Purdue has one and there is one in Indianapolis. I can't remember where Bend is. Okay, I just did a Google. Ask and ye shall receive: Triple Threat Triathlon Team It's in South Bend. There is also one in South Wayne. I was sued in Fort Wayne once.

Hey, how long did it take you to get to 4 miles? I have to be there by mid-April and I'm a bit worried it's going to take me too long.

I joined a Tri club! They have all these coached workouts every week and the yearly dues are only $65. Tonight I went to the track workout. Tomorrow I'm going to do the swim workout. Sat. is supposed to be something called "New to the Sport" which is often biking, but sometimes running and sometimes bricks, plus they talk about training strategies and how to handle transitions and stuff.
-
I did a coached workout at the track. We ran "ladders" and then stretched. I did okay on the stretching and the stuff that required all over and arm strength, but not the part that required leg strength. Hmm.
-
I did intervals at the track today! I want to finish week 9 though so I am going to run on Thurs or Fri. for 30 min. and see what happens. (Tomorrow is swim class.)

I agree with Jachut that a lot of gym trainers are worthless. But I am not confident (or educated) enough to do it myself. So I joined a triathlon club and now I'm participating in coached workouts. I had my first one tonight. We did intervals at the track. Tomorrow I'll do drills in the pool with the swim coach. Sat. I'll do a coached bike ride.

January 21st Bandster 2009
MacMadame replied to rorochef's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome to LapBandTalk! My understanding is that lots of people are hungry at this point. It gets better as you get restriction though. -
Welcome to LapBandTalk! Let us know how the surgery goes.

I can tell you that my surgeon has done over a thousand sleeves and hardly anyone has come back to convert to a DS. Something like two people. I've seen it a few times on the VSG board on OH as well. But again, we're talking about a handful of people out of thousands. These are generally SMO people and often they can't exercise as much as is recommended for health reason or maybe they have some kind of metabolic illness that slows their weight loss down. Also, statistically, the higher your BMI is, the harder it is for any surgery to get you to a normal weight, but particularly the band. Lots of surgeons will try to talk you out of a band with a BMI over 55. It's not that they don't work for anyone at that weight -- I know someone who lost 200 lb. with a band -- but the odds are not in your favor and the surgeon will tell you that and, often, try to talk you into a different surgery type.

Okay, I am now up-to-date on Susan's toes. Um, I'm sort of sorry I asked. But I feel for you having to get your bones broken just to fix a problem.

Old Band out -- New Realize Band In
MacMadame replied to alicat3924's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Okay, so now that rockbandster has been outed, can we get back to the original topic... I feel sorry for alicat who asked a very simple question and really didn't get much of an answer. -
What is the max fill in a 9cc realize band
MacMadame replied to noosagirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've been on these boards a long time and on other boards as well and I've *never* seen an insurance company even ask how much fill you have in your band, let alone care. Plus Allergen (lap-bands) bands get overfilled just as much as Realize bands. Which is to say -- not that much. -
I haven't decided but I'm thinking I'll at least bike in a sports bra but wear tri shorts on the bottom. You can get used bikes pretty cheaply. I didn't do that because buying used takes up time and time is something I haven't got much of. But you can get an amazing bike for less than $400 if you are willing to look around.

I'm letting Renewed down in the team challenge. I didn't run today. But I'm going tomorrow even though I normally don't run on Tues. Actually after this week, my schedule is going to be all messed up so hopefully it doesn't matter.
-
I haven't exercised yet this month. Sigh. Today it was my stupid job. But tomorrow I'm going to my new Triathlon Club's interval training at the track. So I can get "back on track". Hee.

When did you start exercising (weights, core, cycling)?
MacMadame replied to 123008's topic in Fitness & Exercise
They all have different answers so I can only tell you what I was told. I was okayed to go back to the gym at 2 weeks. I was doing the stationary bike at that time. -
Do you mean a physical? I got mine from my PCP to certify I was healthy enough for bariatric surgery. If you mean something else, then I am as confused as you are.
-
Aaarrrggghhh! I'm in agony here at such blasphemy. Susan... I guess I missed something.. what is wrong with your foot? Whenever I've been laid off, my benefits were continued until the end of the month. I've always understood that they have to be paid in month increments so the company saves so money by cutting them off early. Is it possible someone is pulling a fast one on you, Brandy?

Any feb.16 '09 banders
MacMadame replied to mrsteacher's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You are so lucky not to have to do a liquid diet! Have you found the Feb. '09 section yet? I bet you'll find someone with a 2/16 date there, if you haven't found one already. -
Gaining weight after banding and looking for a lap band meeting in Sacramento
MacMadame replied to Jeanne E's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It happens. More people stall at that point than gain weight, but I'm including people with different surgery types in there. I think it's harder with a band because you are trying to lose without restriction at this point. For support groups, try the hospital you had your surgery at. I know the hospital I go to for my surgeon's support group meetings also runs a lap-band only support group for anyone no matter who their surgeon is so maybe your hospital does too. Personally I prefer my surgeon's support groups because he leads them and I like having the contact with him and also getting answers from the horse's mouth so to speak. Does Dr. Waldrep lead his support groups? -
I sure did! Liquid in, Liquid out!

My first is in April. I started training in Nov/Dec. I have training plans that go for 12 and 16 weeks but they aren't practical for me. So I worked out my own. In Dec. I concentrated on learning about the sport and trying out the 3 parts and getting equipment, like a bike. I worked out, but not regularly due to the holidays. In Jan, I worked on building up all the distances. I can now swim the distance plus 100 yards and I can bike the distance. I can't run the whole distance yet though. So I'm behind in that. Once I get the distances, I'm going to work on increasing my speed. I think if the tri were held today, I'd take at least 3 hours to complete and I'd like to do it in under that time. I'm checking out a tri club tomorrow and they have coached workouts. I think that will help me. I'll do intervals on Tues., Masters Swim on Wed. and "New to the Sport" which are coached bike rides and runs on Sat. Then the rest of the week, I'll do my running and biking in the gym. I'll do that for two months and then I'll start tapering for the race in mid-April.

I wasn't but I was at the grocery store.

It's a video game that comes with a "balance board". The board weighs you to figure out your bmi and also can measure your balance. The cardio stuff, imo, is pretty lame and rarely rises to the level of true cardio. My family likes the strength training and yoga stuff though. The cool thing about it is that once you get the balance board, there are other games you can buy that use it. The scale is supposed to be the most accurate one a consumer can buy.

Amen. Also, look at % of excess weight loss, not absolute pounds. The absolute pounds will be impacted by how much you have to lose so I can lose 5 lb. and someone else can lose 10 lb. but we can both have lost the percentage of excess weight.
