  1. Hi everyone. I haven't been on here for a long time. I thought I'd just update my photos and info and decided to share my photos with you. I had Gastric Bypass Feb. 2nd, 2016. I have lost 94 lbs. so far. I hit my surgeon's original goal weight of 151 on Dec. 28th but I have lost a little muscle mass and now my goal is 143. So I have a little ways to go still. I have had no issues other than getting my gallbladder removed a couple months after my WLS. I have lost over 6 feet of inches. I went from 244 lbs. to 150 today. I've gone from a 2X shirt and 18 pants to a S/M shirt and size 7/8 pants. I went snow skiing for the first time yesterday. I never would have been able to do that before losing this weight. I am so Thankful that I had this surgery. It has changed my life and also how I want to live it! Here's a few pictures for ya.
  2. Sounds like your doing fine! My surgeon just had me on liquids the first week. Then the second week I could have pureed like you are doing! I think blueberries are fine but just make sure they are very mushy with your yogurt. The 3rd week post op I could have soft mushy like mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, all soups etc. Your doing great!
  3. Thanks Everyone! I remember thinking what the heck have I done right after surgery. When my hair started falling out, I wondered if I'd have any left. I struggled getting everything required in. Now, I'm almost 100 lbs. lighter, my hairs growing back and I've mastered my diet to succeed!

When can I start smoking again?

@FrankLucena I don't think anyone wants to answer this! I used to be a smoker. I don't think you should smoke because of the risks of an ulcer etc. not to mention other dangers as you know. I don't want to lecture you and I know you just want a date but, there isn't a time frame that is good to smoke! You've gone this long, don't do it! Are you going to go back to eating crap too? You have to eat different now. Did you do the surgery just to look good or to be healthy too? Sorry, bout the lecture and the stuff you already know but obviously you need to hear it again. Your life, Your Risk! Is it worth it?

    Bypass or Sleeve?

Yep! I had to have Bypass cuz of my Gerd and Barrett's Esophagus! I haven't had any issues since! Before surgery, even Water gave me acid reflux! I am very pleased with my surgery and haven't had any issues other than needing my Gallbladder out a couple months after surgery! Now I'm great!

    11 months post-op

I'm 11 months post-op too! Congrats to you! You look amazing and your results are amazing too!
  7. I have! People call me tiny now! What??? That's crazy to me. I don't feel big and I was worried that I would see myself as that big girl still. But, when I try on clothes, they do not lie. I'm sure you can tell the difference! Let yourself relish in it! Take measurments and photos along the way! They really show the difference! Way to go! Your doing great!

    Post Op Food Woes

Just do the best you can! I could only get about 40 grams of protein for the first two months or so. It gets easier later to add more in and once you can have more food choices. Just sip slowly. I probably tried to guzzle and that hurt. You learn quick. Hang in there. It gets easier.
  9. Yeah! I wouldn't have blueberries yet. Unless you cook them and mash them then mix them in the yogurt! I would just try to get Protein shakes/soups in at this point! That was me anyways. Would a yogurt have filled you up before surgery??? Just saying! I could eat a whole plate of Mexican food, 2 basket of chips and salsa and fried ice cream with 2 pina coladas or 2 pops and that was just dinner. LOL! Now if we go to Mexican, my husband orders the fajitas and I have just a little of the meat and veggies (about 1/2 cup)and a bite or two of Beans and I'm done! It is great that you aren't having any real issues, are you losing weight?

    Gaining weight after surgery

Yep! I gained 8 lbs. 2 weeks later I was like 18 down.
  11. You are doing Awesome! I lost a lot like you the first 3 months and then it really slowed down. I think I lost the same as you and now I am 150 at 11 months post op! Losing 52 lbs. has to feel amazing. I know it did for me. I have been losing 3 to 5 lbs. monthly since October. Slow but, I am only 7 lbs. from my goal weight. Your results are going to be better if you aren't so stressed out! Start blogging, exercising or creating delicious dinners. I know I lose more weight when I eat more. But it has to be the right kind of more. Proteins for instance. I hope you start feeling your doing great, cuz you are! Best of everything to ya!

    Why did you choose bypass?

I wanted the Sleeve for the same reason. My surgeon wouldn't do the sleeve because I had Gird and Barrett's Esophagus. Since my Bypass, I haven't had one ounce of acid reflux! GONE! That's worth it in itself! I haven't had any Vitamin deficiencies, but I did lose a lot of my hair. It's growing back now though. That is common when losing rapidly. I take a high dose of Biotin daily and that's helping I think! Either surgery is great but, the sleeve will make Gerd worse. Good Luck to ya!

