  1. Good post! I am currently in "Bandster Hell" and getting through on only willpower. My cravings have been bad for soda and chocolate, but I'm making it through without either. I know this stage will past and it's nice to know everyone else experiences it also!

    Airport Security

I haven't flown since having the band, so I can't help you there. But, I was given a card from my surgeon, explaining that I have the lapband, the size of the band and contact numbers for my physician. I carry it in my wallet. It's the size of a credit card.
  3. She can not wait until Monday. You need to call the physician's office and find out if he has an associate physician on call or take her to the ER. Besides the fact that acid reflux is not good for her, she could choke in her sleep if she is gurgling that much while sleeping. She needs fluids, whether it be by IV or taking out some fill so she can drink. It's good that you are watching out for her. Don't put it off until Monday.

    You look great. Congrats!
  5. Hi there! How are you and your husband doing? I love your new pic!

  6. Thanks. =) It took me forever to get it to let me put a pic up! I love your pic. I always come out looking funny when I try to pose...lol. BTW, I'll probably have some 24's for fall clothes if you're interested.

    Dr. Kaplan in Parkersburg?

Good luck on Friday and Happy Early Birthday!!
  8. I just saw your question about where he puts the ports. =) Mine is on the right side, below the 1/2 way point between my belly button and breast. The waist of my pants is below it, so I have no problems there. I was one of the first ones that he started putting it a little higher on. It is in a perfect spot!!

    Dr. Kaplan in Parkersburg?

Thanks. I'm going to insist on a fill this time. When I was on liquids and mushies I had no appetite because everything just kinda got gross after a while. Now that I'm back on regular food, I'm hungry!!!:cool2:

    Dr. Kaplan in Parkersburg?

I went in for my first fill and didn't get it because I was losing without it. Jeannie says it is billed like a visit, Lindsey told me the first 3-4 were included in the cost. I guess Lindsey was wrong. Doesn't do me any good to argue about it, I suppose. I have to have it, so I'm going to have to pay I guess. I go next Monday for one.

    Dr. Kaplan in Parkersburg?

Jennifer- Good to hear from you! I was just wondering over the weekend how you were doing! My husband goes tomorrow for his pre-op appointment with Dr. Kaplan. He should be having surgery in the next 2-3 weeks. I am on week 5 now. Hard to believe how quickly time has flown by this summer. I went last week for my first fill and he didn't do it because I had lost 22lbs since my pre-op diet, with 7 after surgery. But, this week I seem to be more hungry now that I'm back on regular foods. I have an appointment next Monday, so hopefully I'll get the fill! Froggi- You're doing a great Job! Just think, only 2 more months! Surgery will be here before you know it.
  12. I wasn't trying to be mean. I have just been seeing so many posts lately where people are nagging on those getting the band who don't weigh as much as others and I read your post wrong. No hard feelings!
  13. You must take all metal jewelry off for surgery because they don't want anything on you that can conduct an electric current and burn you. BTTRFLI- If they want belly button rings, who cares? It has nothing to do with whether or not they need lapband. When I worked labor and delivery I would see 300+ lb women come in with their belly buttons done. I personally don't have one, but to each his own.

    GoodBye to All!

Wow, based on your ticker, it doesn't look like you have nearly as much to lose as some do. I have BCBS in Ohio and it's interesting to see how each state is different. I was approved for the band without any questions. Good luck to you. I'm glad that you did get approved for GB. I know you must be excited.

    Tightness in the morning????

