Welcome to LapBandTalk! I'm from CA but not that area in particular. There is a section here for each state though so come by the CA section ... there are plenty of people from the Inland Empire there.

Whoever told you this is mistaken. Not only will a lap-band not help with bulimia, but it might make it worse as, any time you eat too fast or don't chew well enough, you will probably barf. There are plenty of people on this site who keep their bands too tight and so have what I think of as "band-induced bulimia." Also, when you go for the pysch eval, you will probably not pass as bulimia (and other EDs) is considered a red flag.

Just starting and concerned about insurance, etc.
MacMadame replied to blondediva8's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The NIH guidelines say you are qualified for WLS if your BMI is over 40. Yours is 41.5 so you should be fine unless you have one of the few insurances that doesn't follow that guidelines. I would be careful not to lose enough weight to drop under a BMI of 40 though. Some insurances will go with your initial weight at your surgical consult but some are kind of crappy about it and will deny you. -
I loved Forgetting Sarah Marshall too. This movie seems to have a similar vibe.

IMO laundry is a man's job! Mr. Mac does it at our house. Hmm. Interesting. I had one too. Now I don't and I also don't crave sweets. But I think it's because I don't eat a lot of carbs. You send them out to the laundry? Actually, I have no shirts that need crisp creases. Also, if they are part of a suit, the sleeves get covered anyway.

Jason Segel is awesome in pretty much anything he does. I'm sure I'll love that movie. If I ever get to see it. Sigh.

Well, I've foamed like a rabid dog. :rolleyes2: But only when I ate more than my stomach could hold. I quickly learned not to do that. I never felt full before surgery. I'd get an inkling of it and then the feeling would be gone and I could eat more so I figured I wasn't full. With the sleeve, I can almost always tell I'm done. I can't necessarily explain it. But I know it. If I keep going, then BOY do I know it. But I can't keep going and eat another dinner again like I could before.

We should do it together.

Today was the last day of our swim clinic. We got taped underwater. People who are good swimmers were very impressed with my elbows on my stroke. :crying: That was fun. But my excess skin RIPPLES around my thighs when I swim and that was distracting.

Oops, wrong thread. For this one... I joined the challenge but won't run until Tues.

I'm glad I watched all the way through because at first I thought that dude was SERIOUS. :crying:

Me too. Oh, you mean literally... Me either. Well, except for suit jackets. A lot of the clothes my mom sent me required dry cleaning. It was hardly worth it considering how little wear I got out of them. I still have a pile of clothes I have to take to the dry cleaner before I can take them to the consignment shop.

*Susan* revision from band to sleeve
MacMadame replied to *susan*'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So what happens when all the moderators at LBT have sleeves? :crying: I think you can get Isopure at Vitamin Shoppe too. But check first, because I've never actually done it myself. -
So far, it's been okay. I have 3 weekly workouts with my club and then I go to the gym 2-3x a week for a 45 min. workout each time. I've scheduled my tris every other month too. Then the 10k two months after that. But with the longer distances, I'm going to have to find more training time and that worries me. I have this secret desire to do an Ironman and I'm not sure I have the time to put to that.

Welcome to LapBandTalk. The liquids in the beginning can be a trial, that's for sure.

Welcome to LapBandTalk! I hope you find the site as supportive as I do.

Welcome to LapBandTalk! I was shocked at how hard it can be to get WLS. I had to push pretty hard too and make lots of phone calls. I hate making phone calls!

Dr. Paul Cirangle - Newbie from Hawaii-Just scheduled my consultation with Dr. Cirangle
MacMadame replied to camogirl808's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Dr. C is awesome! And he firmly believes in having you jump through as few hoops as possible so you don't have to spend a minute more in an unhealthy state (i.e., being obese) than you have to. Here is what I love about him: -he truly cares about his patients (though not always in a warm & fuzzy way) -he loves what he does -he's an amazing surgeon with a really low complication rate -he's very data oriented (as am I) -he will call you out if you aren't doing what you are supposed to instead of babying you -if you need him (medically speaking), he will be there for you He does have his faults, but most of them amuse me. On top of that, the program is fantastic. I have access to a dietician and counselor on staff as much as I need them and the surgeons run the support groups. I've gotten the best advice from them in terms of post-op life too. (Some programs gives out the funkiest nutritional advice.) I'm very happy I went with LapSF and with Dr. C in particular. -
My surgery experience (had my surgery 2 days ago)
MacMadame replied to RABarras's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Also, you got banded two years ago when there was less data on the sleeve. Maybe you would have been willing to get it without the 3 and 5 year results being known, but maybe that would have given you pause. I know I think about this all the time... why did it take me so long to admit I had a problem and that WLS was a viable solution? What if I'd had surgery 20 years ago instead of going to Nutri/system? But then I realize that 20 years ago I'd have a surgery type that would put me at risk for Vitamin deficiency and regain and very little support. Even 10 years ago the sleeve wasn't around so I'd probably end up with a band that eventually came out. I don't necessarily believe that everything happens for a reason, but I do believe in not dwelling too much on the past and looking for the good aspects of my decisions. So the bad aspects are that I struggled with obesity for 20 years but the good is that I got a surgery that feels like it was designed just for me and my food issues and has a high chance of working with low long-term risks. -
I'm going to have to disagree with this. You aren't more susceptible simply from having the family history. However, you are more likely to have the same genetic issues. OTOH, if you don't have them, then you don't have them and drinking socially is fine. I have a history of alcoholism in my family as well as a host of other addictions.... yet I can drink social a few times a year and be fine. I don't like alcohol that much so I rarely drink and I don't like the feeling of being drunk or high. I firmly believe that addiction has a large biological basis and that I was very lucky to be spared genetically. I just don't have an addictive personality and I'm not going to get one from having a Cosmo 5x a year.

1 month post op and loving it!!!!
MacMadame replied to neworleanslady's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you chew well, you should be able to eat more. I can eat anywhere from 2 to 6 oz. depending on what the food is. 6 oz. of yogurt, 2 oz. of pork. -
LapBandTalk.com is Moving!
MacMadame replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
I'm still getting the blank pages occasionally. At work, I use IE and Windows and the pages refresh and are okay before I can report them. But on the Mac and Safari, they just stay blank. Here is a URL: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=90381 But it's random which ones do it. It's much rarer than it used to be as well. -
Kissing the Band Bye-Bye! Yes!!!
MacMadame replied to Elisabethsew's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow, I didn't realize you were having problems, Elisabeth. Good luck with your sleeve. I think you are going to love it. -
I love it too. It's so much my kind of humor.
