Thurs. was Bike to Work Day. So I did. Then I biked home. It's not a practical ride for every day but once a year is fine. :grouphug: 18 miles to work, 21 on the way home (I got lost).

Exercise isn't all or nothing. Anything you do is better than doing nothing. Once you start doing *something* you can work on doing it more intensely or doing more. I started out going to the gym 1-2 times a week to ride the stationary bike and now I'm doing triathlons and working out 6-10 hours a week. I just gradually upped things.

Hi Amanda- I would research *all* the different types of WLS and not just the band. If you are going to be successful, you need to pick the one that works best for your food issues and has the post-op lifestyle you can live with. Here's a chart to get you started: Weight-Loss Surgeries Compared

Date scheduled for Mexico- woudl love pre-op suggestions!
MacMadame replied to HeidiK's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Have you tried the Pre-Op section. There are always people talking about how to get through the pre-op diet in there! -
Welcome to LapBandTalk! If you don't get a response here, try the SC section or the Doctors & Hospitals section.

Peeing in the wet suit is mandatory. But people still pee while riding their bikes on the longer races. Yuck. I don't want to win that badly. I'll use a porta-potty. I'm having trouble at work too. I don't like to talk about work in public though. You never know who is reading.

They are. You are so lucky!

only 6 days with a band, should I do VSG
MacMadame replied to brileysmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That was EXACTLY what I was thinking. -
Too late. Most of your responses have been snippy. As a moderator, I am strongly suggesting that you take a break from this thread and not come back until you can read disagreement with your doctor without taking it entirely too personally and feeling a need to strike out at others.

I've lost over 100% of my excess weight and I'm a triathlete training for the half-ironman distance. I understand you think your surgeon walks on Water, but I find most of his nutrition advice (over several articles) to be mediocre. I have done a lot of research on nutrition because -- unlike some people -- I don't just assume my doctor knows everything. Maybe you should do some independent research yourself.

I'm a big believer in the High Protein diet, but even I find that statement ridiculous. salad is healthy and has lots of micronutrients we all need. It compresses down really well so you can eat it and still have room for other things. Protein is very important, but it's not more important than anything else. You need to eat more than protein just like you need to eat more than salads. No thanks. I'll get books on nutrition that aren't full of horrible advice. Maybe for you, but not for everyone.

I swam tonight. Not sure of the yardage yet. (I'm waiting for the email with the workout list to come out.) We did a lot of stuff with kicking so yardage won't be as high as some weeks though. And I got out of the pool from the sides on the first try!

Yeah, I almost wanted to join them just for the name. There are Bike MS events all over the country, though. So maybe there is one in your area!

Here's the FIRST plan. It has you running 3 days a week. I can't run more than that... my middle-aged body can't take it: 3-Day Half Marathon Training Plan at Runner's World.com There are other plans though. Just Google "Half-marathon Training Plan" and you'll find TONS of them.

A triathlon suit. Or a tri tank top. My choice. I'll probably take the tank. One piece suits are hard to pee in. Congrats!

The Swedish band is now called the Realize Band (made by J&J) so maybe that's why you can't find a site for it. Lap-band AP is a competing system made by Allergen.

My swim coach today told me it was time for a new suit. I guess I'm falling out of this one when I swim.

Titanium Staples? and brief intro
MacMadame replied to blueskidoo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
They used to. But they have a new guy in charge and now they don't. At least that's the case in CA. I have a bunch of friends who got sleeves through them and then a bunch more that were subsequently denied because the surgery is "experimental." Morons. -
These same people aren't doing your sleeve, are they?!
-
My surgeon lists B12 as an optional supplements and said B12 deficiency is rare with the sleeves. Mine was fine the last time I had labs done so I don't take it.

Time to sign up for a triathlong, Krtork!
-
Poor lizard. Hey, I won an award from my tri club. Winning was just luck. They pulled the names of everyone who was nominated out of a hat. But someone nominated me! I'm so tickled by that.

I've been looking up 1/2 marathon training plans. There are ones that are only 9 weeks long! But 12 weeks is more typical.
-
Well they both just did the Wildflower Long Course which is harder than some Ironman courses so they have my respect for that.

Well I had a "two piece" when I was MO. Now only about 1-2 inches of skin showed between the top and the bottom, but I still had trepidation every time I put it on that people would be snickering at me behind my back. But I survived so I think I can do it now when I have a lot less fat. But not for my swim training. I have a 1 piece for that because it's strenuous.
