    Vsg 4day post op

Did your doctor prescribe a PPI? Mine prescribed 40mg Omeprozole. He wants me to take if for 3 months post op. I haven't had any issues. If you're didn't prescribe something you may want to call them and see if they will call something in for you. Reflux will have a negative impact on your recovery

    Fluid intake

Unfortunately there really isn't a trick to it......you really just have to force yourself to drink constantly.......focus first on fluids. You can get by for several days without getting enough Protein, but you must get in all your fluids, otherwise you could get really sick..........for me it was much easier when I focused only on liquids and got that up to where it needed to be and then started working on protein...I like using the MIO drops in my Water. Good luck to you. It gets better!!!
  3. I had VSG with hiatal hernia repair.....surgery was on a Monday and I was working again the following Monday....but I work from home so I have a pretty easy time of it..............If I had a regular job I would have wanted one more week.

"Restriction" refers to the feeling of fullness after a few bites of food.
  5. I retired from BCBS after 29 years and currently work for UHC. Nurse case managers are there to help you navigate all your requirements and ensure you know what to expect...and get all the proper follow-up care......They can answer all the questions you have about the pre and post op diets......I know you hear people say all the time that insurance companies are just trying to find reasons to not pay claims...............but it just isn't true. Now they do absolutely want to reduce the costs, but how they do that is by trying to ensure patients are educated and providing them with information that will help them make educated and informed decisions.....and hopefully prevent unnecessary cost due to a patients not being properly educated. I would absolutely take them up on the offer.

Once you're able to have pureed the Progresso Lite soups are great......I would open a can run it through the blender and put the rest in an ice tray and freeze it.....put the cubes in a freezer bag to use later......then once you're past needing pureed food the cubes are great to use for seasoning when baking chicken...
  7. I did know about those things before my surgery but it was because of my own research not because my doctor or NUT told me.........It is something that needs to be clearly explained as part of the process.

I just went back and reread your post.....did you have yogurt and cream of wheat at the same time?.....I assumed you meant two different meals....I can just barely get a whole yogurt down.....I don't eat things like cream of wheat because I'm staying away from carbs while I'm in the weight loss phase.

It sounds like you're doing great......As long as you're in the full liquid stage you're not going to feel too much restriction....I can eat a whole yogurt as well and that's normal.......Once you move to soft foods things like ground meats you'll feel the restriction.....once you start that you'll want to start measuring your food and staying between a quarter to a half a cup of food at a time....Things like yogurt, pureed Soups and Protein drinks go down a lot easier because they don't have to sit in your stomach in order to be digested.... Keep doing what you're doing and asking whatever questions you have.
  10. It's probably just swelling. did you also have a hernia repair? I had a hernia repair and everything felt like it got stuck in my chest area for a few seconds for about the first two weeks...........now it all seems back to normal. I can eat all foods now and the only difference is I can only eat tiny amounts..........which is GREAT! it's exactly what I wanted and needed! Good luck to you.
  11. The one weird thing I no longer like after surgery is sugar free popsicles ......I loved them for years! Ate them every evening....now not so much! But another weird thing I've been craving since surgery is Mexican food! Before surgery Mexican food was okay but was not my favorite......I made some healthy burritos using ground chicken, fat free re-fried Beans and low carb tortillas for dinner last night and it was fantastic!!
  12. I think everyone is different with healing times. For me once I got home from the hospital I was only taking over the counter pain meds......I still had pain when I'd first stand up or move the wrong way ......but at about 2 weeks out I'd say it was all a lot better. I had more trouble with just sort of feeling lousy, sort of weak and sickly feeling.....and that didn't get better until I was able to start eating real food..........Once I started the pureed stage I started quickly feeling my normal self again. Just hang in there and make sure you keep moving. the more you walk the faster your will heal!!!
  13. I'm so happy it is helping you!!! I know it helped me. It will get better each day. I wish you the best. Please continue to post and ask any questions you have.
  14. I hope everyone has a wonderful Father's Day weekend. I'm about to go spend some time with the most amazing man in the world, my dad! He will be 87 years young next month. I hope everyone is able to spend some time with someone they love this weekend.

I think so too. I actually take a picnic lunch of his favorite (a wurst and sauerkraut and a boiled potato_). I sit there with a family photo album and let the memories flow. Good quiet time.

  15. You want it to be be pretty tight......but I know for me it felt better on my lower abdomen rather than higher on my waist.....Good luck to you and let us know if it helps when your daughter finds you one.

    Insurance Approval Jitters

I hope it goes well for you.......Hypertension is sometimes a tough one. I've heard that sometimes the insurance company requires that to control it you have to be on 2 or more medications...........But I'm sure the team you're working with is used to working with them so hopefully all will go fine. Let us know once to hear back.

    Looking for advice

I agree with what other's have said......I would not consider dictating the tools my surgeon uses.....Here's some information you may find helpful....You need to have trust in your surgeon.. http://www.wlshelp.com/news/sleeve-gastrectomy-does-size-matter/
  18. Do you have an abdominal binder?.....the kind they give women after c-sections?.....If you don't have one, get yourself one. You can get them at some drug stores, Babies R Us, or order online at Amazon...........It will help! I know it hurts, but it's important to keep walking. I hope you feel better soon!

    Nervous and scared

Try to relax! You've come a long way and you're almost finally at the finish line (or you could look at it as the starting line).....Try to stay busy......I just had surgery on 5/16 and the weekend before my surgery I got an adult coloring book and did some coloring over the weekend before my surgery on that Monday.....I think it really helped. These last few days are the worst......but just hang in there. It's totally worth it!!!

    Regret before surgery

I think what you are feeling is very normal.....But I can say this as someone who recently had surgery...I'm about 4.5 weeks post op............This is the BEST thing I've ever done for myself!! it is exactly what I needed! I actually think most of us that get to this point are pretty close to being expert dieters....I knew what I should eat....I ate mostly healthy, but my problem was I ate way way too much!!! I could actually lose weight when I set my mind to it. But I always would start falling back to my old habits and (portion sizes) and end up gaining it all back plus some.....This tool is absolutely amazing! I love my little tiny plates of food that I can never finish...haha......So far I'm loving it!
  21. you've gotten good advice from others.......also don't worry so much about "stocking up"......just make sure you have plenty of whatever you plan to drink....water, sugar-free and carbonation free drinks.....find a Protein drink you like, but don't buy too much because your taste will most likely change after surgery.......a couple of cans of creamed Soups and maybe some progresso light soups that you can puree. ......remember as soon as you're no longer taking pain meds you can drive and go to the store and get whatever you want.....for me I didn't take any pain med once I was home from the hospital...but everyone is different.....My point is you really don't need to stock pile anything....especially protein drinks/powders......I made that mistake and I now have enough Protein powder to start my own protein powder store! hahah It all does seem to be quite overwhelming at first but it's really not too bad once you're in the middle of it.....Good luck to you and keep us informed on how you're doing.

    Mashed potatoes

I'm about 4.5 weeks out and haven't had mashed potatoes......I plan on staying away from starches while I'm in the weight loss phase.......My guess would be you may have eaten a little too much.....potatoes tend to expand after you eat them so I bet that's what happened. In the future when eating them I'd suggest eating a little less than you would normally, making sure to leave room for the expanding...I actually like mashed cauliflower and have it as a replacement for mashed potatoes. Good luck to you and I hope you're feeling better.

    URGENT--advice needed

I'm glad you are focusing on you and getting better and you have the right support in place to help you get better. I weigh a lot just out of morbid curiosity. However, I only count it as official once a week. this has allowed me to see that it is normal for my body to go up and down through the week but an overall trend downward. it is helping me to make peace with this process.
