Otay -- tell me about the sleeve
MacMadame replied to Manatee's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm almost 10 months out. I have to say there is NO WAY I'd get a 3rd band revision. No matter what surgery you end up getting, it's clear the band and your body don't get along! Anyway, I have some links to posts from people who are 1, 2, 3, etc. years out from their sleeve surgery here: ObesityHelp - Gastric Bypass, LAP-BAND? System, DS and Other Surgical and Non-Surgical Weight Loss Options. -
Non-Scale Victory: Someone Noticed!!!
MacMadame replied to *susan*'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations! That doesn't happen to me as much as it used to, but it's still great when it does. -
Hey All, I am one of You!
MacMadame replied to htharris's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm almost 10 months out and that churning, gurgling feeling has passed for me. I think as my sleeve got less swollen, it's easy to get the food in there and digest it without stirring things up. If that makes sense... -
Another newbie with many, many questions!

So ... how'd it go? -
3 days postop sleeve and HUNGRY
MacMadame replied to hungrygirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My signals seem to come and go. I just try to pay attention. I know that if I eat as I should, I'll be eating slow enough to notice I'm full, but sometimes I'm just eating too fast or not paying attention. -
Is Dr. Aceves the only one who oversews?
MacMadame replied to brittu's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
There are docs in the US who oversew. However, there are also docs who think it's a bad idea and can actually lead to more leaks. So it's an area that surgeons don't agree on. -
Post op..I need help!
MacMadame replied to learned2bskinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some people don't respond to one PPI but respond to another. So your doc can give you a prescription for something else and hopefully that one will work. -
Accompanying me...or not?
MacMadame replied to BobBayCityMI's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You aren't going to croak. Bariatric surgery is very safe these days. Here's an article for your wife about that: Large-scale Analysis Finds Bariatric Surgery Relatively Safe It might reassure her. -
I used to go to the gym a lot but now I am mostly outside. I do something 5-6 days a week and some days I do two workouts. I'm training for a Half Ironman and I'm toying with doing an Ironman next year. I'd really like to do one, but it is a big time commitment to train for one. I think it works best to have a goal and to find something you love to do. I used to figure skating and I would test and compete in order to have goals. Now I have triathlon and I enter races to have goals.

Anything comparable to Nexium MUPS?

I was taking regular prilosec the day I came home from my surgery. It's a tiny pill. -
Having trouble transitioning into maintenance
MacMadame replied to MacMadame's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Jachut, that's it exactly. Today, after biking for 35 miles, including hill repeats, I decided to have HALF a PB&J sandwich. This is supposed to be a good recovery food and I'm tired of eating all these "engineered" foods. I used a whole grain bread and a low-sugar jelly. And I still felt naughty!, like I was "cheating" somehow. -
From a size 22/24 to a 4/6, Band to Sleeve
MacMadame replied to WASaBubbleButt's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
He calls it "right-sizing". It really does make sense to me. When people say "I can't see paying someone to cut off my perfectly good stomach", my response is "my stomach wasn't perfectly good; it was broken." It was too big and it made too much ghrelin. Now it's the right size and makes the right amount of ghrelin. -
Having trouble transitioning into maintenance
MacMadame replied to MacMadame's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I only count my Monday weight as official. That way I'm counting weight loss/gain on a weekly basis and all the little ups and downs even out. The rest of the weighing is just me being compulsive. I want to cut it out but I can't seem to stop myself. -
?10 days to shrink liver
MacMadame replied to ALISIA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Any weight loss will shrink the liver. Low carb is better, but even losing 10 lb. will help. Plus lots of surgeons only require it for their SMO patients. -
The DS adds intestinal bypass to the sleeve. They move the intestines around (i.e., they switch them) so they are all still there. The smelling issues are only if you eat white carbs. They give you farts that can peel the paint off walls, apparently. The rest of the stuff is old news and the newer techniques mean there aren't a lot more bathroom issues than with bypass. Here's a link to a description and in there is a link to an animation: John Husted, M.D. - Duodenal Switch

At my work, if it's hot outside, it's freezing inside and, if it's freezing outside, it's hot inside.

Having trouble transitioning into maintenance
MacMadame replied to MacMadame's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't think I ate anything salty. Last week I figured it was the strength training as I was very muscle sore on Thurs. and that's when I had the weight jump. But I wasn't that sore yesterday and I ate under what I normally eat and still had a big jump today. I think I just need to stop weighing daily or to accept that I'm going to fluctuate at this point. -
Having trouble transitioning into maintenance
MacMadame replied to MacMadame's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well I gained 2 lb. in the past 4 days. I know it has to be Water weight because because I am still eating at a calorie deficit according to My Fitness Pal, but it still freaks me out. It seems whenever I try to stop losing weight by upping my calories, I gain weight. Then I drop back down and I lose. But I want to maintain, not lose and not gain. -
i can't believe i STILL have so many questions!
MacMadame replied to photogirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also, mushy stuff doesn't stay in your tummy as long as solid food. It does stay longer than liquids though. -
You can ask but you can't demand. If people don't want to respond positively, that's their prerogative (as long as they don't break any forum rules).

I don't think they could legally stop the Jacksons from having a memorial service. So then they are stuck.

Not really. The school law book is *really* short. At the public school, they had a 3 page dress code and we were still always confused about what was and wasn't allowed. This place has a two line dress code and we're not confused at all. Basically, they handle discipline through a Judicial Committee made up of staff and students. So if you are doing something that annoys me and I ask you to cut it out and you don't, I have 3 choices... I can drop it, I can pursue it through JC by writing up a complaint or I can escalate the confrontation until I either get my way or get written up myself. Kind of like real life....

And you believe that but don't believe his first statement. Why? One of the statements has to be a lie but we'll never know which one it is... OTOH, if my kid could describe some adult male's penis mole, then IMO what went on between them was AUTOMATICALLY inappropriate. So what would you have the state do? Not provide crowd control? Not block off the streets so everything is even more of a mess? We're really screwed no matter what on this one. At least by asking for donations, maybe MJ's rabid fans will bear some of the burden instead of it all coming down on the tax payers.

For now... bwahahahaha. Wow, he doesn't sound like a very good fill doc. I'd be mightily pissed, if I were you. As for rules, I like one they have at DD's school: "If it bothers someone, you have to cut it out." We now use that one at home.