    Help!

Wow! I can't imagine having this surgery and not doing it right! I mean, I had an addiction just as much as the next obese person. What this surgery did for me is give me enough time to break my addiction to the foods that made me fat! It was a forced lifestyle change. If she doesn't make the changes then she will eventually gain all her weight she loses back. I am taking advantage of the small stomach and staying away from sugary, fattening foods that would make me sick or nauseous after surgery. O'h trust me, I tried to eat them and I could easily add them back into my diet because they really don't make me sick. That would be stupid. I was given a second chance to live the life I've always wanted. You sound like you have your head in the game. I agree, there is nothing you can do that you already haven't done accept show her how it's done like you said! Good Luck to the both of you! It is Life Changing!

    Pain Meds?

I don't remember what I was on but it was a narcotic. All I can say is if you do have pain and are put on some kind of hydromorphone. TAKE MIRALAX too. I got all blocked up and it was excrutiiating. No fun! Tylenol is all I'm allowed. Walk, Walk, Walk. Sip on Water all day! Once I started doing this more often, the healing took off! I did have a lot of pain after my surgery though. That is why I took the pain med my surgeon gave me.

How soon did you return to work?

I was out for 5 weeks. I am a school bus driver and since that requires you to lift 40 plus pounds my surgeon wanted me off until I could do that! It really depends on how much activity you have. It sounds to me, you have quite a bit and heavy lifting. Talk to your surgeon but I'm sure they will say 4 to 6 weeks! I wasn't ready before 5 for sure. Good Luck! Hope that helps!

  17. So I had my 3 month follow up with my surgeon last Friday! He did a Barium Swallow test to make sure the pain I'm having isn't food getting stuck. That looked good. So he said he is pretty sure it's my Gallbladder. I go for an ultrasound tomorrow and if I have stones, he wants to take it out. Have some of you had this done? Well, I haven't lost but 2 lbs. this in the last 4 weeks too. That's frustrating because I am eating right, getting in all my stuff and I've been working out. Anyways, I am still down 45 lbs. so, way happier and I feel better....
  18. Hello Everyone! I just wanted to share my before and now progress photos and a little bit about my journey so far! I am about 9 weeks post-op. I am 5'3 and my starting weight was 243. I currently weigh 203. I am feeling a lot better already! I no longer have high blood pressure and I'm no longer pre-diabetic. I also have not had any issues with my Acid Reflux since surgery. Everything is much easier to do already! I felt like I was losing weight slowly. Maybe it was because I had a 3 week stall but, I'm averaging more than 4 lbs. a week loss even with that! That's not too shabby! It's true what they say. You can lose inches without losing weight! I have lost over 4 feet of inches from all over my body! I cannot wait to see what the future brings! Now that food is not controlling my life, I feel this can be done and I can actually go all the way! The surgery was not easy but the surgery has made it do-able for me! What goes up, Must come down! Ha,Ha! Finally!
  19. Thanks Everyone! I have been stuck for a month now. I've lost more inches and I've gone from size 14 to 12 but my weight is still 198. That's frustrating but, I will just keep on keeping on!

    Body Dis-Morphia, mind games etc

I'm right there with ya. I have only lost 2 lbs. this last month. My surgeon wasn't concerned because he thinks I'm not getting enough calories for my activity level. I didn't think I'd not lose weight when I'm eating less than 1000 calories a day and exercising most days. I did just start working out with weights which might be why as well. I find myself wanting carbs more than meats. My nutritionist said that as long as I get my Protein in carbs are okay. I guess we just have to play around with our diets and exercise to see what works best for us. As long as your eating healthy carbs and not sugary or high fat ones. Your gonna do great! My surgeon said everyone stalls and then it starts going again.

One week out and some numbness

I had some nerve damage which made things worse. Deffinitely ask your Doc about it though. Mine was not where they didn't cut like yours. I do know that nerve damage can play a role in hurting other places as well. If it is nerve damage. Mine got better after 5 weeks. Best of Luck!

    Pain on liver side

Hi! Most of my pain was on the left side! It lasted 4 weeks. I couldn't lay down. I had to sleep in my recliner. I didn't have much energy but walking really did help if I moved a little every hour. I am 3 months out and now my surgeon thinks I'm going to need my Gallbladder out. I go for an ultrasound tomorrow. Yippee. More incisions and another surgery. Anyways, I was not the typical. My pain I would describe as cramping and uncomfortable. It gets better. Hang in there.
