    Sweet tooth

Syntrax Nectar has a Cookies N Cream protein powder that is DIVINE mixed with Fairlife Skim. They have some other sweet flavors too, but I haven't tried them. Get a sample pack and see if they help.
  2. Today was such a good day, food-wise. Yay!

  3. Here's my TMI status for the day: Why does my body wait until I get to work (well after weighing in) to poop now? *sigh*

  4. There are CUPCAKES in the kitchen at work. My favorite. But it's actually pretty easy to say no to them.

I always imagine that cupcakes in the kitchen are tainted with something. :)

    Cravings

I had cravings, but they weren't true cravings. I wanted all kinds of food, but it was because I couldn't have it. If someone had actually put a cheeseburger in front of me, I would have been disgusted by it.

    Care after leaving the hospital

The only reason you wouldn't be able to drive is if you're taking the narcotic pain meds to manage your pain. I was lucky and had my mom with me, but I didn't *need* her. The only other thing I can think of that may be an issue or inconvenience is the weight restriction. If there's something on the floor you need and it's too heavy, you may not be able to pick it up!

    First time vomiting spell

So sorry that happened to you. Hope you feel better soon!

Those pics are AMAZING! How fun!
  9. Bah humbug. I made chili for dinner and ate just a smidge too much.

Too much spice or just too much volume? Hurt when you "hit the wall", doesn't it? Sorry, friend.

    2. becomingmandikaye

      becomingmandikaye

Just volume. It was a pretty miserable half hour or so until it all managed to go down! I will say that I haven't had any issues with spicy food (yet). Which is good, because I do like some spice (but nothing too crazy).

Bah humbug is right! There are still times when I eat 1 or 2 bites too many and regret it. Problem is, once you've eaten it, you can't take it back. That very uncomfortable feeling for awhile afterwards is just that - very uncomfortable. I've been fortunate, too, that spicy food hasn't been a problem nor have my tastes changes post-surgery.

    Pain when having food

Try drinking something a different temperature. I found my new tummy spasmed with cold liquids right after surgery, but was fine with warm things.

    D&D Temptations

Be careful with that Fairlife chocolate protein milk - it's got a not insignificant amount of sugar in it and can upset your new tummy!
  12. I knew that title would get lots of folk to click, ready to chastise me.... But I do seriously have a question about overeating. Does anyone else find themselves still eating more than you should, not because you want the food but because you want the Protein that's in it trying to hit your goal for the day? I push myself to finish my appropriate portions (1/4 cup, generally speaking) so I don't waste the protein and get it in.
  13. I'm only 4 weeks out, so I haven't experienced "normal" yet - but all of my reading and research tells me that yes, you will be able to eat just about anything you want to. Most vets talk about doing so at 18 months+, though I believe many say they could have as early as 9-10 months out, they just chose not to because they were still in the losing phase. The time right after surgery is not our "new normal".

That's my expectation of most, if not all, of the substitutes, additives and inhumane supplement-type products.

    2. becomingmandikaye

      becomingmandikaye

My body is accustomed to processed foods, so substitutes and additives don't generally bother me at all. It's just very strange. I have always had an iron stomach, and I've retched more in the last month than I have in the last decade! Thank goodness it never became actual vomiting though.

  17. Who would've thunk that a teeny 2oz hamburger patty would be nearly too much food for me!

    1. Daisee68

      Daisee68

Isn't that amazing? At 1 year post-op, I still have difficulty with too much beef. It is tougher to digest it seems.

    2. KindaFamiliar

      KindaFamiliar

I'm nearly 18 months post-op and have only just added red meat back into my diet to any degree...

And yes, a small patty (3.5 ounces) and a few sweet potato chips fills me...

I do love my continued restriction!!!

    3. becomingmandikaye

      becomingmandikaye

I am definitely a red meat kind of girl. I can't have steak until September, and that just makes me sad! I hate seafood, but I'm adding a lot of it to my diet - I'm trying to get as much protein as possible from my food instead of having to do powder, shakes, or other protein drinks. I haven't yet had a day where all of my protein came from my food - but I'll get there!

  18. What's your favorite protein coffee recipe?

    1. WLSResources/ClothingExch

      WLSResources/ClothingExch

What's "protein coffee", please? Is it a forever thing or just for a time post-surgery?

    2. becomingmandikaye

      becomingmandikaye

It can be both. A lot of folks drink coffee for breakfast, so they add protein to it to make sure they hit their macros for the day. Some people mix a vanilla premier protein shake with a large black coffee, for example.

    3. WLSResources/ClothingExch

      WLSResources/ClothingExch

Thanks for the clarification. If I revise to sleeve, I either want to know that I won't have to live with fake protein forever or at least have time to get used to the idea as a trade-off. The idea thus far is too dismal for me. I expect I'd feel other than human.

  19. Why is "see a therapist" the answer to everything for some people? I mean, there's nothing wrong with seeing a therapist, but it's not the end all be all to life.

most of my friends thank me for the therapy session after they sit and visit. lol. sometimes all you need is a friend or a peer. occasionally we need a professional. ;-)

IDK, it usually does not work for me. It CAN help to speak your problems out loud, instead of ruminating in your head around and around on a hamster wheel! It breaks the patterns. I did get help when I consulted with Kim Saeed of the Let the Reach FB site. She is not a counselor, per se, but her website and advice for those in/getting out of narcissistic relationships is the bomb, And our one hour conversation helped me tremendously. I go on about her, because it is the only time I can remember a counseling session being worth it. I am with WLR Resources, maybe those people who make that advice maybe have never HAD counseling! But, yeah..it can help the rumination wheel in your head..can :)

    Bowel movement question post op

Keep in mind that your body hasn't had solid food in days, and won't for days yet. If there's no solid in, it won't really be solid out.

Gastric Sleeve 1 Week (4 Days Post Op)

I second what @@Inner Surfer Girl said! Stay off the scale, walk, and sip! Just keep on keeping on and you will feel better, and you will lose weight.

    Tired

Don't overdo it! I'm not allowed to exercise until 6 weeks out (other than walking/biking).
  23. You will eventually feel fatigue from your body healing + lack of calories. Keep in mind - people post about complications FAR more than they do feeling good. That's why you feel like that's all you've read. I didn't feel quite as good as you, but I did end up feeling like my surgery was an anomaly because I had no complications, no pain, no vomiting, no constipation, etc.
