Pre-op liquid diet is rough... ~_~

Oh mine is coming up and I dread it!! I "tried it out" for lunch today - I drank just a Protein shake, and I was starving two hours later. I ate some strawberries lol. I figure since I don't HAVE to do it right now then why torture myself. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Stress & Anxiety

Def seek help. I suffer from pretty bad anxiety and I'm on medication for it. I briefly weaned off a couple of months ago because the med I'm on tends to make me gain weight. Needless to say I'm super anxious about the upcoming surgery and had a full blown panic attack yesterday. So today, back on the meds. There is no shame in getting some help and I agree, if you feel overwhelmed you should get in with your PCP. An urgent care type of place isn't the best for this type of thing. 4. My family is really supportive but I have a close friend who has given me a ton of push back. She sends me screenshots of the risks and says stuff like "how can you read that and say yes I want to do this!" She will say she worries for my kids and what happens if I leave them motherless. Stuff like that! She is morbidly obese herself with extremely high blood pressure from her weight. I honestly think she may be jealous. She's been flat out mean to me for no reason. So she did get in my head and I did freak out a bit but then I reminded myself of all the reasons I want to do this. Write them down! That's what I did. Things like - no more seatbelt extender on the plane, shop where I want, more energy, no more sore feet and knees, etc etc. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Was this your first surgery?

I have a lot of fear too. I think it's normal. I've had two c-sections, a lymphnode removal (from my throat area) and wisdom teeth removal. I have more fear about the nausea from the damn anesthesia than anything. I hate waking up and feeling like I'm gonna hurl! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. Thank you for that. I am so so lucky that my neighbor took my son immediately so he didn't witness it. He saw me a cry a little but I told him I had a headache and didn't feel well. I never want my kids to see something like that from me. It was really bad Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. I'm just having so much anxiety about my upcoming surgery on 4/4. I do suffer from generalized anxiety disorder and had to get off my daily med so it's really bad right now. I have started Wellbutrin but it hasn't kicked in yet (and now that I'm reading the manual the surgeons office gave me I'm seeing that you can't ever take whole pills again...and that extended release medications can't be crushed. So here I am worried about that, too! I have two young kids and I am just so scared. I have had surgeries in the past - but since this one is elective it's gotten me really spun up! I know all the reasons I'm doing it, and I know it's the right thing to do. But it doesn't seem to help quell my fear. I'm self pay so I have no special diet to follow (until the pre-surgical one a week before)....should I be weaning off carbs now? What about caffeine? I don't want carb and caffeine withdrawal on top of surgery. Since my ins isn't paying I feel like I'm not getting the entire process that a lot of people go trough and it's been kind of "thrust upon me" so to speak. I do have a dietary class to take on March 14 at the surgeons office. But that's it. No psych evaluation, no EKG, no endoscopy. Just an upper GI and that's it! 9. Thank you all so much. I just had a full blown, hyperventilating panic attack. I'm almost certain it's the Wellbutrin which I won't take again. I'm getting back on my regular medication even though it does cause weight gain. I just have to trust that the sleeve will help me battle against that. Logging on here and seeing these encouraging messages was just what I needed. THANK YOU. Really. Four week liquid diet....

Ah thank you! The surgeon wants me to do a 10 day clear liquid diet beforehand too, but the girl that gave me all my paperwork and booked my surgery said that tons of people can't do it and as long as I can do 5 days I'll be fine. I hope that's true! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Scared to eat different foods

Yes. I haven't had surgery yet so I am not "judging" anyone but I do think it will help to completely abstain until you feel like mentally you have the strength to overcome it. I'm sure it will happen in good time! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Help with saddnes

I think that in some way we mourn our relationship with food. If you're like me, you use it to soothe yourself and now you don't have that crutch anymore so it sort of just all comes out. I suffer from anxiety badly so I understand how you feel. I have recently stopped taking my meds (lexapro) because over the course of a year I gained 50 lbs! Having said that, I think an anti depressant is a good idea - Wellbutrin is a good one for people because it doesn't lead to weight gain. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Scared to eat different foods

I must have a super strict surgeon. I will be sleeved on April 4 and he sat me down to tell me that I will have to live an Atkins lifestyle from here on out (although prefers I not eat too much fat). He said I needed to come to terms with the fact that I won't be eating fruit for the first year, or any real carbs. He said three meals a day and absolutely no snacking because almost 100% of snack foods are bad. He said nuts are a slippery slope because they contain carbs so if you eat them, only have a few. He recommends not eating them at all. So to answer your question, I do believe introducing carbs will hinder some weight loss. Mainly because carbs beget carbs - just creates that cycle of wanting more. He did say that once you have met your weight loss goal you can work in some fruit and things but can't ever eat them alone, they have to be with a meal. Feeling disappointed

Forgive yourself now and move on. Being disappointed in yourself, while totally understandable, won't help you in the long run. You're human. Life gets in the way. Just pick yourself up, brush yourself off, forgive yourself and move on. Hang in there! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Help

My surgeon says that obese people are carb addicts and the way you treat an addiction is to abstain completely. I know that is EXTREMELY difficult for anyone, not only people who struggle with obesity. I am not sleeved yet - have a few weeks until my surgery. But I am also a life long self sabotager so I feel you. I also think it's super helpful to remove temptation from your reach as much as possible. If there are no bad choices easily available it will be harder for you to make them. Good luck and hugs to you. You can do this! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
