    Post Op Low Grade Fever..Anybody??

A low grade temp is not unusual after surgery. You just need to watch for other symptoms like redness at the wound sites, congestion, increased pain or swelling. There are losts of things that can go wrong after surgery but it is very difficult to just treat a temp. If you start an antibiotic to soon you could mask something serious. Just give it another 24-48 hours it will either go up or go away. If it goes up you need to see your Dr.

    Colorado Surgeons

Surgeon Name Dr Michael Snyder Location Denver / Rose Medical Center Date of banding 4/11/08 What your surgeon closed with (sutures, glue, staples, etc) glue How many incisions 5 3 of mine were slightly larger due to previous mediacl history Type of band (if you know) I have'nt aked this yet will on my next visit I think I got a card in the hosoital but can't find it now. Overall cost of your surgery (if you wish to share) check out his web site @denverbariatrics.com And your personal review of the surgeon and his/her office and they are great several are band or bypass patients themselves. He offers a full program and support not just surgery and fill. I opted to drive from Ne because I trully believe he has a great program and if you are not successful it is because you didn't follow through with his recommendations. Most of which I'm finding through this website are much more realistic and doable then a lot of them out there. Good luck in your search.

lap band surgery with hernia in abdomen

I was banded 4/11 I have multiple hernias. One of the quite large in the upper abdomen. Some docs don't do both kinds of surgery and don't team with other surgeons to do both procedures at once. The gas will not do any futher damage and losing the wieht wil make the hernia repair much easier. I have to have mine done but I need to lose at least 100#'s first because that is part of what caused part of the proble to begin with. I'm hoping they will be able to do mine ant the same time I have PS but haven't researched that possibility. Good Luck to you.

Eat a meal in 30 min???

It only takes me about 10 mins to eat a 4 oz meal. Actually my doc says you should only take 5-15 mins to eat. Differnet docs different ways I guess. I can't imagine spending 30 mins of that amount od food.
  7. losing it in ne

    Dearz

Yes I had a very large one due to my blood thinner. It can take a couple weeks to reabsorb. My was so large they actually took some out and the wound broke open just a little and drained. You are far enough out that probably won't happen and mine was tender but squishy. Heating pads help. It's just like any other brusie just on you tummy. Hpe all goes well. Keep us posted.

48 hrs post op gas and pain

It usually takes 3-5 days and the more walk and drink the better. Gas x strips help a lot and so does either a lax or stool softner. Mostly it's walk, walk, walk. Good luck to you.
  9. call your Dr right now that could be gas but it could be something more serious considering the amount of exercise you did before. I don't mean to scare you but it could be a pulmonary emboli and that is very dangerous if not treated. Don't wait and insist you see him or go to your PCP right away.

    Christian Bandsters

I'm sorry you feel so offended but it still comes down to values and life choices. You say as long as people are kind and loving it is okay to be around them. That is also judgemental. There are lots of people out there who are non of the things but still need to be valued and loved. No Jesus did not seperate himself but he laso gave a mighty responsibility to parents or teacher of young children. Very young children are often confused by things ( not neccessarily bad ) that happen in friends homes and they don't always unstand how to handle or accept them. Many parents, christian and otherwise choose to protect their children until they are a little older and have had more teaching as well as wisdom to make hopefully better choices when confronted with things that are not a part of thier family values. At some point they must choose for themselves how they will belives but we as parents all try to give the a good basis and foundation for that. Do I personally think that plying ball with another 4yr old would be detremental, no. I think part of the problem may be in your feelings about their relationship as a christian couple. Many women choose to be the submisssive wife in a loving chiristian relationship. A lot of women even christian women have a very hard time with this concept. Largely because society tells us that we should but If you havea trully Christ centered marriage, the love and respect from you husband far out weighs what you see as control. The Bible says a husband should love his wife as his own body. I hope that you and she can continue to be friends but I suspect until you let this opinion go and allow it to be ok with you that she has choosen this for her marriage that you wil always have some resistance from her husband, and therefore from her. I wish you the best and hope that you can accept her choice.

