Post Surgery Abdominal Swelling
csawesome replied to OzRoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What did your dr say? Today I had lots of swelling, like the size and shape of a large bagel around largest incision. It hard, tight and makes walking really uncomfortable. I made sure really worked my fluids today and walked for several small walks, seems to just gotten tighter. Heading to bed early, it's such a pulling sensation it's hard to stand up straight. I will call dr if it gets worse or doesn't start clearing up in the next day or two, but just wondered if it's common. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk -
Who else got sleeved on the 28th of march?
csawesome replied to elaina831's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on the 28th. Over all not to bad, lots of stomach swelling. Working on getting my fluids and Proteins in. I tried to get on the treadmill and do a long slow walk, but just felt like it was too much pulling on my stomach. Just stinking to walking around the house, I will try again tomorrow. Can someone on Synthroid or Levothyroxine show me your pill schedule?
csawesome replied to jobillandjosh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take synthroid in the morning when I first wake up. I take 1 Multivitamin, sublingual b12 at lunch, other multivitamin and Biotin at dinner. When I have to add Iron I will add it at dinner, and calcium at lunch. But I dont start those or Fiber until after 6 weeks. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk -
So both my lower arms, elbow to fingers hurt like a mofo. Painkillers don't even touch it. Tried heat pad, icy pack, elevated. I have been doing a lot of walking. The arm that had IV is worse. I have a mild fever 100.3. I don't see obvious sweeling, but I do feel like a knot right my elbow on IV arm. Is it just gas pain or something worth calling doctor.

Lower arm/wrist/hand pain
csawesome replied to csawesome's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I called, the Nurse said rotate hot and cold compresses, if fever goes up or increased swelling or turns red, go in. She said arms, especially iv can hurt from anesthesia. Yes, it's growing pains. They hurt FAR worse than any stomach pain. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk -
Surgery tomorrow!?!
csawesome replied to miss_smiles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery went quick. Haven't needed as much pain meds as I expected. Yesterday's ice chips, water, broth... everything made me feel like throw up. Doing better today, they finally took me off iv fluids. Did not enjoy getting drain removed, not one bit. Managed to shower. Still so tired Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk -
Surgery tomorrow!?!
csawesome replied to miss_smiles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is in a few hours. It was supposed to be at 7 this morning but they moved it to one pm. Bored waiting... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk -
I am having surgery on Monday. My pcp, my surgeon and team and my husband are all I have told. In fact I got annoyed that my husband told his boss and coworker that I was having it. (It came up when he asked to take a week of to help me, and his coworker is actually having surgery with my surgeon the day after). But I look at it like this, I don't tell people any other medical procedures I have had done, why is this different? If people ask me after, I will tell them honestly but before no. My kids know that I am going for some kind of surgery, but are aloof enough to not ask what kind. When ever I have mentioned it in the past, it's a flood of well meaning but silly comments. I don't have time for that. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

Easter... What the heck am I gonna do!?
csawesome replied to bigguy928's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I feel you, I will be on 48 hour Clear liquids pre-op diet for Easter (Surgery Monday morning). I plan to just stay busy, I bought some crafts and stuff to do with the kids. I figure while everyone is eating I will work on helping with dishes and things. I was a little nervous about it but I figured I am gonna have to find a way to do family holidays with a sleeve now. Oh and I plan to just be sipping my crystal light/ Water constantly, like a chain smoker, be filling my next bottle while drinking the first. You're a month out so... drink your Protein shake. Small bit of thinned potatoes (you can add some non flavored protein mix), eat a deviled egg (maybe cut the filling by half). I think you're gonna have to skip the ham and corn just yet. My goal is to find a way to have fun at parties with out eating bad choices or grazing, I am going to have to become a lot more chatty. *Easier said than done, I know. We got this! Any March 28th sleevers?
csawesome replied to gibsi90's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, I really lucked out. But when I asked why he said he found his patients were less likely to start solids early when he stopped requiring long liquid preops and he didn't notice any difference in liver size or other problems. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk -
Freaking Out...... Maybe I just won't get sleeved
csawesome replied to aprilnicole's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have >1% of serious complications from surgery or the very high percentage of obesity related complications (high bp, diabetes, heart disease, poor joints, sleep apnea, increased risks for cancer... I know you know them). While I can see being nervous if my particular surgeon had two terrible outcomes so close together, look at the over all odds for that surgeon, that hospital, the surgery in general. I personally used the excuse of knowing several people who had complications for WLS to prevent my doctors from even talking to me about it when I was still only a 40BMI. But I had one A1c that came back at 6.1, I was on the edge of weighing 300lbs. I finally said surgery could kill me, but staying this heavy WILL kill me. I get nervous from time to time, I wish I would have listened this sooner, I wish that regular diet and exercise worked for me. But then I remember all the work I have done to get here. Lost 37 pounds, went to a bazillion doctor visits, paid a bazillion co-pays, learned to how chew slowly, eat with out drinking... You did all this work, don't freak yourself out now. You got this. Any March 28th sleevers?
csawesome replied to gibsi90's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am the twenty eighth too. I have two days of Clear liquids starting Saturday and I am taking colace all this week, and Sunday I have to take two in the am and two at night. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight except a small sip to take my thyroid medication. My goal is to pack 1000x into Saturday and Sunday, because if I am busy I won't notice that I am only drinking Soup, tea and Water. My doc doesn't require a preop diet but encourages high Protein, low card foods especially the week or to before. So I did, one shake a day, protein with salad for lunch, protein with raw, non starch veggies for dinner. It was terrible the first week but so far I have lost twelve pounds (even with my monthly bloating which is usually about 3-5 pounds of water weight). This week has been smooth and it really helped with the cravings/head hunger and I have more energy. I even packed my kids easter baskets and stuffed dozens of plastic eggs for our family egg hunt, all with out being tempted to sneak any candy. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk -
Preopper question about Metformin - did you keep taking it?
csawesome replied to McButterpants's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven't had my surgery yet, and but my doc said I may be able to stop metformin, I take a very low dose, because the weight loss may help with my PCOS as fat cells mess up estrogen levels. I got at 3, 6, 9 months post op to get hormones and thyroid levels checked. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk -
Did anyone get their hair back?
csawesome replied to mythreechildren2001's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your doctor probably tested this, but anemia from heavy cycles can be harder to catch and is what was causing my "mystery" hair loss. I had anemia that didn't get resolved for almost two years, finally had to get uterine abblassion and take heavy Iron supplements three times a day for over 9 months. Lost a lot of hair. Took me about a year and half for the hair to start growing back, my temples and bang line are still thin, but better. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk -
Today flipping through some clothing sites, honestly I got a little excited that I will be able to buy regular sized, cute clothes. Husband better get a raise. How did everyone else deal with clothing as they lost weight? I already have some shirts and pants that are too small, many brand new because they were too small when I bought them but I didn't get them returned in time. I figure until I get to maintaining stage I will just a few pants, shirts and work out gear as I need them. Luckily there are some well stocked used clothing places near me as once I get into non plus sizing. But once I get to my goal weight, I plan to buy some nice clothes. I never spend money on clothes for me because I hate trying to find stuff in 2x & 3x. Oh how nice it will be to look for cute things in 8's Anyone wanna brag and post cute clothes you now fit in?

