Working until Midnight and HUNGRY after 8:00pm
MacMadame replied to LundyLane's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
When do you have Breakfast? There is nothing wrong with having a snack at night, IMO. If eating a small snack, that you plan for and account for the calories, at 8 or 9pm keeps you from going nuts at midnight, it's all good, IMO. Or maybe you could shift your meals around so you are eating dinner later? -
My biggest concern is the running. I'm doing the Couch-to-5K so that should help, but I have to do it a lot more than the bike because I'm playing catch up. I decided not to get the clip/shoe thingie for my first tri. I didn't want to deal with changing shoes and stuff. But I have a few more months to change my mind.

15 min. calibrating my Nike+ (I had to do the walk part two times because I messed up the first time.) It took me .75 miles! 30 min. of Couch-to-5K week V, Day II.

Do I have to do anything besides make an account? Because I just did that. So does that mean I'm set up? And will the run I did today count?!?!?!

Need Help @ answers

Welcome to LapBandTalk! I'm guessing by your name, you are a guy. There is a "Mens Room" section on the board just for guys. Be sure to check it out as this journey is different for guys sometimes. -
You sound a lot like me when I started looking into WLS. Around the same BMI and weight (so I bet you are short like me!) and on BP meds. I have been off my meds since my surgery and my BP is good. I did freak out a bit off and on after I got my date, but I knew in my head this was the right thing to do.

7 months and still going

Welcome to LapBandTalk! -
Welcome to LapBandTalk! Have you talked to your doctor about the fact that everything makes you sick? They should have good suggestions and also they will be able to tell if it's something serious. For example, you may just need to eat slower but you may need some of your fill taken out. That's not something we can tell here.

I am going to the information session tomorrow...

Welcome to LapBandTalk! I'm not familiar with that program but if you ask in the "Doctors & Hospitals" section, someone else might. The seminars often start with a canned presentation about obesity and the various procedures that the center offers and then have questions and answers. Sometimes they have patients who've already had surgery there to help answer questions. -
Welcome to LapBandTalk! That's interesting that your insurance accepts Jenny Craig.
-
Welcome to LapBandTalk! If no one who used WLSC pipes up, try doing a search and also looking in the "Doctors & Hospitals" section.

Hi Sandy! It's okay to ask things that have been asked before. We old-timers understand. :tongue2: But I will also say that one of the most valuable things I did was to go to all the different subsections and read all the old posts. Doing that gave me ideas of questions to ask that I didn't even know I had! So for questions about the process in Canada, I would go to the Canada section and the Doctors & Hospitals section and the Insurance section first. Good luck!

My surgeon's practice says "thin" liquids and I can kind of see that. Some of the stuff you can eat during the "full" liquid phase doesn't seem very liquidity to me. But they also say "anything that can go up a straw" and you can make a lot go up a straw. :tongue2:

I think how much pumpkin you taste is a function of the protein powder you use. I'm going to try a different brand in the chocolate ones and see how that goes.
-
Now see that's a prime example of what I was talking about in that other "I don't get it" thread. According to the ASMBS's nutrition committee's report, there really isn't scientific support for being on a 100% clear liquid diet after surgery. This is why many surgeons let their patients have protein drinks during the liquids phase. So the OP wasn't asking to do anything particularly unreasonable at all. I'll get you for stretching out my screen... and your little dog too! :tongue2:

Should prostitution be legal?
MacMadame replied to Carrie_C's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I can't get over how some people think a business transaction between consenting adults is a moral issue. :tongue2: -
Our gym was PACKED today. Our Pilates class last week had a ton of people too and it wasn't even 2009. In fact, half the company took the week off.

Yeah! And don't let the jealous bitches chase you away! The last time I was in there, it was pretty boring. Oh, I see pettygreen is running rampant. Well, I bet she isn't going to like what I had to say. :shuffling feet: I swear I was nowhere near her bedroom last night!! Plus they have nasty stingers and things that can get you, if you aren't careful. Kick him to the curb! There's a reason you told him to leave and that reason hasn't changed.

