  1. Hee. She probably is pissed, too. You do know there are male pros, too, right?
  2. That's cool. I was just curious.

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

Well mine sure isn't! It tells me Mini-mac, a normal-weighted 10 year old has 34% body fat! It tells me that mine is about 40% but I think it's more like 34% based on using other, more accurate scales.

    A Question for Runners

I started running pretty soon out of surgery. I can't remember exactly when. I was back at the gym at around 2 weeks but still doing the stationary bike at that point. But eventually I answered the treadmill's call. There are people who decide to do triathlons at over 200 pounds so I wouldn't let weight stop you. Just start now and go slowly.

    Does anyone have regrets?

You might want to check out the Complications forum. That's where the people with regrets tend to hang out.
  6. Welcome to LapBandTalk! There are two good places to find a buddy. One is the Virginia subforum and the other is the LapBand Buddy section.

    Anyone From Sacramento?

Nope. I've seen people be successful with them all and regain (or never lose it all) with them all.

I hate it when people post just to post.....

It can't hurt, but the spasms it causes are too mild to trigger labor unless you are someone on bed-rest because you keep going into contractions early. I know plenty of people who tried it and it didn't do anything. It's just one of those thing where if you do it and the baby comes soon after, people say "it worked" but the baby was probably coming anyway. I don't agree. I worked for every pound, the ones before my surgery and the ones after. The surgery didn't *make* me lose those pounds. I did by controlling what I put in my mouth and by how much I moved my body

    So...SO Pissed at my mother.

Maybe you could suggest non-food gifts your mom could bring. Like a coloring book they could work on together than only gets worked on when your mom is there. Or playing a game together like backgammon or Pictionary that would be their special thing.
  11. I was just wondering if you lived in Europe so it was close or if you came all the way from the US just to use this doc. I have a sleeve and I was really lucky. One of the pioneers of the sleeve is right in my backyard!

    January 2009 Exercise Challenge

Bike, 12.5 miles in the wind and rain. Because bikers are NUTS!
  14. I like taking a break in the late afternoon (I work out at work.) and I like doing it later in the evening and going home and collapsing. On the weekends, I ride my bike after lunch because that's the best time of day where I am - it's warmed up from the night before, but the afternoon winds haven't picked up yet.

That was interesting but everything else I've read says that bio-empedience is more accurate than calipers.

    Another Canadian from Ontario

Welcome to LapBandTalk! I'm from California, so I can't help you with your information Quest. We do have a section just for people from Canada though and I know at least some people have gotten OHIP to pay so it would be worth asking in that subforum.
  18. Welcome to LapBandTalk! I gather you aren't from Italy. What made you decide to go there for your surgery?

    Actually did it!

Welcome to LapBandTalk! Walk, walk, walk. Not only does it prevent blood clots, but it helps break up the gas. Gas-X strips help too.

    So...SO Pissed at my mother.

I agree with heartfire that you have to get tough with your mom. But I don't agree that you should explain your position. All that does is send the message that your position is up for discussion, when it's not. Also, I'm sure she knows all those things. She obviously thinks that you are wrong and that she is right. So what you have to tell her is that YOU are the mom and your rules go in your house whether she agrees with them or not. And definitely don't blame your daughter. She's between a rock and a hard place here with two adult fighting and her in the middle.

What about immediate post op recovery

I realized no one answered this question..... In the beginning, when your stomach is healing, it's really hard to judge -- at least it was for me. So I measured things out and I tried to eat really slowly. If you take 30 min. to eat your 1-2 oz. like you are supposed to, it would probably be okay. I had trouble doing that and so I would frequently take "one bite too many". When that happens, you get a pain in your breastbone area. It's a pressure. Sometimes I would barf a bit back up, but sometimes I couldn't stop and I'd end up barfing it *all* back up. I thought this was not a good trend so I started working harder at eating slower and stopping sooner. In the meantime, as my stomach healed, I started getting a much stronger sense of when I was full. So now if I eat to fullness (uncomfortable, but not painful pressure) instead of to satiety (comfortable and no pressure), it's usually knowingly... as in whatever is driving me to finish my plate or eat one more bite is just stronger than the voice that says I'm going to be sorry. Which highlights an important point. You will hear this over and over "they operate on your stomach, not your head." I am not a big emotional eater, yet I still have times when I want to eat stuff my head is telling me is a bad idea. Mostly it's about finishing everything on my plate. It's just an ingrained habit. Sometimes it's about enjoying the food though. The food tastes good and I just. want. it. So if you have emotional eating issues, be prepared to work on them pre- and post-op and, even if you don't really, be prepared to find out that -- like all humans -- you don't always eat just to satisfy hunger.

Naw, but I'm not in last place and that's my current only goal. I only run 3x a week so I really can't keep up with the rest of you guys.
  23. It's definitely restriction. Whether or not you've found your "sweet spot" depends on whether the restriction is what you want -- it could be too much or too little or just right -- and whether being this restricted controls your hunger adequately.

Welcome to LapBandTalk. If you don't get an answer here, I would try again in the UK section: United Kingdom Local Lap-Band Support - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum Your odds that someone who has used your surgeon will see your message are higher there.
