  1. Yes, you have to be prepared for ppl like that and it doesn't matter of that obese or not some ppl just don't like the "tool" that our medical professionals are giving us to help wt loss.... plus when ppl don't understand the unknown or not educated about the surgery they will "unsupportive"... sorry that happened while your at a stressful time with hubby....

  2. Just curious how many times have you all seen your surgeon before your surgery. Ive only had one appointment with mine the initial consult. Next time i see him will be on the day...i kinda feel unprepared or something.

I will have about 3 total w/ my surgeon... the other times it's been the nurse practitioner who approved/schedule me...

Hey guys. I'm turning 40 tomorrow and having the surgery on May 18th. Been back and forth on this decision for over 5 years and finally pullin the trigger.

Would really appreciate a buddy or 2 or 3 to go through this with. Anyone up for supporting a 40 year old male nurse through the process. I'm also willing to help any who need it.

Well.....after gaining and losing large amounts for weight yet again, i finally hit my peak weight of 356! I couldn't go up a flight of stairs or walk through a parking lot without getting winded.

While i am able to loose weight, every time a go off whatever diet i am on, i ain back the weight, and more. I decided its time to equip myself with the proper tool for sustained weight loss so i am going ahead with the surgery.

Me too, but even after my MI/cabg I lost wt (cardiac rehab)... then slowly it creep back on even more... I wt more than both prev pregnancy!!! I knew if I didn't take this bull by horns then another MI would be waiting for me...being a nurse you know "both sides of the coin "... we make the best and worst pt. Lol

  5. Age: 29, I turn 30 on April 21

    Height: 5'4"

    Starting weight: 227lbs

    Current Weight: 209

I thought I'd share my experience in hopes that it helps somebody.

I had to be at the hospital at 6:30am. I didn't have to wait very long. The nurse came, weighed me, and told me to change into the gown. I wasn't allowed any clothing under the gown. I had a super sweet nurse from Great Britain. She injected my hand with lidocaine so the IV needle didn't hurt going in. Also, she had to give me a shot in the stomach. It didn't hurt. After that the anesthesiology guy came in. He explained everything. Next my doctor came in. We chatted. I was wheeled into surgery and was sleeved at 8:30am.

I woke up and was in some pain. I was told my hiatial hernia was fixed. Meds were given. It took me a bit to recover from sedation. The first time I got up to pee sucked! That was really difficult. I rested a bit more before I attempted to walk. Second time I got up was much better. Pain is manageable with the meds. I'm not allowed to drink anything yet until my swallow test tomorrow. Honestly, I'm not hungry. The only other thing is my voice sounds terrible from the throat tube. That is about it so far. We shall see what tomorrow brings.

Good luck everyone on your pre-op journey.

  6. I am in shock and so upset. I needed my pcp to fill out a form for medical necessity for the surgery. She also needed to fill in my weights, comorbidities and also a years worth of progress notes from my visits. I faxed the form from work to their office, with a letter stating they could notify me when completed and I would pick it up. Well......a coworker came in to me today with a fax for me. All of my personal health information, my weight for the past year AND the fact that I am in the process of qualifying for bariatric surgery was for anyone to read. They randomly faxed this information to my employer. I have no idea how they got the fax number. I could not believe it. My employer has no idea I am having surgery. Or at least HAD no idea. A good friend got the fax and brought it to me. Next thing I knew, another person gave me another copy that was faxed. Not sure what else is floating around.

I am hoping it wasn't read, and I did ask the coworker to keep it quiet. I blasted the doctors office. But I am truly so upset. I wanted to wait until I was approved before i told work. I just feel like any moment someone else is going to drop off my personal health information at my office door

    Just venting. Ugh!!!

I know.... I hate office community fax machines... mines wasn't about wls at the time but my chapter 13!!! info... so I either fax at stamples or write on fax sheet DO NOT REPLY BACK WITH A FAX...

  7. So, I recently did an online seminar for Vanderbilt University Medical Center Bariatric Surgery. I 4/16/16 for the first appointment. They said it should take about 4-5 hours, and you meet doctors, nutritionist, Gastro nurse, and insurance "specialist".

My concern for me - I think BCBS Fed requires 6 months supervised diet/WL program. I do not have a PCP - I'm 28 and never really been to the dr all that often. I did about 6 months of phentermine years ago and for the last 1 1/2 years, I've had a personal trainer 2-3 times per week.

What's going to happen? I have seen a dr in my new town a couple times for low blood sugar, but nothing really major.

    I'm about 365 BMI 51.

Any thoughts? IS there a way to get around the 6 month supervised thing?

Yeah BC/BS fed is what I have... and they made me do 90 day supervised with NUT... along with other specialists so it took me since Sept... my date for destiny is May 18...
