkins induction phase without all the extra fat.....just meat, Eggbeaters, and non-starchy veggies......pretty easy!

    Pain in stomach

You should call your doctor to make sure it's nothing serious.
  5. I've proven many many times that I can lose weight......the sleeve is not just to help with the initial weight coming off but also to help you control portion sizes that will help to maintain later and keep it off......,it's the yo-yo I'm trying to fix!

Kmorri - you going to Riverside, right? Make sure you ask about how late you can drink water and drink as long as you can. The "leak" test isn't done sometimes as fast as you think and you will be sooo thirsty. Good luck, Dr. Uchal is great!

  8. I'm not sure the reason for your urgent weight loss need but in that short of a period I'd say do an all liquid diet just like the pre-op diet....
  9. Luckily my insurance didn't have a requirement for a supervised diet....so I got through my process in 2 months. Basically it all depends on your insurance requirements as to how long the process takes.....Good luck to you!!!
  10. I'm sure it will go fine. Just try to relax. Do you know if they have submitted your authorization request to your insurance company yet? If they have I'm sure they will be setting a surgery date for you. Sometimes it takes a couple of weeks for you to actually get the letter from the insurance company so maybe it's already happened! Your appointment is tomorrow so no need to call the insurance company to try to find out....I say just wait until your appointment. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
  11. My first consultation with the surgeon was on March 15th and my surgery is now scheduled for May 16th!!

  13. Wow! so am I.....well I'm in Middleburg. My surgery will be at St Vincent's in Riverside. My surgeon is Dr. Uchal. Where is your surgery going to be? Small world!!! That's amazing! 3 of my coworkers had surgery with Dr. Uchal and they had a great experience. I ended up going with a different surgeon because I prefer Baptist Hospital. But that's not so very far from SVMC! BTW, I was born at St. Vincent's Riverside. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Me too! I was born at St. V's!!!! But that was a loooooooooooong time ago! hahaha Let's just say the nuns still wore habits when I was born! hahaha

    Got surgert date!

Congrats!!! I've seen several posts from folks not having to do the pre-op diet. Consider yourself one of the lucky ones! I'm currently on my 2 week diet but it's an easy one....I can have two low carb meals a day and one Protein shake. My surgery is 5/16!!!
  15. Wow! so am I.....well I'm in Middleburg. My surgery will be at St Vincent's in Riverside. My surgeon is Dr. Uchal. Where is your surgery going to be? Small world!!!
  16. @@kmorri, I am so sorry!! When will you know you're approved? I think that there is a time requirement that the insurance company must come back with an answer, one way or the other. For me, it was 15 business days from the time the surgeon submitted my paperwork. Hang in there, girl! Good news!!! the official approval came through! talk about nerve wracking!!! Can we say relief?
  17. What part of Florida are you in? I'm in North Floridia, right outside of Jacksonville in Middleburg

How do I ask my doctor?

Great plan and good job looking for your own center.....most centers have weekly seminars for new patients to attend. Good luck and keep up all updated on your progress!
  19. My pre-op diet has been going great! But it's not all liquid. It basically how I've dieted for many years. Just no bread or starches.....with the exception of replacing one meal with a Protein shake. I'm certainly loosing weight! I've already lost a total of 13.4 pounds, but I started by doing all liquids on Saturday and Sunday and changed over to my prescribed diet on Monday.
  20. Have you met with him at all during the process?......I had an initial consult with him when I first started where we talked about what surgery was best for me, ....just general stuff. He asked about my eating habits. Then after I finished all my other stuff (psych vist, NUT visit, pre-op tests, like chest x-ray and swallow test)....and everything was submitted to my insurance I met with him one last time.....this was a very quick visit. He asked if I was excited about surgery and that was about it.....my surgery date was set at this visit.
  21. @@hamoudi if it's the surgeon's office that's on vacation try your PCP's office.....or even the nurses station at the hospital where you were.....you need medical advice no Internet forum advice. I hope you feel better soon!
  22. So, my surgery is scheduled for May 16th. I'm supposed to start my 2 week diet on Monday the 2nd. My diet sounds like a really easy one compared those who have an all liquid diet.....My diet is one Protein drink and two small very low carb meals (lean meat and non starchy veggie) and of course the normal sugar free Popsicles and Jello............So I was thinking just to kick myself off to a good start I would do two days (today and tomorrow) all liquids..... and then Monday switch to my plan's diet. I can't really say why I want to do this and maybe that's the "stupid" part.....but what does everyone think. Am I just overly excited to get started, or do you think two days of all liquids will make me appreciate my real 2 week diet even more and make it easier for me to stick to??? Thoughts? Thanks, Kathy
  23. @@Maggie Journey I'm expecting something in the next couple of days.....no one seems to be worried about it except me....like I said all the requirements are met. It's just being told yesterday that it was approved and then today finding out that was just for the hernia repair ......it just makes me nervous for it to be up in the air.......Thanks for you concern.....hopefully tomorrow!!
  24. I'm sorry you're being delayed, but glad they are taking good care of you. Your time will come, and will be done safely!
