Hey back. Ran over 5 miles today. Found out I got THIRD PLACE in the 2 week Nike+ challenge. Woot. woot. I don't think I'll log any running during my race on Sunday. Too much work and there's a chance they'll see the iPod and disqualify me.
-
I used to use The Daily Plate but now I use My Fitness Pal. They are both online so I always have access to them.

I ran over 5 miles today! Or at least that's what Nike+ said. I'm not sure I trust it.
-
Oh well, there you go... I think I'm going to do the Olympic course. It's longer and harder but it's on Sunday so I can cheer on my friend and not have to find a mountain bike. Exactly. It's your body and your band. I would tell the surgeon to go stuff it.

Nope. Our stomach takes just as long to empty food out of it as it did before. The only difference is that there is less in there than before. And if you put too much in, you definitely get negative reinforcement.

*Susan* revision from band to sleeve
MacMadame replied to *susan*'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I find I enjoy going out to eat more now because I spend more time talking and visiting and less time shoveling food into my mouth. -
I got to meet the Slow, Fat Triathlete! She came to talk to my triathlon club and then after I asked her to autograph her books that I'd bought earlier and had with me. I told her I was MO a year ago but we didn't get to get into it. She's really cool.

How long I must wait after eat to exercise...
MacMadame replied to Gabband's topic in Fitness & Exercise
It just depends on your tummy. I have to wait 1/2 an hour but everyone is different. -
I'm leaning towards doing this other tri a few weeks later. I'm going to talk to our track coach tomorrow and see what she says.

*Susan* revision from band to sleeve
MacMadame replied to *susan*'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Well, it's a band board. If you ask in the main section, everyone says how much they love their bands. At least that's what happened when I asked. But I couldn't get my surgery until the Fall so for months I hung out here and I started to get a different picture. I'm so glad I had to wait! -

Well that's the problem. This race is in 3 weeks and I have my first race this week. So I have no time to train. I'm taking it easy this week, recovering the next week and then the next week would be the race. I thought the movie was called Wolverine and X-Man Origins was the name of the series? I went out to pee and missed the first half of the preview for whatever it is and now I'm pissed!

MacBoy and I went to see I Love You, Man last night. It was pretty good, but I felt like it kind of ended soft.

I can't decide whether to do the shorter Mountain Bike course or the longer Olympic course. Both have their pros and cons.
-
And you guys all know me. I'm one of the few who did the sleeve first off. I was going to get a band so that's how I ended up here but watching people like Susan have issues when they followed all the rules scared me.

Band Out, Sleeve In! It's done.
MacMadame replied to Elisabethsew's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
At first you can't eat a lot. I found that very frustrating. But around 12 weeks out, everything opened up a bit more and I got to a point that I could eat enough to be mentally satisfied. -
Welcome to LapBandTalk. I didn't have that. I had an Upper GI.

I am new on the forum-want this-but my age may hurt me.
MacMadame replied to Betty Joe Williamson's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I know people who have had WLS at 65 and older. Try a teaching hospital. They usually take medicare and also they are better about not having arbitrary cut-offs. -
Did I tell you guys my FIL gave us his RV? I want to go out to the Monterey peninsula the first weekend in May and watch a friend from the East coast do a Half Ironman triathlon. Then I started thinking maybe I'd enter the Mountain bike one -- it would be shorter than any of the ones I'm already entered for, but I don't actually have a mountain bike. And haven't mountain biked since 2004. Am I crazy?

I road my bike. About 50 min for 8.5 miles. I was taking it easy since I'm on a taper.

Realize band is a low pressure system and Lap-band is a high pressure system. I have no idea what difference it makes but J&J says that it means food doesn't get stuck as much and it's more comfortable. I have no idea how'd you prove that with clinical data though. Realize band is softer and wider and has a bigger reservoir. It comes with a low profile port. The port has these little claw things that stick it to your muscle wall. There is also an option to sew it to the wall like the lap-band port. Some people like that and some think the lap-band seems "sturdier." Lap-band comes pre-formed into a circle and the reservoir is pre-creased so it has these little pockets. The port is higher profile but a low-profile port is available as an option. Realize-C, the newest version of the Realize, also comes pre-formed in a circle, but without the creases. In terms of weight loss and complications, the studies don't show a big difference. It's possible to find a study where one performs better than the other, but overall, taken all studies into account, they are essentially the same that way.

Doesn't your program has a list of pre-op tests they want you to do? Most want some kind of x-ray, upper gi, endoscopy plus an EKG, a physical and lab work. Then there is a nutritional consult and a psych eval. But there are other tests that you may need depending on your surgeon's practices and your health history.

Unhappy with band & looking for surgeon to remove it.
MacMadame replied to Kennedy Conway's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My suggestion is to just have the port removed. It's a simple in-office procedure, much cheaper and safer than getting everything removed and then you won't have the port issues. Your band isn't filled so it's not doing anything so why not leave it in for now? -
True Not true. Your body doesn't go into famine status until your body fat percentage drops below 5-6%. You need the calories to be healthy and have energy. I think it's a personality thing. MacBoy is easy going and generally acts his age. Mini-Mac is very resistant to change in any form and wants to both be 25 and 5 at the same time. We didn't do baskets this year. We aren't observant of anything and Mr. Mac didn't want to deal with it and I didn't want the candy in the house. Mini-Mac whined until she got her plastic eggs with money in them. We hide them around the house and she has to find them.

Band Out, Sleeve In! It's done.

I don't know why either. It seems to happen to almost everyone even if they aren't on a high Protein diet.
