Insurance requirement for "medically supervised" weight loss program
missvee replied to babyblues1957's topic in Insurance & Financing
My surgeons office does the nutrition classes right in his office and bills it to insurance as an office visit because I am getting weighed and going over what changes I've made to my eating habits based on the last class. This all gets documented for pre-auth for insurance Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I had an IUD inserted after having 2 kids, the youngest at the time was 8. The insertion was uncomfortable but not painful. I didn't take any medication. However, after 7 months of having it in and continuing to have a period every month, I started experiencing severe abdominal pain. Went to the E.R twice to have a call back 2 days after the second time to tell me I was pregnant and should go see my gyno. Went to the gyno she did an ultrasound and BAM! 5 months pregnant Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm going for my first NUT visit on Friday. I'm a little worried because during my initial visit with the surgeon he said not to lose any weight bc my insurance Carefirst bases the BMI on the last visit not the first. So I'm completely confused, if I'm doing the NUT visits wouldn't the insurance want to see a change or would they basically deny the surgery bc I'll be able to lose off of diet alone. I've never been able to keep the weight off and whatever I lose never is more than 15 lbs. and they'll slowly creep back on no matter how much exercise and diet changes I make. Any input is appreciated

Surgeon told me not to lose weight!
missvee replied to missvee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I filled out about 4 questionnaires and he asked questions about my parents what did they do, what did I do for a living if I liked it. It really wasn't that much although my results were surprising! I hold resentments and I have OCD! Lol maybe a little OCD Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I filled out about 4 questionnaires and he asked questions about my parents what did they do, what did I do for a living if I liked it. Surgeon told me not to lose weight!

Thank you ladies for the reply! The NUT told me to take in the info and be conscious of the choices I'm going to have to make but based on the insurance I can't fall below my initial weight so now I just have to make sure I don't drop during the process 2 weeks before surgery I will have to do a liquid diet so it's all good tomorrow is my psych eval Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Confused about insurance requirements for bariatric surgery
missvee replied to rocal6356's topic in Insurance & Financing
Every insurance company has their own general requirements but what would make the difference is what the plan your employers chose states. Sometimes the insurance company as a whole has variation coverage but the specific plan you have may not, I would call again and ask if they are quoting your plan or general benefits Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Insurance - 6 months or 6 visits?
missvee replied to Kelly1121's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My insurance company requires 6 months of supervised visits. My first appt with the surgeon was 2/10 and he gave me a tentative surgery month of August if all goes well I've done all testing all I have left is my psych eval on Monday. Time really does fly by!
