And you aren't sleeping.... did your doctor give you some sleeping pills? I did a triathlon today and they messed up the times. They posted everyone's times up until the run but not including the run. At that point, I was in FIRST PLACE in my age group! I knew it wouldn't last though. I was 8th in the swim, 7th in the first transition, 9th in the bike and 6th in the second transition. The only reason I was in first place is that the good swimmers were bad bikers and vs. versa. I'm only an okay runner so I figured I'd drop. But for one hour it was AWESOME! I finished 255 out of 401, which is considered a middle of the pack finish overall and 9th out of 12 in my age group. I was only 15 min. slower than the 1st place finisher though. And a lot of people who won awards in their age groups were slower than me!

Most complications happen right away and that's why when you travel for surgery, most places have to stay for a few days (at least) afterwards. So you'd still be in MX. In terms of complications, sometimes insurance will cover them and sometimes they won't. It depends on so many factors. But having surgery in Mexico is not one of them. So you will be as covered as you would be if you had your surgery in the US.

Realistically.. what should I expect?
MacMadame replied to CherryG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
With a lower BMI, you will lose less absolute pounds, but you have less to lose so you will probably get to goal faster. I got to goal in 6.5 months, for example. (And then kept losing.) I lost 12 lb. the first month, 12 lb. the second, 8, the next and then 7 or 8 for most months after that, with two months of 6 lb. throw in there somewhere and only 3 the last month, but that's all I had left to lose. -
Be sure to track all your food too. If you are drinking a lot of your calories, you could be consuming more than you think. If you track, then you know exactly what you are eating and if you are in a calorie deficit. If you are in a calorie deficit, then it doesn't matter what the scale does temporarily -- the weight will come off and the scale will eventually show it.

For the gallbladder, some people just get nausea when it first starts to go and not the full-blown attacks. But hopefully it isn't that because gallbladder attacks are PAINFUL!

Hey, I was 255 out of 401! That's a MOP finish! (and 9th out of 12th, not 11th in my age group.)

I figured I could do it in 1:45 min but I also thought *maybe* I could do it in 1:30 min. if the course was flat enough. And it was! I finished in 1:32:59 and I ran at a 10 min. pace, which is the best I've ever done in a Tri and close to what I do when I just run and haven't swam or biked first. I was very happy. I finished 9 out of 11 in my age group. It seems that all the good swimmers were bad bikers and all the good bikers were bad swimmers. So that's how I got to be in first place after the swim and bike. (Oh and fast transitions.) But my run was only just okay and some of the good swimmers or good bikers were better runners. Or something...

I'm reading this book on Sports Nutrition and it says that caffeine isn't really dehydrating after all. I just read that about an hour a go.

Sorry about all the people whose relatives are having problems with serious illnesses... I also found I hated Diet Coke after not drinking it for a while. So, I did my birthday triathlon and I had a really good time and I finished in a really good time (for me). I went to see the posted results and .... I was in first place for my age group! I said "no way" and then looked at the total time... it was 30 min. short. All the times were wrong. They were the combination of everything up to the run. But didn't include the run. So I figured when they fixed them, I'd be out of first place, but I decided to enjoy it for the hour it took to post the corrected results.

I don't think it will. I was planning on leaving anyway.

It's under "Monthly Support Groups". Monthly VSG Support Groups - Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery (VSG) Forum Go to 2009 and there are some threads for different surgery months. If your month hasn't got one, just start a new one!

In my program, we aren't supposed to drink caffeinated drinks until we can regularly drink 64 oz. of uncaffeinated drinks. And anything with caffeine in it doesn't count towards our daily Fluid intake. I don't like coffee so I don't drink it. I drink decaf tea and Water and sometimes those low-carb flavored drinks like Fuze Slenderize and Sobe Lean.

If you just started getting it, then it's probably not directly related to the sleeve. Most people who get nausea as a result of the surgery, get it right away for a few days after and then that's it. Some people do continue to have it after that for a few months and no one seems to know why. Nausea can be caused by so many things that you really need to go to the doctor and get it checked out. It could be from eating too much or too fast, but it could be from your gallbladder (if you still have one), from an inner ear infection, from an allergy, from being pregnant, from the flu, etc. etc. etc.

You just have to read the labels. A lot of Protein bars are glorified candy bars with lots of calories (sometimes more than a candy bar, but often around what a candy bar has) and way too many carbs and fat. But there are some that have no more carbs than protein. That's still a lot more than many Protein drinks, but once you are farther out, you'll be eating more carbs anyway. I like the Supreme protein ones but a lot of people also like Pure Protein and Oh Yeah! bars.

Introduction (New Beginning)
MacMadame replied to nouveau-debut's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Me too. As a shorty, I find any weight over 200 to be really hard on my body. I was very annoyed that some people didn't think I was big enough for WLS once I finally decided to have it, too! -
I thought for it to be pureed, it's supposed to be actually blended - like in a blender. Maybe chopping it up wasn't enough? (The programs are all different on this one though so maybe your program allows chopped up stuff as a puree?)

Yeah! Congrats to her! -
I hate my job. I hate my boss. I hate my company. I hate pretty much everyone I work with. That is all.

MacMadame replied to blueskidoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They are sites like that. And they always say "we tell THE TRUTH" here .... because obviously all good experiences are made up lies. -
Well, I'm working on next year's version. Got my review today. Kind of crappy. No raise. Did get a bonus. I'm going to get a new car with it, I think. (Well the down payment on one, anyway.)

OTC Drugs which are ok for sleeve and which are NOT
MacMadame replied to BeardedItalian48's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Isn't that the one where you drink a bunch of stuff to get it going? -
Your body sometimes holds on to water when it needs it. Like when you consume too much sodium. So drinking water give your body the water it needs and then it lets it all go.
-
No. But no one *needs* the scale I want. It's just cool.... The main reason I want it is because of the handles. It shoots the current up your legs and also into your hands and that makes it more accurate. I also want to watch my hydration levels building up to a race.

Compulsive Worrier
MacMadame replied to Bornagainbabe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is probably why my surgeon tells us to take 45 min. to finish our food. -
You can't gain two real pounds in 1 day. It's water weight. Drink a lot of water and it will go away.
