do you follow the post fill diet and why is it necessary?
Lori_NC replied to Linda Hamsing Rosen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My Dr states that you can eat after a fill but I apparently cant tolerate so I am back on liquids. I just posted a thread about the hell I went through. Hoping that all is well from here on. -
Well my history is banded 3/28/08 and 1st fill was on 5/5/08. I have a 10cc band and the Dr put in 5cc's. 2nd fill was on Monday 6/9/08 and I explained that I had lost weight mainly during the first 2 wks after my fill. Since that time I have been grazing and eating normal portions - like prior to surgery - for the most part. I have been making better choices but still eating more than recommended. So the NP gives me 2cc bringing me up to 7cc's. I left feeling tight. They recommended that I try eating normal foods just on the mushy side. I tried and it took me 45 mins to eat very little - my 2 1/2 yr old daughter ate 3/4 of the same meal while I ate 1/4. By Mon night I was having acid reflux and could not get or keep water down. Middle of the night was major acid reflux and water coming up. Yesterday I took numerous Pepcid ac's and went back to trying protein shakes. Worked in the am but not in the pm. By the pm and later evening everything was coming back up. Last night I was coughing and now nothing was staying down so I decided to sip/drink nothing but still had fluid coming up. Let me also state that on Mon evening I realized I had a sinus infection coming on and a sore throat. This and the acid reflux together was making life hell. I talked to the Dr's office this morning and since the reflux calmed down and now protein drink is staying down, as well as 1/2 of a yogurt they want me to update them this afternoon. I am hoping that it was just me trying regular food rather than liquids that put me thru this hell for the last 2 days, but I did as I was told. Nurse thinks that the food may have been a little to early and that since I was sick and then you add swollen all adding to my misery. Im sticking to bland liquids today and tomorrow, if this continues well today. If not, then Im going in for a small unfill.

I have a 10cc band and my Dr put in 5cc's for the first fill. I went back for my second fill on Monday and they put in another 2cc's. Its been a rough few days but I think I finally may have adjusted to the fill.

Now that sounds good. I have been using egg substitute instead of real eggs (unless I'm eating egg salad). That would drop the about 40 calories off. Thanks for the idea!!

What kind of band do you have?
Lori_NC replied to TxChelsey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the AP small which is 10cc. Good luck. -
Please tell me how much you lost on your 2 week pre-op liquid diet.
Lori_NC replied to SydneyLouWho's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe the first week was 8 and the second was 7 for a total of 15lbs.... Good luck -
I am one as well. I bought "no-salt" and it tastes just like salt to me. I have been adding to my soups and broth as well as other dry spices.

Just banded and my Dr allows me to have soup. I used a 1/3 of a can of cream of chicken soup (reduced fat), added 1 ounce of chicken breast, milk (to reach desired thin consistency), approx 1/4 cup of 2% cheddar cheese and added a little broccoli. I put this all on my majic bullet added some dry ingredients such as no-salt (salt substitute), pepper, garlic powder and onion powder and pureed it and heated..... it was a chicken divan soup and so yummy. Im finding that I am not very hungry and only taking in 2 shakes during the day and soup at night so I wanted more protein in this soup. It takes me 1 - 2 hrs to drink my soups so I dont feel sick from drinking it to quickly.

Just call me Bloated Betty...
Lori_NC replied to lifechange82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just banded 3/28 and I have some gas issues as well. Feels like something is sitting on my chest and I feel very bloated. Everytime I have walked around my house today I feel a little relief. Just keep moving. -
getting ready and looking for advice
Lori_NC replied to littlesweet's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with Indigo, follow your Dr's instructions to the T. Mine wanted a 2 wk liquid pre-op diet and I did it. I also lost 15lbs by following it. My view is only from the surgery point, I cant wait to see what happens from here. I had surgery 3/28 and have had mild discomfort and some gas issues. None in the shoulders as others have experienced, mine is more like something is sitting on my chest. The gas-x strips have worked wonders. Walk walk walk, immediately. I was up and moving within 4hrs of getting into my room. I was just a short walk, but I then later took a longer one and I keep pacing around my home. Im a single mom with a 2 yr old daughter and I have the weekend to re-cooperate before getting her back tomorrow afternoon from daycare. I plan on going back to work on Tuesday for 1/2 a day and then I have a full day of meetings on Wednesday. Just follow your Dr's advice.
