Not Banded yet and hate exercise

If you think you hate exercise, you aren't doing the right ones. Exercise doesn't have to working out in the gym or using fitness DVDs. It can be anything that makes you move your body. Find something you love to do that's active and do that. Don't think of it as "exercise"; think of it as your new hobby. Some ideas: Swimming, salsa dancing, joining a softball team, walking around the neighborhood, Water aerobics, biking in the park, ice skating, bowling, yoga.

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

I did a triathlon this weekend and ran a 10:43 pace during the run... that's my fastest yet and it was at the end of the event when I normally run slower than normal. I'm so stoked!

    Airlines/Nursing homes/ this and that

I"m so sorry about your dad. And that airline sucks!
  4. I don't know. I find things like nuts "stick" with me better than other foods. I'm not as hungry again later as I am with a lower fat, carb-based food. If fat activates grhelin, wouldn't I be hungrier after eating higher fat foods?
  5. Plus I didn't travel for my surgery but plenty of people travel to see my doc. Are they dumb because they traveled? I don't think so. He's one of the pioneers of the sleeve with above average stats. So it was worth it to them to travel to see him.
  6. It's great that you got what you wanted but not everyone wants the same thing.

Some doctors should not be doing sleeves

It's the internet. I never take anything at face value here!

    Sleeve Restriction

My first TOM after surgery was late, but then I was okay. Recently, I've been having breakthrough bleeding and I think my TOM is coming more often. But I don't keep track well enough to be sure. I guess I need to start paying attention.

    Complications after Sleeve Surgery

I gave blood at 7 weeks out and got anemic. I also was having trouble getting in all my water that week and I ended up with a kidney stone. All in the same two day period too so it as fun stuff.
  10. Well, that's something only you can say. What would be the wrong thing for me, might be the wrong thing for you. Just think about what would annoy you and make sure he's clear what those are.

Some doctors should not be doing sleeves

Eh, you have to take what people say online with a grain of salt. You don't know what her doctor really told her, for example.

    Post Op diet

That doesn't seem like a lot of food. I assume you'll be adding to it since you are very early out. I also think it's a pretty "carby" diet. I know in AUS they don't go for the High Protein, Low Carb diet after WLS like we do, but even if you don't buy into doing it that way, you want to have as much protein as you can whenever you are on a very low calorie diet so that you don't lose as much muscle mass.

    This is my story

I think it depends. I think my early hair loss was caused by hormones and later the whole "shock of the surgery/response to rapid weight loss" hair loss kicked in. Because I'm still losing pretty close to what I was during the worst of my hair loss, but it's slowed down anyway. I think that's because I've released most of the estrogen in my fat and it's not floating around in my system any more.

    Artificial sweetners

I try to use the artificial stuff judiciously. There is some recent research that *suggests* that artificial sweeteners may trigger sweet cravings and insulin reactions similar to sugar, but I think they are really just at the beginning stages of understanding how they work and I think the media has really overstated the case against them. For example, there is no proof they make people fat (correlation is not causation) yet the media acts like that is totally proven. I think the jury is still out and, anyway, you have to go by how your own body works on these things.

    June exercise challenge

I didn't do anything Thurs. but Mini-Mac and I went running Friday night and then Sat. I did run drills with my club (hill repeats. ugh.) and then went to the gym with Mini-Mac in the evening. We ran for another 15 min. and then played in the pool. Today I did another triathlon and I completed it really fast. I think I'll have a MOP finish instead of my usual BOP finish!

    New Features on VerticalSleeveTalk

I like the automatic media embedding. I can never remember how to do that manually.
  18. And, remember, I did agree that it would be better to have the nutritional info. I just thought it was unreasonable to think that the foods used as examples weren't crazy bad for you. It's like the "crunchberries" case ... reasonable people know crunchberries aren't fruit!
  19. The part I quoted ... which was a quote from Margo G Wootan, not from you. :wink0: I think she was exaggerating to make a point only it just made me roll my eyes and I think it weakened her point.

    Being informed

I try not to be rude to people online, but I'm afraid I was pretty blunt with that one. I understand the philosophy of wanting to figure out how to eat for a lifetime and not go through a period of big deprivation to lose weight faster. I don't necessarily agree with that approach (as I think it has some pitfalls including risking not getting to goal and not giving your body a chance to develop healthier preferences), but I do think a good way to lose weight if you haven't had WLS is to figure out what your maintenance calories would be at the weight you want to be and just starting eating them. But that isn't really what these people are doing. Instead, they are so attached to food that they can't imagine a life without high calorie junk on a regular basis. As I said to that woman: what thin person would eat birthday cake two weeks out from major abdominal surgery when her doctor told her she could risk blowing out her staple line and possible death? Only someone overly attached to food tries to justify such immensely self-destructive behavior. These are the people I was talking about before in the addiction thread who really are addicted to food and are either going to sabotage their weight loss or develop a cross addiction if they don't deal with it.
  21. The video is fascinating to an engineer and gadget freak like me. But I'm still glad my fundus was removed...
  22. Okay, first I agree that nutritional info on the menu is good. But I do think this statement is a bit of an exaggeration. Does anyone think that the fried mac 'n cheese is good for them? Or that when you order the brownie sundae with a super-sized brownie, 2-3 sauces, 2-3 scoops of ice cream and mounds of whipped cream and nuts that this dessert is really made for one person? Some of this stuff doesn't need a label for you to know it's bad for you. It's pretty darn obvious and, if adults need a label for not order it, then they are in denial. Other stuff on the menu had hidden calories and is designed to sound healthier than it is though and that's really why we need labels.

A New Home - Sleeve People!

She may not be able to related but she may be excited for you that you are doing something for your health. I know that's been the general reaction among my fit friends. The thing is, while you'd expect the overweight to understand -- and some of them do -- many of them are in the position where they have chosen not to have WLS for themselves. So you choosing to have it can be seen by them as some sort of negative reflection on their own choices.

    Body Image

I think everyone has a mental image of themselves and whatever weight they actually are, they still "see" themselves at that weight. Mine is in the 155-165 range. So when I was going down, I saw myself as looking fantastic and accepted all compliments as my due. Then I got below that mental image and I started freaking out when I saw myself in the mirror. I didn't recognize myself. I also, even though I am able to buy clothes without trying them on (sometimes) and do a reasonable job, still think of myself as slightly tubby. When I was MO, I wore a two-piece bathing suit sometimes. Granted, it had big shorts that covered everything and the top went down my midrif so that only about an inch of skin showed. But I was still enormous and in a 2 piece and I was okay with it. (I like 2 pieces because it's easier to go to the bathroom in them!) Now that I am a normal weight, I had to really talk myself into getting a two-piece suit. Granted, this one shows a lot more skin. But my top is totally thin and my bottom only has a slight spare tire. Yet I was convinced everyone at the pool was thinking I was nuts to be wearing that suit. That's just an example. There have been other times when it hits me that I'm thinking of myself as bigger than I actually am.

Cross between a band and sleeve?

I think this would be great for people who can't get around the idea of their stomach being permanently removed. But... I really wanted my fundus gone and a guarantee of limited ghrelin production and I don't see this procedure giving that.