I love the whole attitude that when women do these things, THEY are sinning and MUST BE PUNISHED. What about the guys? They are the ones PAYING TO HAVE SEX! Many of them are married too so they are commiting adultry. But, hey, they are guys, so I guess that's okay and they can even mistreat the people they are paying and that's okay too ... those nasty sinning women have to be punished after all! -
I was out 1.5 weeks. Lots of people go back at 1 week. It's a slightly longer op than the band so I think it takes a few more days to recover than a band. Pain and gas and all that are very similar -- which is to say it varies quite a bit but mostly it's a lap operation so it's not bad. The diet is similar too. You start with liquids and progress slowly to solids. There are some big differences in the quanity and hunger though: -With the sleeve you are swollen and so immediately post-op you can't eat very large quanities at all -You may have hunger in the first couple of weeks but at some point as things heal up you will have little interest in food -Over time, the swelling goes down and also the stomach tissue relaxes and you can slowly eat more and more until you get to your max amount. -The max amount at one time you can eat will vary based on what you eat and how long your stomach is but for most people it's at least 4-5 oz. but not much more than that -Over time your interest in food may come back. For some this happens in terms of months but some take years and some never really are interested in food ever again I contrast this with the band where some people are swollen at first but most can eat whatever they want and have no restriction and are hungry but over time they get more restriction and can eat less and aren't as hungry. We may end up in the same place at the end but we approach it from different ends.

Hey, I was given a new recipe: banana Surprise Muffins Preheat oven to 350 degrees -15 oz container of LF Ricotta Cheese -8 oz package of LF Cream cheese (you will need an additional 4 oz of LF cream cheese for the surprise part) -1/2 c. Soy milk (I used Vanilla) -1/2 c. Splenda -1/2 c. Egg Beaters (or 2 eggs) -1 tsp of Vanilla -3 servings of your favorite flavor Protein powder (Of course I used Chike Banana) -1/4 c. whole wheat flour Mix together all ingredients (except the extra 4 oz of LF cream cheese) in a mixing bowl. Pour into greased muffin tins - I made 12 and I could have made 3 more but I just tossed the excess batter - however the stats below are based on the full 15 for accuracy reasons (if that makes sense). Cut the other 4 oz of LF cream cheese into 12 equally sized cubes and push down into the middle of each muffin (optional). Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. I haven't made these but they sound divine!

Plastic Surgery Terms for Weight Loss Patients
MacMadame replied to New Hope's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
It's an urban legend. For thing thing, typically cadaver skin is used for burn victims. Our skin is not appropriate for that use. How do i donate skin to the burn centers? - Yahoo! Answers Contact Us - Donating Skin after Gastric Bypass Surgery - Saint Barnabas Health Care System There is one place that says they are collecting donated skin after PS but you still have to pay for the PS yourself and they don't use it for burn victims but for other surgeries. melting mama - life after weight loss surgery: Donating excess skin? It's actually illegal to pay for your PS because of the Organ Donor Act which says you can't be paid for organs (skin is an organ). -
Looking to the future and excess skin concerns

Exactly! No one should have to take their pants apart and re-sew them if there are alternatives. -
On the one hand, I get mad when someone says "I had waffles at 3 days out, is that okay" and someone else says "I did it and I was fine". But OTOH sometimes the doctors do give out bad information or they have a lot of arbitrary rules that science doesn't support. Like never eating coconut again or not drinking from straws or not taking the right Vitamins. So what do you do then? I have a friend who was told to get *no more* than 40 g of Protein a day in the first 6 months after a bypass. This is HORRIBLE advice. She posted it on the boards and was set straight. What if no one had been willing to say "don't listen to your NUT; she's wrong!" ?

They pick up all but the big stuff (the stuff you can just pick up with your hands anyway) and they are very handy when you have too much to do and a lot of rooms to do. You set it up in one room while you are dealing with mess in the other or some other chores. However, I do think they tend to be fragile. We are on our 3 or 4th one though I believe the company replaced one of them for free. The problem is that they tend to fall down the stairs. They aren't supposed to and there are ways to prevent it, but it still happens. They also get stuck under certain furniture -- stuff that is high enough the "don't go there sensor" doesn't trip but not high enough for it to really fit. But they get better all the time and they are really, really convenient so we don't care. My Facebook account is not really personal. I have lots of people from work on there and am careful not to say anything I don't want the world to know about.
