Welcome to LapBandTalk! I think the Post-op Support section would be a great place to ask your questions, if you don't get a good response here. We also have an Exercise & Fitness section and a Nutrition section. -

Best Surgeon around Whittier, CA
MacMadame replied to cathisings's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome to LapBandTalk! I'm 51 and from CA too. But NorCal. I agree about the support groups. I love mine and it really helps. -
Welcome to LapBandTalk! I think you will get more response from long-timers if you post in the General Lap-Band Support section. There aren't a lot of long-timers who hang out in the "Intros" section.

I have Champion sports bras. They come in different support levels and I went for MAXIMUM! This is my last day of week 6 of Couch-to-5K. From this point on, it's just straight running. 25 min. each day next week and then add on about 10% each week. So I'm going to ditch the tapes with their horrible music and just use the Nike+ training instead.

45 min. on treadmill. Ran about 30 of it. Got to 3.1 mi (5k). I've decided I'm always going to travel 5K every time I run even if I have to walk part of it.

We're supposed to do a 45-60 min wait. I was planning to ask my surgeon why at the next support meeting. -

Hey, Shelley... that link goes to Wade Barker, the photographer (who, in one of those "small world" internet things, I happen to know). Here's the link for the bariatric surgeon: Weight Loss Surgery - Bariatric Surgeon - Dallas, Texas - Wade Barker -
Should people barely over 200 lbs or below 200 get Lapband or any WLS...?
MacMadame replied to Froggi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well if your BMI is 30, you are obese so it's more morbid obesity prevention. I definitely see that attitude sometimes... as if only so many surgeries can be performed so if you get one, that means someone "more deserving" can't get one. Of course, it doesn't work like that at all. Btw, one of the places I post is the Lightweights board at ObesityHelp.com. Everyone there started with a BMI of 40-ish or less and there is no judgement about why you want surgery. You guys should come by and check us out. When I look in the mirror, I see myself as at about 135 lb. :yikes: So it wasn't vanity for me. It's more an example of how the BMI charts are limited. Whenever I go over 200 lb. I am miserable physically, but the charts say I'm not MO until I'm I am 212 or higher. Btw, this is what I looked like at my hightest weight: IMG_1180.JPG (image) IMG_0064.jpg (image) Now look at those pictures and tell me with a straight face that the person in there hasn't got a serious weight problem and just needs to cut out the soda (which I didn't drink, btw). -
I remember going to school when it snowed. But I also remember school being cancelled because it was going to snow and it didn't and it was still cancelled. And if complaining that it's cold when it drops below 60 means you are living in the South, then I guess California is in the South! :yikes:

Will insurance pay for fills and not WLS?
MacMadame replied to work_in_progress's topic in Insurance & Financing
I think it would depend on how it was coded. I was looking at one place and they said they code fills as an office visit so they are always covered. But I've definitely heard of insurance companies paying for band surgery and not fills way more often than that. -
I think it's weird because it's too personal.

Well, bless their hearts. I think plain (and Texas) have been pwned.

Help to pick one- Dr. Huacuz or Dr. Gillermo Alvarez or the Dr.'s @ Obesity Goodbye
MacMadame replied to cajunmomma's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Huacuz has a horrible reputation. He really botched a sleeve on a friend of mine and did everything in his power to keep her at his clinic as she got worse and worse and he made mistake after mistake. Finally, her husband dragged her to San Diego where she was in the hospital forever and told she would have died if she has stayed in Mexico one more day. Please, please do not go to him. -
Because it's western. It is south geographically since it's at the bottom of the country, but it's also in the Western part of the country and culturally it has more in common with Wyoming than with Georgia. In fact, leaving a car running while unattended is dangerous. It's not criminal, but it's still worth a ticket in my book. It's on the same order as speeding, not wearing a bike helmet or not buckling your seat belt. It's because it's code. The whole idea is that you aren't supopsed to realize you've been insulted. I don't criticize her for not having surgery either. I do criticize her for presenting such a biased view of it and for subtly criticizing those who have had it.
