Breastfeeding in public:
MacMadame replied to Wheetsin's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Part of what makes us/them rabid though is that so many women think they can't breastfeed, but really they've just been given horrible advice. I've seen so many doctors tell women to wean when there was no need or to supplement when there was no need or that there was something wrong with their breastmilk, when there wasn't. It makes me mad! I think our culture is not conducive to breastfeeding either. -
Posting just to post...

In all the studies I've seen, the EWL % is similar even as early as 1 year out, though. It's interesting and not what I expected, but I've read articles were people in bariatric profession say that the malabsorption of the RnY is negligible. I can't find exact numbers, but I've heard as little as 20% of calories are absorbed. That completely mystifies me since the bypass is often marketed as "you need the malabsorption to maintain" ... but if there isn't much??? I do think they are eating more than us by 1 year out as well. (Some are up to a cup of solid food by then.) Though I don't think anyone can be eating less than I do at this point in time. (I'm getting better at slowing down though and it's helping.) The more I learn about bypass, the more squirrelly I think the whole operation is. No pylorus value, you can flush the food out by drinking with or after the meal, minimal malabsorption of calories, but significant malabsorption of micro-nutrients. I really hope someday it isn't done and everyone who would have gotten RnY gets a sleeve instead.

I'm In Mexico-Having Revision on Monday!
MacMadame replied to 4meonly's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Your nurse in Mexico is named Karen? That's like when I move to Honolulu and ended up living on Clark Street! -
Had to have my "infected" band removed two weeks after surgery
MacMadame replied to jmh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think internal infection is always a risk of an operation and so proving anything is going to be hard. Unfortunately. But LuLuC is right... you paid for the band. Plus I believe Allergen has some kind of program for people who had defective bands -- assuming yours was defective. -

Good luck! My interactions with Dr. Aceves give me a lot of confidence in him! -
Hi Chris! I think all your huberslave posts will show up under Chris1982 now since your accounts were merged.

Hey guys from Western North Carolina!!
MacMadame replied to Amanda Pearl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome to LapbandTalk, Amanda! There are some threads on BCBS in the Insurance forum but I think there are so many variations on that insurance that it's hard to generalize. Maybe someone in the NC forum can help. -
Breastfeeding in public:
MacMadame replied to Wheetsin's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm not saying how long I nursed Mini-Mac for. :tongue_smilie: I only did MacBoy for 4 months because I had trouble pumping at work (they didn't have good pumps readily available at Toys R Us back then and I got bad advice from a Lactation consultant and didn't rent an industrial strength one). I'd definitely say formula is more hassle than breastfeeding based on my experiences. -
Kimkins must have put a new ad in the pile. Losers. (And not in a good way.)
-
You mean when they post to say "this is an old thread, why are you bringing it back up to the top?" when their post brings it right back to the top too! :tongue_smilie: I'm glad the old threads are there but they can be a land mind, can't they?
-
Ha! I thought you'd caught yourself before you posted. But I didn't see it so that's okay. You didn't fool me. :smile2:
-
Yes! Though I hate it more when I see a thread has new posts and it turns out the poster was responding to something over a year old. I feel tricked into reading the thread!

not constipated feeling, but not going either....normal or no?
MacMadame replied to Losing_It_In_Texas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still mostly consuming liquids so it doesn't surprise me that I don't go much. -
This thread is going to be sooo inappropriate!
MacMadame replied to WASaBubbleButt's topic in Rants & Raves
Okay, I'll allow that. :smile2: -
Good on you! :smile2: Welcome back, SnT! I never did either. But I moved around and walked a LOT!

Good book for post bariatric surgery
MacMadame replied to VEEJEE07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I saw the thread title, I came in to post about that book. I have read it from cover to cover and I really like it. -
Is your doctor filling just by adding more or does he take out what's there and put it back with more?
-
If that machine is what I think it is, it does measure your BMR (resting rate). But the calories you take in is a guess based on your current rate and how fast you are losing. I just had a similar conversation with my doctor. I told him I was taking in 450 calories average a day in the 3 weeks after my surgery and he said that was impossible given my rate of weight loss. Um, I don't lie about what I eat or tell myself that this and that doesn't count. I track it all on The Daily Plate and I'm eating stuff that it's clear what I'm eating (unlike going to a restaurant where you are sometimes guessing). But those sites are inaccurate about some thing -- they always over-estimate how many calories my exercise burns, for example. So who knows. He also said I need to exercise more and that I agree with. I just started back to the gym last week and this is the first time I've done two days in one week since ... well since a few years ago. So I think that's the real issue. Plus I'm not getting in enough fluids since I started mushies.

My recommendation is to not go by price except for if it's more than you can afford or if you narrow it down to two docs and like them both but one is cheaper. The reason I say this is because there is a lot of art to WLS. Different doctors have their different little ways and it can make a difference in your journey and your success. So if you find a doc with a great program and great stats, that you really get along with well, it's worth any amount of money.

Pudding is considered a full liquid by some. Anything that soft tends to slid through you. So I'm guessing your pouch is fine.
-
I know it can be done in theory, but I don't know anyone who has actually done it and I'm also not sure what it will add to the process. Did you get an older sleeve with a much larger boughie and now you can eat a lot? If so, the band might help. But if your stomach is as small as mine, then I don't see how it can help.

Breastfeeding in public:
MacMadame replied to Wheetsin's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The baby won't be bawling from hunger? Me too. That wasn't one of the choices though so I picked two the kind of covered that. Not me. I loved nursing but my youngest wanted to do it way longer than I did. I think the last two years I was just gritting my teeth trying to encourage her to wean without turning it into a big battle that would have ruined the entire experience for her. -
Yeah, ITA. You have DECADES for it to come back in spades. If you think you have it in the right mixes, then stop checking it.
