I had the SIPS Sept 6 2016 and have had absolutely no issues with acid reflux, heartburn or gerd.

How many pills do you take on a daily basis? How much do you spend on them per month? Where do you buy your vitamins? Have you had any issues with deficiency?

Bwahahaha!!! Pixiesleeve, I wish I could have hit a LOVE emoji instead of a LIKE, too funny!

Thats incredible weight loss SIPSGrammy. Really happy for your success. -
Hi DSers! I originally considered GB or maybe even GS as my tool but on advice from a doctor at my bariatric center I am now considering the DS surgery. But guys I gotta know...are their any veteran DSers who have NOT had issues with foul bowel movements and flatulance? From what I have been reading this seems to be much more of an issue with this particular surgery than the others. Thank you to anyone who responds to such a question. I know it is of a personal nature.

DS veterans lend me your history

Thank you shortycool,Gratifying to know that a question asked so long ago could help someone later. By the way, I ended up getting the sadi-s ds and am two weeks postop. Still early yet but so far very happy with my decision. -
I was thinking maybe magnesium, but never thought about dehydration. Sigh. So much drinking, and none of it exciting! Yuppers, I'm here on the loser's bench. It only took 3 tries, but as they say, three's a charm!!Leebick, it's lack of magnesium. I had the exact issue. If you can tolerate it pop a 250mg magnesium every day. Felt relief after first day and problem gone by day three.

Sounds delicious! I'm going to try this. Thanks for sharing. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App You can use the vanilla or the chocolate Premeire too but the Caramel the best if you can find it.

Diet and Exercise before surgery?!?!?
ridgerunner replied to Tanette's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started making changes to the way I ate 6 months before my surgery but I made small changes over time not in one big swoop. I also allowed myself designated cheat days so as not to be overwhelmed. I lost 65 lbs before my surgery. -
Anybody else feel like they are starving?
ridgerunner replied to Sinta's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am now 12 days post op and unable to start pureed foods until 2 weeks out. Thank god I am close because I am so ready for something resembling real food. I heard all the time that I will not experience real hunger during this time. I must be the first because I have definately experienced hunger several times during these last 12 days and it was very real. For me eating things that are warm and savory helps a little. I mix Unjury chicken flavor protein with broth and even strained creamy soups. -
I also have major issues with protein shakes etc. If you like coffee at all try this, it is the only thing I have found that is not just tolerable but kinda good. 1 Caramel Premeire protien shake 1 single pack nescafe hazelnut instant coffee Some crushed ice Almost like it came straight from your favorite coffee shop.

Honest truth about genepro protein powder
ridgerunner replied to PittsburghRNYgirl9814's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I find all protein shakes disgusting. I use genepro and love it. I can put it in just about anything, food, drinks, hot, cold...except milk based products but that's just personal taste preference. It will make clear drinks look cloudy but if you closed your eyes I bet you could barely tell it's in there. I am STILL pre-op so I cannot attest to blood work but I have read multiple posts in which others have said that their blood work is great while using it and several doctors are now recommending it to their patients. I THINK the science behind the 30g protein in 15g product is that they claim to put it through a process that takes out everything in whey but the pure protein itself. -
Any recommendations for DS surgeons near Western North Carolina?
ridgerunner replied to klwcm's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
@@klwcm, Please google bariatricfacts.org. This forum has a lot of DSer's. If anyone can help you its them. Good luck! -
Thank you for being so thorough in your answers. I really appreciate the info and advice. I am a somewhat obsessive compulsive personality and once I commit I am tenascious so I think I am a good cadidate for DS. There are a few things about this surgery that concern me but that goes for all available WLS. And I kbow that this one gives me the very best chance of losing ALL the weight and mosy importantly keeping that weight off. I saw you PM. I am going to check this forum out. Thank you for the direction.

@@Postop, The full DS is what I am looking at. I don't think my surgeon does the SADI/SIPS version. It sure is hard to find a full DSer in here so forgive me if I ask a million questions. Did you suffer from osteoporosis before your DS surgery or was it the direct result of the DS? Do you get your bloodwork done be your PCP? Does insurance pay any part of the cost? If you could go back and take even more calcium in the early stages would you? Is there a reason why you get only part of your vitamins from Vitalady?
-
Thanks Peggy D. I guess I will have to learn all the terms so I know what I'm talking about Lol. So you get labs every three months huh? That must get expensive.
-
Thank you James Marusek. Very good information.

@@Postop,The full DS is the one I am looking at. I don't think my surgeon does the sadi/sips. Thank you for responding. It sure is hard to find full DSers on this site so forgive me for having so many questions. I would definately want every six months blood work. Yearly does not seem wise. Do you get your bloodwork done by your pcp? Does health insurance pay part? Did you have osteoporosis before DS or is this totally due to malabsorbtion? If you could do it over would you have taken even more calcium in the early stages after your surgery?
-
Peggy D, I also noticed that you don't take an iron pill. I thought that this was one of the main deficiency issues for DSers. Am I mistaken about that?
-
Sorry ladies, I posted this on the duodenal switch forum because this is the surgery I am most interested in. I should have been specific in my question also. DSers have way different needs than other surgeries so I was looking primarily for their input. But thank you for taking the time to help me. Which brings me to @ Peggy D... How far out from surgery are you? Who is dictating what you take? Have you had blood work yet? How much do you spend on pills monthly?

Thank you for your help bariatricbutterfly! Nice to meet another DSer!! They are so few and far between. Your experience is super helpful to me. As it turned out I have to wait until August or September before I can have my surgery so I have ample time to weigh pros and cons of both Sleeve and DS.
