I am definitely not going to dwell on it. The initial sting hurt, but I know he didn't mean to hurt me. I won't give anyone's words the power to derail me Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

lmwilla replied to lmwilla's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@chele367 My pre op diet is only 2 weeks of a 1200 calorie diet and I don't start that until 6/6. Other than that I am starting to cut out the crap food to prepare. I'm not really planning on a food funeral, but I would like to eat at Olive Garden 1 more time haha. Pasta isn't going to be my friend ever again. I am a little nervous about the actual procedure, but other than that I am ecstatic and can't wait!!! Good luck and stay in touch!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I also have UHC Choice Plus and I did not have to complete a supervised diet or have a weight loss. I had to have a BMI of 35-39.99 with at least 1 co-morbidity or a BMI 40+ with no co-morbidity, had to have a psych evalulation, have to use a center of excellence for surgeon, be enrolled in the program with Optum and be in contact with a case manager and a psych nurse. That was it for insurance guidelines. For my surgeon I had to attend an informational seminar, 1 nutritionist appointment, 1 support group, and my consultation. I didn't have to see a pulmonologist or cardiologist as my surgeon didn't feel I needed it. I made my first phone call to start the process on March 1, 2016 and my file was submitted to insurance on 04/28/2016. I should hear back either today or tomorrow from insurance :-) I really think the guidelines are set by employers and their agreements with insurance companies. Good luck!

I am in the beginning of my new life journey. I have attended a seminar and am waiting for both my psych and surgeon appointments. Since I have decided to do this, I feel like my weight and appearance are getting worse and don't know how my view of myself changed so drastically in a matter of a month. I am just so ready for the change! On top of that, I have a great friend who I have been friends with for 15 years. She is "my person". She is also overweight however has no desire for surgical options. I completely understand that and know that it is a very personal decision. Unfortunately, I feel guilty because she is sad that I am going to be changing. She keeps asking what we're going to do when we go out because we can't go sit and talk at dinner or shop at the same stores. I know I shouldn't feel guilty and I am beyond excited for this journey. How do you deal with the varying degrees of opinions??

Thank you all! It is great to have this forum where we can all relate. I will definitely look into that book, it looks like it is a great resource. I am just so excited and I wish I could share this with her. Hopefully my changes will inspire her too!

Hi all!! I am newly starting this process and have a few questions. I spoke to my insurance company (UHC) and found out their requirements beyond BMI requirements and they are: 1. Surgery must be completed at a COE (center of excellence 2. Have to have a psych appointment I see so many having supervised diets and NUT. I am wondering if any of that is the surgeons requirement? What is typical for surgeon requirements? I go to my informational session on Friday, after that I can schedule with the surgeon. Thank you Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

The difference in requirements is crazy. I specifically asked my insurance case manager about the supervised diet and it isn't a requirement for me (she said it is dictated by the employer). I already have my psych appointment scheduled and waiting to get into the surgeon as his requirements are the only items left. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
