Crazy question about 20 years from now
MacMadame replied to skinnymommytobe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Actually none of those things inevitable. Some people experience them and some do not. My surgeon suctions out as much gas he can before closing us up and I didn't have any pain from gas, for example. -
I would ask him what boughie size he's going to use. You don't want him to use the big boughies that DSers get because you'll have no malabsorption and their sleeves stretch a lot over time. Sometimes beginning sleeve surgeons are reluctant to use the smaller sizes that experienced sleeve surgeons end up moving to over time.
-
There is a rumor going around that the ASMBS is going list the sleeve as an approved procedure and not experimental. If that happens, the insurance companies will start approving it in much greater numbers. But it's just a rumor. Maybe she meant the approval criteria would be different... I'm guessing that because it often is.

Personal protection while jogging, what would you do?
MacMadame replied to SuzanneG's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Are there often people up your country road? I don't go out on the road from twilight on but that's because I don't want to be hit by cars. I don't like to carry things when I run either and wouldn't carry anything that had to be held in my hand. -

Good luck! I have Aetna too but my company has a WLS exclusion so I had to self-pay. Hopefully yours doesn't. -
I just came back from a festival with over 30,000 people at it. We all lived. Er, as far as I know.

Here is an article about how food and liquid go through your digestive system: Control of Gastric Emptying I found this helpful in understanding some of the rules.

Not "your" normal appetite, as in what you had pre-op, but a really normal appetite. Like thin people have. When it comes back really varies though. I think mine is close to normal now, in fact. It probably really isn't though. It's just that I heard all these stories about how "I'm 18 months out and I never feel hungry" and that hasn't been my experience. I do get hungry when it's been a while since I ate and/or I've exercised intensely, but there isn't a lot of force behind it and it's easy to get busy and forget to eat.

I Need a Boost-Me-Up- Please Help

Dr. Aceves isn't even my surgeon. But I did my research and I think Dr. A and Dr. Rumblaut are two of the best surgeons in Mexico. -
Band Out, Sleeve In! It's done.
MacMadame replied to Elisabethsew's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
 No, no. Don't find one you like before surgery. You'll may not like it after and then you'll be stuck with tons of it! I think we all have a mental image of ourselves and it's at a certain weight. For me, my mental image was around 155-165. So when I was above that, I was always being surprised at how BIG I was and now that I'm below that I'm constantly surprised by how SMALL I am! You end some somewhere between 2 and 6 then depending on how much you lose. I'm at 122 and my 6s are just getting big and I am in 4s in some brands. (Around the same height, frame and shoe size.) That's a soft, not a mushy. -
Crazy question about 20 years from now

My aunt had a partial gastrectomy in the 60s... She's still here. They've been doing the DS for 20 years and part of that surgery is a sleeve stomach too. Most of the time when people get nausea, it's from the anesthesia and it goes away pretty fast. I know one person who had nausea for at least 4 months but she also had other things going on. I know another person who had it for 6 months and her surgeon said that this sometimes happens and they don't know why. But it's pretty rare. -
Hey, I'm not but I wanted to say "Hi" and welcome to the boards.

Yes, it works juts fine on the Wii.

I was cleared to go back to the gym at 2 weeks. But nothing that strained the abs until I felt ready. I waited about 2 months for that.

Sat. I ran for 45 min and then walked the rest of the way. It was just a little tune-up for my triathlon. Sunday I swam 1.5k, biked 40k and ran 10k. I have never run that much before all at one time so I am quite proud of myself. My bike was a lot slower than I had anticipated though. I had to walk up one hill and found it was almost as much work as just riding up. So that's a lesson learned. I only got off because I was afraid I'd go too slow and fall over. For the next two hills, I just kept pedaling and I didn't all over so it was all good.

Don't you mean you'll "swine" to us about it?! Plus some study showed that the ingredients to make it a gel actually collect more bateria than not washing your hands. Soap and water, people. Soap and water! It took going camping for me. Even my cell phone didn't really work up where I was.

Oregondaisy's turn for sleeve surgery
MacMadame replied to Oregondaisy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The Hiatal Hernia repair can really be a doozy. It slowed down my recovery and made me rely heavily on the pain meds for a while. -
I think for a triathlete, yes. Some of them get up at 4am to get to their events! I never run two days in a row. It's just too hard on the body IME. I've only used it for biking and found the GPS tracking to be a bit spotty. I bet it's fine for runs though as they are slower.

Swam about an hour. Came out to about a mile but all done with various drills.