I will admit Dr. Snyder although nice makes me nervous, too much energy for one person. But so far I have really loved everyone there. I met the nurse practitioner today for my preop, Theresa, she is awesome. Also I would shout out to Rose, I went and got my preop testing today, the Nurse Pamela was so sweet. I thought I would be freaking out this close, but those two nurses today left me feeling excited. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

Can't wait to start enjoying shopping
csawesome replied to csawesome's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I plan to thift store for a while too. I did laugh about keeping your clothes ON, I am still wearing my 24 jeans that I bought just after I started this journey, they fall down all day but I am still a little too big for 22s. I feel like people much laugh when I am hiking my pants up all day. Do people lose weight evenly? I have a large belly but otherwise I am pretty evenly fat. I am wondering of I will lose evenly? My aunt had the band done last year and she lots 90% of her weight from the top, but hardly any from the bottom. She ended up getting additional surgery to remove fat from her legs. Pre-op Friends -- What did you eat today?
csawesome replied to tobysgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today was the easiest for me because I wasn't home all day. It's a lot harder when I am home to not have cravings. Frosty Protein shake, string cheese and baby carrots, two poached eggs over a bed of greens. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk -
Hi. So I will double check with my surgeon during my pre-op on Monday, but how often should I get my thyroid check after surgery? I have hashimoto's, and get my thyroid checked every 6 months assuming my labs are good and I don't feel a change in symptoms, more often when my TSH are up until they adjust meds and regulate. My question is after surgery will I need to get my thyroid levels checked more often, like after I had my children? Any idea how WLS effects (if at all) thyroid function? I assume my hypothyroid although regulated will slow my weightloss (although I am crossing my fingers I am wrong), any one with experience? Also I take metformin for PCOS not diabetes, they mentioned I might be able to get off it as sometimes PCOS hormones get a little less wacky, anyone experience that? I am not too worried about the metformin except the first week post surgery, just worried Clear liquids and only two or three hundred calories will make me feel pretty crappy on metformin. Again I will ask my surgeon, but anyone with experience? Thanks Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

Protein supplements with dairy intolerance
csawesome replied to Kittymappus's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums

Protein supplements with dairy intolerance
csawesome replied to Kittymappus's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The kind I have is made from whey but is lactose free. It has soy lecithin in it. It uses sucralose and stevie as sweetners. I don't know about FODMAP diets, so not sure if those are against it. If those sound okay I can give you more info. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk -
So I am not a Protein shake for Meal Replacement fan. I think they taste fine but I am hungry again in 20 mins. Anyhow in an effort to make them seem more filling on my preop diet I changed them up. Can someone tell me if this is a bad plan... Protein scoop (I use a chocolate one, but will try with other flavors) 3 ounces 1% milk 1.5 cups chopped ice Stick in bullet and blend until Wendy's frosty consistency, eat with a spoon. I realize it won't likely work post op as it makes my shake bigger with ice so my 4 ouce drink won't have enough protein in it but for now? Am I just reinforcing bad food habits by trying to trick my head into thinking I am getting a treat? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

Okay first one co-morbidity that might help you is... Severe arthopathy of the spine and/or weight bearing joints (when obesity prohibits appropriate surgical management of joint dysfunction treatable but for obesity. But other than that the biggest thing is 6 months of supervised diet and exercize, psych clearence, surgeon consult. Once you get everything in they approve with 2 weeks for me.
