Is your BMI less than 25?

I have a sleeve, not a band. I don't know the stone equivalent but I lost 90 lb. and my BMI is right on the line between 25.1 and 24.9. I would ask why you are getting the band removed and why you think another band is the answer? There are times when this makes sense, but a lot of time it's better to get a different surgery the second time. For example, if your band worked great but recently started leaking, then getting another one makes sense. But if your band slipped, most likely it will slip again because something about slipping seems to make you prone to it.

Welcome back to the bench for both of you! Here's hoping the sleeve bench is a little more comfy. :raising glass:

Help Me Get Up Off This Computer Chair!

My standard advice is to find something you love to do that involves moving your body and not try to psych yourself up to do a more traditional type of exercise you know you'll hate. Of course, if you love the treadmill, that's fine too. But most people think of exercise as something horrible that they have to do -- like going to the dentist. We have to change our thinking. It's not "exercise" it's "fun activities" and it can be anything -- taking a dance class, taking up kick boxing, figure skating (didn't you always want to be Kristi Yamaguchi?), riding bikes with your family on the weekend, even bowling. I have gone a more traditional route but that's because that's what I think is fun. So I bike, run and swim. Three days a week, I do these in a group setting with a coach and 2-3 days a week I do them in the gym. I'm having a blast! Oh and the group activities are essential to me. That's part of my exercising style to include a social aspect. The other thing that is essential is to have goals and to sign up for things so I *have* to train to be ready. Think about whether you want social activities, whether you need goals, whether you do best with a routine or if you mix things up. Then make sure the activity you pick matches your "exercise personality". If you like social, join a club. If you like social and routine, Curves is good. If you like to mix it up or you get bored, consider multi-sports like Triathlon or sign up for a different class at the rec center every month.

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

I was in your same place when I was at week 9. I would do two things. 1) Keep adding time. Most likely you'll end up running the 5k in the 35-40 min. range so you need to be able to run for more than 30 min. 2) Start doing interval training. This is fast work, followed by slow work. It will really increase your speed so you can do the 5K in a reasonable amount of time. I do my interval training with a coach at a track, but you can do it on your own with the treadmill. Just increase your speed and try to run at the higher speed for as long as you can. Then drop back to the lower speed to recover. When you feel recovered, increase your speed again. Do at least one interval workout a week and one "long run" a week. The rest you can do what you want. The combination of the interval training and running longer each week really helped me and I was able to do a whole 5K in my treadmill session about a week before my race.

    Thank You

When you go to the front page, you should see a listing of all the forums. There are so many so just pick a few to start. I recommend reading the FAQs about banding and maybe posting in the forum for your state. You'll also see a section on "Support Forums" and that's where the POST-OP Support section is.

I hate it when people post just to post.....

Done. I guess X-ray vision isn't all it's cracked up to be. Well it can. Plus your weight is changing a bit so it's not like it's an exact match. Are you losing inches?

    Calling all SLEEVED People

The pylorus valve. I don't necessarily agree with that. If the choice is between a band and a sleeve, you are going to get much better weight loss with the sleeve. Plus, they started doing the sleeves as a stand-alone procedure because those high BMI people who got it as the first part of a two-parter did so well with just the sleeve that they never came back for the switch. Some of those people had BMIs in the 70s!

There are people over 300 lb. who do triathlons too. I think people should "just do it". You can start really slow and it may take you a long, long time, but that's better than waiting until conditions are just so.. It's part of what my mentor calls being an "imperfect athlete".

Welcome to LapBandTalk! Look around and you'll get a good idea of what life with a band is like. The Post-Op and the General Support sections, in particular, are good for that.

Welcome to LapBandTalk! This is a great place to do research on the band. You get to see how people are really living with it, day to day.

But you won't friend me on FaceBook so how can I look out? Can't afford it right now. Here is what I think is going on with the frame. Many of those frames have to memory sources. One is built-in and then they can also read a flash card (like SD or Compact Flash). So it's possible that the fake family is in one storage location and your pix are in the other and the frame keeps resetting and showing the other location.

    March Exercise challenge

Our Tues. "Track" workout took place at a park. I ran 4.5 miles total! The workout was to run to the start, then do two loops (3 for the fast people) and then run back to the parking lot. I was able to do 2 loops and not the dumbed-down version and not that many people lapped me so that means most of them did two loops too. Whee!

    What temperature water?

    1) By the time our food gets to our stomachs, most of it already at body temperature. It's definitely all the same temp by the time it leaves your stomach. 2) If you maintain a calorie deficit, you'll lose weight. 3) All weight loss tidbits that include magic words (like "shock" and "trick") are bunk.

    Band to Sleeve People

My aunt lost most of her stomach to stomach cancer in the 60s and lived a full life. Your stomach feels just like it did before. You really can't tell you did anything to it.

  21. Welcome to LapBandTalk! I think you might get an answer to your question if you ask it in the Germany forum. Well, technically there isn't one just for Germany, but this one should have people from Germany in it: Elsewhere Local Lap-Band Support - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum
  22. Welcome to LapBandTalk! My advice is to do your research, make your decision, and don't look back!

Lots of races have the results from prior years on their web pages if you are truly worried. But you've got almost a month to and should get faster and your rate is probably already perfectly fine. I ran mine in 36'23" and I was in the top third for my age group! So you definitely won't be last or probably any where near it.
