If you weren't obese "all" of your life, what is it that caused you to become obese ?
babbit replied to My Bariatric Life's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was always a little chunky, and I gained some with pregnancies. But when I was 25 I started having severe asthma attacks. Resuscitated and on a ventilator twice. So I spent 10 years on steroids, going up and down on the doses trying to keep it under control. Gained 60 more lbs. and more. New med in 2000, have not taken steroids regularly since. I've been up and down the scale several times. But never kept it off. Now I'm on this journey, so I can live longer, and more actively with my kids and grandkids. Hospital Bag (what to pack) ?
babbit replied to BBweightlossjourney's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work at a hospital- I will be taking my own pillow- the ones there suck! Also, my own toiletries- they do have those there, but often they are the cheapest things available and the last time I checked, the toothpaste was terrible! Also, if you wear glasses or contacts, be sure to bring cases, solution, etc. I also will take some men's boxers, but I will just wear the hospital gown. Have not decided about the slippers yet. Of course the phone, etc. And my kindle, for before. Oh, and if someone is staying with you, make sure they have change for the vending machines. Chapstick and biotene spray. Loose clothing for the trip home Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I can tell you I've had to take steroids a lot I've the years for my asthma, and I was always ravenous ! A painful hunger. Thus, all the extra weight. I don't have to do that much any more, thank goodness. But I did have my knee injected last year, and reacted the same. Shouldn't last but a couple days! Good luck! I just completed my pre op requirements today! Originally part of the insurance requirements was 10% weight loss, which I have worked hard to do over the last two months. Hit it on the head at the doctor"s office this morning. Then was told my insurance had changed it to 5%!! So now Ihave a cushion and can relax a little. My record is complete and will be submitted in the next few days. The wait for approval begins! I am so giddy right now, just to have made it this far! Thank you for all your posts, and I hope to be scheduled in June! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My WLS office gave me a letter that had everything they needed from the pcp, including 5 yrs of weight history, programs tried to lose wt, and a paragraph that she supported me having the surgery. It was fill in the blank and sign. Easy peasy! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Surgery woes: Grandpa begged me not to have the surgery

Where do you live? Maybe someone from here could take you home. Do you have taxis where you are? Might be worth the money. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
What are you looking forward to?
babbit replied to aprilnicole's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Playing with my grandkids, living longer to see them grow, shopping in the "normal" parts of the store, not feeling so self conscious, and not feeling so exhausted all the time! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Pre admissions testing?
babbit replied to brittanyandrea's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They may want you to see a pulmonologist to sign off. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I did have it yesterday, I passed, but I made sure I took all my meds before! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I'm from Arkansas. My pre op is liquids for 2-3days I think, the 2 weeks before that are shakes for Breakfast and lunch, then a healthy choice or lean cuisine for dinner. I think I can do that! Momof4ohmy- where did you get the unjury samples? I got some bipro samples from their Facebook page. And I love my cpap. I know that sounds strange, but I feel sooo much better in the mornings! I have my last nut visit May 5. I have done everything else but the psych evaluation, an my insurance requires 10% weight loss prior to approval. I am 10 lbs away. I talked to my coordinator today, and she said I should be able to plan on surgery in late May to June! I am so thankful to everyone on this site as I've been working to lose the first part of the weight law last month! can't wait! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

For those of you with kids.
babbit replied to choicemun's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My daughter and her family live with us, and my granddaughter is 8. She is very sensitive and very smart, so I've been talking to her about what's coming up. I am looking at surgery in June or July, so she's currently encouraging me through the pre op weight loss. The other kids are 3 & 8 mos. so they aren't aware of anything. They are a big reason for me wanting to do this! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Stall? Sleeved February 11th & What are you eating? & How much? Gas pains between shoulder blades?
babbit replied to Bsharp86's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It just means the nerves in the shoulder are somehow connected to the upper belly, so the pressure in the belly from the gas is felt in the shoulder. Weird. Huh? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