    Left-overs

Instead of rehaeating ahve you tried using them cold. I pulse meat just breifly in the food processor with pickle and onion for a meat salad. Add a little dressing if you like. I also use the coarsely ground meats for omlets also. Chicken, cheese &salsa makes a great omlet

    Ack My Pannus!

Definitely complain to the Dr to get that ball rolling but having a large Pannus for a lot of years now the best I've found is a cream stick anti persiperant. Not stick spray or gels. I specificlly use Degree. It goes on drier then the others but keeps the rash away especially in the heat. Shhhhhh my secret don't tell the insurance co. cause I plan to have mine done when I lose the weight. If you are really raw it may sting just alittle but it will clear you right up. Hope this helps and good luck.

    What to do until fill????

I was banded 4/11 but my doc I guess does things alittle differently. I am on what they call the soft phase but that just means the food has to be mashable with a fork. I eat about every 3=4 hours and it is suppose to be at least 85% protien. My snack just now was deli turkey and turkey pepperoni. I have not been hungry at all. I think the protien really helps that. Good luck to all of you who have to endure the long pre-op & post op diets. I don't get a fill until the end of May but unless things change a lot I think I'll be ok

    Question about Crakers

My doc recommends a baked whole grain cracker like wheat thins. I have tried them and didn't have any problems but remember only 2-3 as the calories & carb add up quickly.

    Some people, I swear...

I have been following this for a while now and to be honest I have no doubt this guy has some very real issues. Anyone who read the band book should know that. His current doc seems unprofessional and somewhat unethical to me. Trully I htink he is enjoying all the attention he is getting here. Head hunter I think you have made a poor choice in using this forum to air your anger but so be it. I'm trullly sorry for all your complications and wish you well but for me this has absolutely been the right choice, risks and all. After 9 bowel surgeries in 6 years I have a few. Best luck to you but I refuse to assuage your anger so I won't post here again. Life sucks sometimes, get yourself a good therarpist you are going to need it to even be moderately healthy or happy with all the anger you have. Again good luck to you.

    What do I do NOW?!

self -pay or ins has nothing to do with anything but that attirude said it all. You might condider a good nutritionist and a group or therapist. Ask your doc for the type of diet you will have after surgery as well. Fortunately mine us very sppecific and offer some nutrition classes. After this 'mushy' phase basiclyy high quality protien 75% and 25 % carbs eating every 3-4 hours no more then 4ozs. Starting to lose the sugars and cutting back on the carbs will help you feel better and adjust quicker. Head hunger is a very real thing and you need to start to recognize that and when you are just full and not beyond. For a lot of us these are very difficult challenges but being aware of them and having strategies to deal with them will help. The band is only a tool for you to use kit does not controll what you put in your mouth. Only you can do that. I was banded 4/11 and I had made up my mind that I am going to be successful and I had done a lot of work about the emotional factors of why I eat and so forth. It has been a long and painful journey but I am so glad I had already decided things like if I want I candy bar it's ok instead of the 2 lbs of choc I woukd have hidden and eatten. Even now nothing is forbidden but it is how much and how often I eat them. Sorry for going on and on but I hope this helps you in this journey you have chosen to improve your life. Good luck to you and keep posting.

    Seeking a battle buddy...

Erika, My prayers are for you. I was banded on 4/11 and though I had a good idea of what to expect the pain inthe port area is more then I thought it would be. As to the other I find it interesting that this seems to be the one area that christians think can be handled by prayer and strenght alone. We don't ask people with depression to give up their meds or people with other illness to not go to doctors and be treated. I do believe God expects us to rely on him to help us to overcome the head games we play with ourselves. The devil uses many guies to convince us that what we are doing is not God's will. If you prayed about this and trully felt it was okay then I believe it is. If God really didn't want you have this surgery he certianly could have put many obstacles in your way. I know he did mine and then everything just flew together so fast I believe only God could have done it. Don't let your guilt be another barrier between you and God. I know things will improve with time and you just need to keep praying and seeking what God has for you.

