Bariactric Support groups are awesome... there is always someone to talk you off the figuratively speaking "cliff"... take care of yourself and new sleeve... then you can help someone else in a yr from now...

  2. Im a 22 year old female who just got gastric sleeve surgery and am 2 weeks out. I feel like I rushed into this decision and regret everything wishing I had tried harder to lose the weight. I am now scared to death that im going to die either from not being to eat barely or will die young after having so many complications from getting 70% of my stomach removed and losing all those important hormones. Im so afraid of dying and want to still have kids and a happy life. The research online scares me so much. Also i read gastric bypass leaves ur stomach in unlike the sleeve that removes it. Someone please help me. This is consuming me everyday of my life

You should discuss your anxiety with your M.D. so he can reassure you about having procedure.

I'm glad your are putting time in with your therapist before making a decision about your health. I don't see your post as critical of surgery at all. Doing your research has you on the right path.

Here is my thought's..Most of us have an eating disorder that got us to the point of surgery. You only get out of surgery what you are willing to put into it. I don't put much faith in statistics. Success is up to you.

I am almost 2 years out. I had a good nutritionist and aftercare/education. Learning to eat healthy was eye opening for me. I now look at food as fueling my body. ( A big change in my relationship with food) Cooking has become a norm. food is still wonderful and flavorful. Here is a link to my nutritionists recipes. She gives a great cooking class in my area. Hope it gives you an Idea of what meals will look like.

That learning phase..Yes I tracked and had to think about Protein etc.

Since I've been in maintenance, My food choices are now automatic because I'm so accustom to eating healthy. I do not think about every bite (Quick meal for me is chicken fajitas - the family has the tortillas. I don't ). I have times I indulge. Just means I put some extra time in the gym if the scale moves up.

My number one priority is getting out and living life.( not planning meals and gym time) So many things my body kept me from enjoying. I don't take my health for granted. I'm making up for lost time ;)

    Thx u for recipes

  5. Well, here is the thing...if you are "model" patient with no complications, you probably won't see much of your surgeon. And this is with any type of surgery. I have had MANY heart surgeries. I see my surgeon before surgery, and day of surgery. And then after I rarely see him. I see my "managing cardiologist". I do have my surgeons direct email, and direct number. Surgeons are surgeons, they rarely do follow ups in most fields unless there is a problem. With my heart, I have a whole team of cardiologist and cardiac surgeons. I see them ALL day of surgery, they all check me out, and see maybe one surgeon after in the hospital. My bariatric surgeon said he will see me after because I am "high risk" and he needs to monitor me, but usually I would just be followed by someone in his office. So don't take it personally or that he is not a good surgeon, but they have people that are much better at followup and can give you the time you need, and also the Drs, who do the follow up that is their job and what they do every day, so they re much better at the follow up then the actual surgeon. Just my two cents, and I have been having surgery since I was 5 months old. :D

Hi, I noticed that you've stated you have had multiple heart surgeries since childhood... may I ask did you have any complications with your bariactric surgery? I had open heart 2.5 yrs ago and wanted to know if scar tissue was an issue? That was a question I forgot to ask my surgeon since I seen him last to sign consent forms....

  6. I learned my lesson not to tell ppl when i had open heart surgery... everyone was very opinionate telling me how being a nurse I've should have known better to "eat healthier", I'm only telling those who are driving me to surgery (husband) who paying for surgery (insurance) and who is doing the surgery (M.D.)... thx-ful my job allows me to work from home at times...

  7. Also what helps foods tasty palatable is making sure your tongue is clean... we do this to our nursing home patients that have lost taste sensation due to meds /age/ strokes.. we clean their mouths and they say foods taste better and the get less nausea... I know you don't fit into any of those categories but it just sounds like your kinda desperate... sorry if offended...

  8. I had an inspired moment sat on the end of my Dr's bench 6 weeks ago. So sick of being ill and depleted of energy, I asked if I would be a candidate for WLS? (No idea where the thought came from!)

So it was a whirlwind the first few weeks, tests, appointments, diagnosis, talking, thinking, dreaming, wishing, dreading, worrying, etc etc etc....

Fast forward to today, collected my Bi-Pap machine and tonight starts my new sleepy me, yipeeeeeeee!

I've also started the food plan too, with drinking my quoted Water intake.

    I'm ready. Sooooo so ready.

    Hubby is on board. (Now)

    Kids now what to expect.

    Maybe surgery by mid July......

  9. If another person tells me I don't need to lose anymore weight... How can I still be almost 300 pounds and NOT look like I need to lose more weight?????????????? People and their perceptions.

"How much more weight are you going to lose???"

"You're going to disappear" (FAT chance of that happening)

"I don't think you need to lose anymore weight. You look great!"

Thanks for your concern. It's nice and all, but I'm not done.

    RANT OVER....

It's not up to you anymore, it's your body losing it... your body knows what hlty wt it should be...

  10. @@kaciii - No pain meds. Didn't need any. And no Constipation related pain... it's just... nothing but gas. I don't know.

@@animallover1247 - I took stool softeners earlier this week and they did nothing. I guess I'll some magnesium citrate or something. I find it odd that I'm not even having the urge for a BM. That's why I asked. I didn't want to put myself in a miserable situation with being backed up.

    Try miralax