I have this same issue in the morning. Some people are just tighter in the am. I haven't had a fill yet, because I have some restriction with the band alone and have lost weight without the fill. My Dr. wants me to wait to see how I do first.
  16. It looks like a 2 and then an S. Has to be a typo. There's no way they would keep someone under anesthesia for 25 hrs to do a procedure that normally takes less than an hour! If that's the case, I'll take my 5 small incisions anyday!:cursing:
  17. Well, I'm a little disappointed. Yesterday was 4 weeks out from surgery for me. I went to get my first fill. The Dr. wouldn't do it because he said he thought I had enough restriction right now. I have lost 22 lbs since the first of June (that includes the 15lbs that I lost on the 2 week high Protein pre-op diet). So, I've only lost 7 since surgery. I understand that this falls in to the 2 lbs a week guidelines and I'm OK with that. I was just so looking forward to a fill to make eating small portions easier. Yes, I am sticking to six 1/2 cup servings a day but it's only due to sheer willpower and fear of hurting myself with a newly placed band. I can eat more than 1/2 a cup. I was put on six 1/2 cup servings instead of 3 meals because of severe shoulder pain I was having a couple of weeks ago. He basically said if I continue to lose at the rate I'm supposed to, I won't need a fill. Well, I'm working hard to do what I have without what I feel is true restriction and quite frankly I could have gotten this far without the band. I feel like I have a great tool that's all healed up now, but I'm not being allowed to use it. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Were you able to eventually get a fill???
  18. It's not about the weight loss at all. I am happy with how well I have done. In fact, that is the main reason my Dr. would not fill me, because I have lost well without the fill. I would just like the satiety portion to fall into place. I am exercising and have done so since starting the program in March. I think that has helped me to lose the amount of weight that I have. I do agree with those of you who said to wait 6-8 weeks on a fill due to the healing process. My Dr. does start them at 4 weeks though. Thanks to everyone for the input. I wrote my original post before lunch and I was hungry and grumpy.
  19. We did talk about satiety and hunger. I have not had the 3-4 hour period to experience a lot of hunger because they have had me eating basically 1/2 cup every 2-3 hours. I would have liked to have had a small fill and went to 3 meals a day. I know that I do have some restriction without the fill because I do get full sooner. The Nurse Practitioner did tell me that if my hunger was too great over the next couple of weeks to call about going back in. I guess the biggest thing is that I had myself excited for the fill and then it didn't happen. Don't get me wrong, I love my band and so far things have been great. I'm just letting off a little steam.
  20. I was banded June 30th and mine did the same thing. I'm an RN and we see alot of patients who have reactions to the triple antibiotic ointment. Just get some bacitracin ointment (in the same section at a drug store as the triple antibiotic) and keep it covered for a few days with a bandaid. I did this to my wound and it has finally closed over. Good luck!
  21. 1.) I was required to stay overnight in the hospital (physician requires all his patients to stay). So, I didn't drive. I didn't drive for about a week. 2.) I have taken diet pills in the past. I don't like how they make me feel, so I will never take them again for that reason. I don't know how they would do with the band. 3.) I took 2 weeks off work. My work is about 1/2 and 1/2 on my feet and sitting. I was really tired the first week I was back. This is the 2nd week back and I'm feeling much better.

    glued incisions

It took about 2 weeks for most of the glue to come off. What was left after that, I picked off. The incisions were well healed by then.
  23. Hey Froggi. I just saw this thread today! I've got a little bit of head in the sand going on... Things are going pretty well. I go for my first fill this coming Monday. I'll let you know how it goes!
  24. I think I can help you! I had surgery June 30th also, but I didn't start having shoulder pain until last week. The pain was so severe I was in tears. After talking to my Dr's office I worked things out and the pain is completely gone now! I started taking, under the advice of my physician, Zantac twice a day. I eat six or seven 1/2 cup meals a day. I am still on the pureed stage. I stop at 1/2 a cup and eat no more! It I am still hungry 30 minutes later I'll have a bit more. This has made my shoulder pain go completely away. The NP at my Dr's office thought I may have been eating too much and having acid production too, even though I had no heartburn. I hope this helps and that you feel better soon!
  25. Sounds like you have probably irritated your stomach. I am 3 weeks post-op and would be scared to death to try steak. I am still on the pureed stage and won't go to soft foods until next week. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon.
