    Looking for a new shake

Have you tried any of the Syntrax nectar flavors? I was very pleasantly surprised by those.

sleeve next week, ?s about post diet

I'm on soft foods - but it's really a misnomer as a lot of the food I eat is "solid" - deli meat, cheese, scrambled eggs, chicken, etc. Follow your plan. Your surgeon has been successful with the plan he's prescribing for you. Just don't get too hung up on what things are called.

    Purée and soft food

My first thought is - you're allowed toast?? I have some more time before that happens for me. You're not supposed to drink when you eat, ever. The reason is because the water will flush the food out of your stomach faster making you eat more and get hungry sooner. If you're eating something dry, my nutritionist has sad that a sip of water would be okay to get it down, but that's it. It's part of this lifestyle change to help us lose the weight and then not regain it.

    Feeling pretty overwhelmed

It helped me a lot to read other people's experiences, so in case it may be helpful for you... here's a blog post I wrote and a video about why I made this decision. http://becomingmandikaye.com/2016/05/26/changing-my-life/ Good luck to you!

    Trying to decide...

I had to watch a video online or attend a seminar at my bariatric center (I opted for the video). And then I watched every youtube video I could find of folks talking about the gastric sleeve (the folks who had it, not the doctors talking about it). I found blogs to read. I talked to people who had it. And then I found forums. This site was invaluable to me as I researched the procedures, especially since I wasn't sure at first which procedure I wanted. Welcome! And good luck as you make your decision!

    Resting immediately post op

I did that for the first few days, too - though I was getting up at least every hour to make sure I got my little cups of fluids. Truthfully, I got up more in the hospital than I did at home! Once I went off the pain meds (day 5ish), it was much easier to get up and around.

    My work here is done

You will be missed. I'm a newbie (3 weeks out), but you and all of the vets have been absolutely invaluable to me as I started this journey, and as I continue to progress. But you gotta do what's best for you. <3

I checked out your blog. Our stats are very similar so you will be a nice benchmark for me (I don't have a surgery date yet)! I hope your dreaded stall does not last long!

Thanks! I hope so too. I'm itching to get below 218 because that's the lowest number I've seen in YEARS! It'll come - I just have to be patient. :) I hope you get your surgery date soon!

    This is Horrible...

It sounds like you're eating too fast. Take more time between bites and see if that helps with that pain.
  9. ...could eat veggies or fruit in addition to your protein? I'm 3 weeks post op tomorrow, and 1/4 cup protein is still almost too much food so I never get anything else.
  10. Sometimes I just get really tired of the judgement from other people I see around here.

      kmorri

I know how you feel.....Been there done that and had to have my post locked down to calm the waters...lol Hang in there and just understand judgement by people you don't even know doesn't amount to a hill of beans!

      VEGAN ME

I know, some people think that everyone else is stupid

How long was it until you....

Thanks! That's the answer I was looking for.

    Solids

If you're still on liquids, then yes it could hurt. If you've progressed to soft foods, it may be okay depending what else is in there. Though - be prepared for the can of worms you just opened by asking that question.

How long was it until you....

But will you be able to? That's the question I'm asking. I've been cleared for it for a week, and I physically can't do it.
  14. becomingmandikaye

    Not sure what this is...

Yep, those are bariatric advantage calcium chews.
  15. becomingmandikaye

    I'm so tired!

Are you taking your b12 too?
  16. becomingmandikaye

How much time should I take off?

I have a desk job and went back to work today (tomorrow is 3 weeks post op). Physically I'm absolutely fine, but I left early due to sheer fatigue. Being on your feet all day? You're going to need more time off than I took.

    Hot Dogs?

I gotta be honest - hotdogs are one of my all time favorite foods, and I can't wait until I can have one again. One. Not three. (Probably not even one whole one!)
  18. becomingmandikaye

What NSV do you hope for post op?

This may be silly, especially since it might not happen for me genetically.... but I really want to see my collar bones.

    This is Horrible...

A lot of that hunger pain probably is acid. If you're already on a PPI, try Tums when you feel it. I promise it will help. As far as pureed foods go, I didn't have a puree stage, but I did have some thicker Soups like tomato bisque or broccoli cheese or potato (I would puree those last two).

    Getting approved for surgery

Oh I just ate all of the food I knew I wouldn't be able to. Lots of food funerals.

    Getting approved for surgery

I was at 41.6 I think. But I also made a conscious effort to gain about 10 pounds before my consultation to ensure I was over that line. They used the weight from my first appointment.

    Stuggling with clear liquid phase

If you could have skim milk could you not have Premier Protein? It is about the same consistency and has much more Protein than milk. Oh, yes I could. I was just struggling with the taste at the time and opted to get my protein through small amounts of Isopure and GENEPRO in broth.

    Getting approved for surgery

Those were the same requirements I had, though my surgeon also required an endoscopy. My first appointment with the surgeon was 4/28, did the psych and nutritionist visits on 5/2 and was all but cleared for surgery at that point. Endoscopy was scheduled for 6/6 (my surgeon only does them one Monday per month), and I was approved by insurance on 6/7. Pre-op appointments on 6/9 and surgery was 6/15.

    Stuggling with clear liquid phase

I got most of my calories in the first week from diluted fruit juice and skim milk. But I was still only averaging around 200 calories per day until I was able to add thicker/pureed soups.