My weight loss is hurting my sister

Coming from a family of 8 siblings I'm sure this is really hard. If you don't talk to her about she will be just as hurt as now and it will put as big a breach in your relationship. Maybe you just need to have a real heart to heart about your fear of losing her along with the weight. Even if you don't talk it will stand between you. I'm sure she probably thinks that the new 'skinny' you won't have time for her anymore. Any one who has been overweight for very much of there lives learns pretty quickly that peoples opinions of us are based largely on our weight and not on who we really are. Talk to her even if you need to make a trip and do it face to face, you both will be so much happier if you do. Good luck to you and I hope all goes well for you.

All you people do is complain...

MY MY MY!!! For some one so young you certianly seem to know a lot about how everyone else should live. I don't see when you were banded to be able to add anything useful to this website. Maybe you should take a little of your own advice. It's not like you are forced to read all of this. Get a good therapist you are going to need it with your attitude.

    Is this true????

wow that really does sound scary but fortunately not all truth. Yes the band can slip but it doesn't happen often. Even with the RNY you can eat the wrong things and create a whole other set of problems. Reseach this on the net You'll find out that mal-nutrishion is the most common problem with RNY. Seriously would you want someone to cut into you bowel just so you can eat whatever you want. Not me!!! I have had to have bowel surgeries for other reasons and let me tell the complications are no fun. That is exactly why I have chosen the band. Actually the statistics say that bander and Rny'ers after 3 yr have less then a 5% weight loss difference and success rate. I'm in this for the long haul and you sound young so think about the long term effect of a factual condition, Mal-nutrition. Personally I think you made the right choice. Make a commitment to yourself to be trully healthy with the least amount of invasion as possible. Good luck to you I go in on 4/10 and I can't wait.

    slow chewing

This is very interesting my doc says it should only take 10-15 min to eat since you only have 4oz or less of food. He also says that by eating over a long period you eat more then you should because the pouch starts to empty. They also day to chew chew chew. I'm not banded yet but I really can't imagine taking and hour to eat 4oz even chewing well. They also teach us not to put anything larger then our pinky nails in our mouths. Which should help with laying down your fork after every bite. I wish you lots of luck I am 10 days and counting down to my date.
  22. Were you a soda/coffee drinker? If so you probably have a caffine headsche that will go away soon. Have you tried Isopure? Most protien products are whey base. Look for some soy or even rice protien pwd. The Isopure is available at gnc and have fruit based flavors as well. it is still whey protien but does not look or smell like milk. Good luck to you I hope you find something you like.
  23. Hi I see youare from NE also. I am so excited to be getting ths done. I hope all has gone well for you. I am having my surgery in Denver as I live in western Ne. Keep me posted on how it is going. I am a 9 days and counting for my big day.

  24. Psyyllium husk are a great way to stay soft if you drink enough. but can add to constipation is you don't. Try a stool softner like Docusate Sodium in addition to the Psyllium for a while. Trully you need to drink lots of water. I have diverticula and have had 2 perforated bowels so I have to be very careful not to become constipated and this has worked really well. Laxitives are helpful once in a while but can be very bad for you if used regularly. Pain meds will make you constipated for sure get rid of them and use the tylenol if you really need something. It sounds to me like you have never really experience normal bm's if you have always had diareha. As you have more "normal" stool your colon will adjust to the pressure and the pain should lessen some. If not you really need to talk to a doc about this. Good luck to you.

255 lbs to lose. Can it be done?

Boy am I happy to find this. I get my band 4/10 and whatever i lose will make me heathier them I am now. Biggest fear was not beingable to lose all of the now 210#'s. Refused by my insure because I was to "fat" for the banded and not medically a candidated for the RNY Imanaged to lose 18#'s on my own. Insurance lifted the upper limit and now I'm scheduled for 4/10. But I trully wondered if it was really possible to lose 200+. Is anyone else afraid of what being "skinny" will be like. Honestly Ihave always been overweight and it scares the dickens out of me. Will I be different? How will other people treat me? Gosh the list goes on and on. I'm going to do this. Ihave to do this but my mind just keeps going to that one subject all the time. :confused2:
