  1. I don't know the exact time but I know it takes at least 6 weeks for everything to heal.....From what I've seen most leaks happen early on.....like within the first two weeks. But putting all that aside, if I were you and I was worried about this I would simply call my surgeon's office and ask them. I'm sure they'll be happy to put your mind at ease. Congrats on your recent surgery! Keep up the good work!
  2. I don't think there is a "norm"....it all depends on what works for you. If weighing everyday is stressful to you then don't do it. For me I have to weigh everyday. It keeps me on track. I don't let myself get discouraged with little fluctuations as I've done this for so long I have a good idea of how my body works.............in the past I've learned when I'm gaining weight I'm not weighing myself daily....So my plan is to keep this up. Do what works for you!

    No weight loss yet

Right what @@missblonde20 said! there's probably 100's of posts about this, if not 1000's. What you're experiencing is very very normal. Give your body time to heal and get ride of all the extra Fluid that was pumped into you during your hospital stay.....just keep following you plan. This is not the time to worry about weight loss but rather focus on healing. Good luck to you!
  4. Yay! milestone hit.....as of this morning I'm down 70.4 pounds!!!

See? That's what you get for not buying the house next door. :) Be safe, my friend.

  6. Maybe if you ask your question in the bypass forum or the Mexico forum (this is the gastric sleeve forum) someone with some experience will be able to answer your questions....but if I were you I'd email the center back and ask specifically how much weight you need to lose.......since it's their requirement only they can give you the correct information. Good luck!!

I have a date with the surgeon!

Congrats!! You're own your way! The first appointment with the surgeon was no biggie for me.....he asked a lot of questions about my eating habits, past diets and general medical history type questions. He did a physical exam and then asked me which surgery I was thinking about. I told him the sleeve and he agreed....we discussed for a few minutes why we both felt it was the best choice for me, and that was about it......I then met with the surgery coordinator who scheduled all the required appointments for me...(phych eval, NUT appointment, and a bariatric education class, chest x-ray, and swallow test). Once all that was done I saw the surgeon one last time and at that appointment the surgery was canceled.....My process when faster than most people. Mine took about 2 months. Congrats again!!!!

    SURGERY DONE

You did it!! Sounds like you're doing great. Keep it up.
  9. There is no standard. This is a question you need to ask your surgeon. Some don't require any weight loss....other's do. some insurances require a loss and others don't......so you really need to ask your surgeon's office. Good luck to you!!
  10. Yes I know exactly what you mean! Just stay focused and keep your eye on the prize!! Good luck to you!
  11. Hang in there! What you're feeling now is normal and I think most of us have been where you are.....I can tell you for me, this has been the best decision I've ever made! I haven't had any issues and feel completely normal I just eat less....My surgery was on May 16th.

    Fluids

Yes I counted all Fluid towards my fluid intake....water, Protein shakes, broth, Jello....etc. You can always ask your NUT. Some of them say to not combine them, but some of them do....Mine was one that said it was fine to include Protein Shakes, but sometimes you just need to do what you think is right.

Did UHC Appeals work for you?

@@casenior Good for you. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Is your BMI over 35 with the new comorbidies?
  14. I stick to high Protein for the most part: eggs, tuna, salmon, Greek yogurt, and some veggies. On a not so good say I might add some rice or Pasta. I also have a drink from time to time. How bad do u think that affects weight loss? Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App I'm not sure because like I said everyone is different, but for me if I added any starches like the rice and pasta you mentioned my weight loss would stop completely.....and I don't drink so I can't really say other than the drink is just empty calories. You know yourself better than anyone so do what works best for you. Good luck.
  15. @@asweet_sleeve When you say your eating habits are "ok" what exactly do you mean? What are you eating? What does a typical day look like for you? I've always heard that weight loss is 90% diet and about 10% exercise.....So first make sure your diet is where it needs to be. Everyone is different but what works for me is staying very low carb. I keep my carbs below 20 grams a day. I have also heard that folks with revision surgery lose slower.....but I do think we have control over our own weight loss and can certainly help things along. Good luck to you.
  16. It was true for me. It was inserted while I was asleep and removed the next morning no pain or problems with it. My surgery was 5/16/16.

Did UHC Appeals work for you?

@@casenior Ok that may be tough to get approved. Perhaps using all the documentation you had for getting the lap band approved will help. In addition, you may want to check to see if your surgeon can do a "peer to peer" review. That's where your surgeon can argue your case with a physician/medical director on staff with the insurance company. Lots of times those go well, but your physician would have to request it. I hope it works out for you. Keep me informed on how it goes. Good luck!!

Did UHC Appeals work for you?

I wasn't denied but I work in insurance. You need to focus on why they denied you and ensure you provide the information that shows you meet all the requirements.....You should have gotten a letter that states the specific reason/s. So whatever the reason they denied you work on getting together the documentation that shows they shouldn't have. Good luck!

    BCBS requirements

I retired from BCBS of Floridia back in September and it not only varies by state it varies by the individual plans....your best bet is to call customer service number on your card and ask them about the coverage criteria for bariatric surgery. Also ask them to mail you a copy.

    My journey

So you and I have the same starting weight. My surgery was 5/16/16, so I'm a little less than a month behind you. I also had a hernia repair. Thankfully I didn't have the problems you did. Mine has been really easy....no nausea no issues with food and great weight loss. Good luck to you!

    So excited!

It is very exciting when you feel like things are finally moving. Good luck to you!
  22. Well actually my surgeon asked me how much I wanted to lose.....I told him and he agreed I should be able to.
  23. I am having a great week! The weight is just falling off! Since Sunday I've already lost 5.6 pounds this week and there's still 4 days to go. I had been averaging about a pound and half a week. Here's what I did. I've been eating low carb since my surgery on May 16th......but I decided to get serious and make sure to get into ketosis.....I bought test strips and everything....when I first tested I was in ketosis but not by much so I just buckled down and made sure to get it to the highest level.....and wow what a difference!!! Yay!!!
  24. It's a great day!!....I'm down 5.6 pounds since Sunday and I'm on cloud 9!!

  25. I had my surgery on May 16th.....try not to worry about the pain. Although everyone is different, once I came home I never needed to take any pain meds......Just go into it with a positive attitude. The day of surgery was a little tough, but that was mainly caused by the anesthesia and getting good and awake....Once I was awake it got much better
