Yes and no... a little bit can help, but it's mostly just postponing the inevitable. Good bun, er pun.

What about immediate post op recovery
MacMadame replied to neworleanslady's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My husband took a few days off but it was a "just in case" thing. I could have survived without him. You won't be able to pick up your 4 year old for a while though. So that's something to consider. -
Ha! That's great. I really am not a fan of the Wii Fit and this video highlights some of the reasons.

Eh, it may be warm here but it's also raining. No bike ride for me tomorrow. :scared2:
-
47 min. treadmill. Walk 5, ran 25, walk 5, run 8, walk 4.
-
I ran 47 min today and I ran for 35 of it and got the whole 5k in.

Welcome to LapBandTalk. You might want to check out the Complications section to find other people with port problems. This section has mostly pre-ops. :scared2:

Welcome to LapBandTalk! That's around my goal weight too. I'm almost there but I think the last 20 lb. is going to come off pretty slowly.

Pain and discomfort during the intercourse
MacMadame replied to Suzette's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You need to talk to your surgeon. -
I think you meant to say if the band is not positioned properly you will be hungry. Or maybe if the band is positioned properly you won't be hungry. You also need restriction though. The nerves on the stomach work by responding to the pouch expanding. If the stoma formed by the band is too large (due to lack of restriction), the food doesn't sit in the pouch long enough and so you don't get that full feeling. This is why many bandsters report being extremely hungry in the early days. They are in what we call "Bandster Hell" where they haven't got restriction but are supposed to limit calories. Once you start to get restriction, it all comes together and the band works to curb hunger and let you lose weight.

OKay, I had to jump ahead so I've missed a bunch of posts. I just can't keep up and work is crazy.

Sat. is my bike riding day but it's supposed to rain.

Price Negotiation$ Self Pay
MacMadame replied to kimberly150's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
A friend of mine negotiated with her surgeon and hospital to get a better price for her sleeve. She had done some research and found their prices were much higher than others in the area and even higher than in places with a much higher CoL. I have noticed the prices for bariatric surgery vary wildly and you don't always get what you pay for. It pays to shop around and it pays to negotiate if you like your surgeon but think the price is out of line with his or her peers. -
If it makes you feel better, my surgeon says he's never had a case where the band filled up without the person getting restriction. He's done over a thousand bands too so he has a lot of experience. From what I've seen on LBT, once you get close, even a small amount can give major restriction.

Tonight is Support Group Night. I'm not here and everyone shuts up.

Your friend is a doofus. For one thing, it takes 3500 calories more expended than put in to lose a pound. I go to the gym 4-6x a week and expend around 300 calories each time. So to lose 100 lb., would take about 4.5 years -- give or take. This is assuming that all that working out didn't make me hungrier so I just ate more. The piece that your friend is missing is that WLS allows you to be satisfied on much less food. When we go on a diet without it and eat around 1200 calories a day, we are hungry all the time. People can do that for a short time, but very few can do it forever. But with WLS, a smaller amount of calories feels perfectly reasonable so eating like that forever is completely doable.

45 min. on treadmill. Ran 35 of it and got in 3.1 mi. (Yeah, I'm slow. So sue me. )

I like to lift weights but it tightens up my muscles and I like to be flexible. So now I do Pilates instead.

I'm a big believer in being as healthy as you can be at the weight you are at. There are unhealthy skinny people because they don't eat right or exercise. It is possible if you line up two people, one obese and one not, and gauged their health that the obese person would beat out the skinny person. This is one reason why I have always exercised even when morbidly obese. I also try to make healthy food choices at whatever weight I am. I know that I am healthier now at a lower weight than I was at a higher weight, but that doesn't mean everyone at a lower weight than me is automatically healthier than I am. Some are and some are not. -
Awesome, you need to celebrate! Also, awesome! You need to kick some butt with them. (Well, not kick exactly.) I love postsecret. Some of them are very touching and some are funny. They aren't all disturbing. Better than I am, I'm afraid. But what are they good for then? Well, you shouldn't have gotten them that DS, then.

45 min, 3.08 mi. Walk-ran as follows: 5, 25, 6, 5, 5 (Yeah, I know that adds up to 46. )

I don't think we have them here... I'm going to a clinic where I can get fitted with shoes. Dh will not be happy as I just bought a pair of Under Armour cross-trainers and they are very new. But my knees are killing me and I think it's the shoes.

You need to find something you love to do that involves moving your body. Like dancing. Or ice skating. Or join an intramural league (volleyball and basketball are in season as is indoor soccer). Once you find something you love to do, then the movement and commitment will follow.

I started on Week 7 but sans the tapes. Oh, it was so nice to listen to Oingo Boingo when I ran! I didn't quite get 3.1 miles into my 45 (actually 46 minutes) either. Bummer.
