Post-surgery rash and menstrual changes?
wildwolf235 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Prior to surgery, I was on a 10 day pre-op liquid diet during which I lost 12 lbs. Day of surgery, I was given prophylactic antibiotics via IV and the nurse told me I had developed a rash on my chest afterwards, so now this is an allergy to me apparently Two days later I woke up in the night literally yelling out in pain because my arms, shoulders, and hands were aching and hurting worse than anything I'd ever felt. I got up and discovered I had big hives all over my chest, face, and arms. Called the surgeon, he said this "wasn't normal" and deferred me to the ER. They determined I was having some sort of allergic reaction to the new medicine and so, 2 days post-op, I stopped all nausea meds, all the anti-spasmodic for my tummy, and all pain meds. They gave me a big dose of prednisone and I was better. Fast forward to now... one month and 3 days post-sleeve. I still have this ridiculously itchy, hivey rash on my neck and chesy. I stopped using perfumes, stopped wearing necklaces, no changes to my detergent/soap/lotion. My doctor just seems absolutely perplexed, which is annoying to me. It has not spread at all... just my neck and chest. Taken it upon myself to do some heavy Google research and found that there are several people claiming they get itchy rashes with ketosis. I am in full-blown ketosis right now and have been since day 2 of the post-op diet. Anybody like to weigh in and give a testimonial or similar story or info or insight or... ?? Anything to make me feel like I'm not nuts lol. Also - I was on my period when I had surgery and, as many others have said happened to them, I then ended up having a longer period with spotting for about 4 days. Now I am supposed to start my period again and I literally had the tiniest bit of blood after sex and now nothing?? Full cramps, craving, bloating, and everything else but no bleeding. Not pregnant... tubes tied. Just wondering if anyone had anything similar?? -
Insurance - 6 months or 6 visits?

My insurance also required 6 months. My dietitian said my 1st visit was considered the 1st month, then I went back one month each until I had reached 6 visits. So technically I had only done 5 months and got approved. -

Yeah, I also have to work 12-hour shifts and that has been rough to get through, mostly because of the tiredness. 3 more shifts... Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App -
Pre-op liquid diet is rough... ~_~
wildwolf235 replied to wildwolf235's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Luckily, I have already been able to put head hunger aside. I see things and think... mmm, I'd love a giant plate of that RIGHT NOW... but I know it will be a long time before I am able to eat normal foods and I know I will never eat in excess like that again. Right now it is the literal physical hunger and "hangry" feelings that are getting at me. Thanks for the words of encouragement. Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App -
Hi all, I have my surgery on 3/14, so 3 days! I started my pre-op liquid diet on 3/5. My doctor has sort of started his own little bariatric empire and does all counseling, blood work, EKG, literally everything in his own office, including providing all pre-op liquids prior to surgery for a single fee. After 5 days on the liquid diet, I am kind of just... blah. I have a very active job and I actually had to go home sick after the 1st day of the diet because I had no energy, headache, diarrhea, etc... wasn't 'til I mentioned that to my dietitian did she tell me that was "normal" for detoxing carbs... nobody warned me beforehand!!! Anyways, I feel terrible because I have cheated twice on the diet. I didn't go have any big full meals, and actually because I know the goal of the diet is low cal/no carb/high Protein, I cheated by "only" eating plain boiled eggs and cold cut no carb lunch meat... just felt like I need SOMETHING in my belly to help the hunger pangs. Just feeling down in the dumps about it... I feel like a failure and I'm scared of feeling like this AFTER surgery... I mean, you DO feel a lot less hungry afterwards, right?? I also know some people have to do way longer diets than one week, so I definitely just feel all around upset with myself over it. Any advice, support, etc would be so welcome.
