    Best Binder?

I'm in the market for an abdominal binder. When I walk, my belly jiggles which causes some discomfort and soreness. If I get a binder, I'll be able to walk more and feel better doing it. So what do you guys use?

    Sleeping position?

I was able to sleep on my side pretty early - day 3/4. But I couldn't sleep on my stomach until close the end of week 2. I did find that propping pillows under my stomach helped when I started sleeping on my side - that way I was on my side, but the pillows kept the belly from pulling down so much.

    What should I do?

Keep calling. Worst case scenario: if you're not comfortable with this doctor, you find a new one.
  4. Dinner's in the crockpot (for tonight and the weekend -- ha!), and it smells SO GOOD. Even though I'm not remotely hungry.

Weird, isn't it?--how you know how wonderful something smells and how delicious you know it would taste, but yet you're not hungry? As long as you can keep separating real hunger from head hunger you are going to do marvelously well on your WLS journey. :)

I'm working on it. I still overeat a bit - not to the point of throwing up, but to the point of being VERY uncomfortable for a bit. I've always been one to eat food because it tastes good, not because I'm hungry. Can't do that anymore! It's a hard habit to break, but each day is a bit easier.

Every day a little bit more successful. No one can ask for more. I found that I really had to slow my eating wwwaaaayyyy down to allow my head to catch up with my sleeve---or for the "I'm full" realization to reach my brain. You'll figure it out.

    Hungry

You can't stretch your sleeve. Or if you can, it's very VERY difficult. The surgery removed all of the stretchy part and left muscle.

    Farts and burps

It took me 4-5 days to fart. And when I did, it was awesome.

Can I increase my protein this way?

Never smell your Protein drinks. You won't get them down if you do!
  8. I've only lost 12 pounds since surgery (I'm 2 weeks post op today), but nearly 11 inches overall. This doesn't feel real!

Congratulations despite "only" 12 pounds in two weeks. You can either demand a recount or a refund.

Can I increase my protein this way?

My nutritionist suggested doing this if we were struggling. I've found that GENEPRO in broth is the best way for me to get my Protein in - 30g of protein in 4 oz of broth is definitely doable a few times per day.

    Is this normal?

My first non-liquid food is a mashed scrambled egg. Is it normal not to be able to eat one whole egg? I ate maybe a quarter of it (probably not even that much), and hit that moment of too much food.

    Is this normal?

I will say this - that quarter scrambled egg was the best tasting scrambled egg in all of the world.

    After surgery

For me, I wasn't hungry or interested in food at all the first week after surgery. When I went into my second week, I started feeling hungry - but I didn't actually want food. I'm pretty sure the hungry feeling is from acid, and not actual hunger. I am, however, starting to feel some head hunger. I want food in my mouth so badly! As far as pain goes, I was very lucky. I really only had pain under my largest incision. I stopped taking pain meds within a few days of coming home, and was able to take only Tylenol in the evenings.
  13. My mom's been with me for the past 3 weeks, and just went home. *sniff*

I kind of know how you feel. My sister was here with me after my surgery for a few days and she just left yesterday. :(

If loved ones never went home, how would we know how joyous it is when they're with us? Start planning the next visit... :)

    TOMORROW is my surgery!

    Good luck! And congratulations!
  15. Dreading my morning protein shake. I'm having a tough time getting protein supplements down this week.

Try some broth with nutritional yeast. It adds a more savory taste AND more protein. :)

@OutsideMatchInside - I do broth with Genepro, it's just not what I want first thing in the morning.

@Valentina - I keep hearing about nutritional yeast. I might try that!

    3. OutsideMatchInside

Just make sure you read the labels on the nutritional yeast, the carbs count almost matches the protein so you aren't really gaining much.

I still love to cook great tasting stuff, I just eat far less of it. I like Alton Brown's explanations of why things work when you are cooking.

  17. How do you chew pureed foods? Am I missing something?

I guess you are just supposed to practice...

    2. OKCPirate

      OKCPirate

No, I actually chewed before I swallowed just to make sure it was going to go down smooth. And there was something very satisfying about chewing pureed food after the liquid phase. ;-)

    Self Care

I will definitely take a mental health day from work if I'm struggling. Sometimes that's the best thing I can do for myself.
  19. I was pretty thoroughly prepped as far as food goes, but not so much about the actual experience of being post-op. But I'd done so much reading here and elsewhere that I was pretty confident that I knew what to expect - and I was right. There have been no surprises or anything.

    Does anyone own a Fitbit?

I have the Fitbit Charge HR, and I love it.
  21. Post-op day 8 and I'm feeling very down today. Nothing's wrong, I'm just so tired of liquids and not feeling normal.

Hormones! Very normal reaction! Get some rest and drink plenty of fluids (sugar free popsicles, sugar free jello, broth) and stay strong!!!

Patience, Friend. You just had major surgery. Sometimes it takes 6 months to fully feel "normal" Be kind to yourself.

    Getting frustrated

Definitely not the same. Broth is so bland!
  23. becomingmandikaye

    Getting frustrated

That's what I do - I add Genepro to strained chicken soup and it's AMAZING. It's the only thing I have that tastes remotely like real food, so I savor that cup every day.
  24. Is it normal to feel hungry so soon after surgery? I'm not sure hungry is the right word for what I'm experiencing. I'm feeling sensations that I would have called hunger pangs in the past. Stomach growling, rumblings going up to my throat, etc. Sometimes it's physically painful, sometimes it's just irritating. But at the end of the day, I know I don't physically want food. I can usually settle it with a Protein shake, but it's happening far more often than I would like. Is this hunger? Is this gas? Is it something else?
