  1. For clothes, just buy a couple mix and match pieces in each size. Accept that you won't have a ton Of variety in your wardrobe as you slim down, but make sure each item makes you feel good.

For bras, you may be able to get a little more mileage out of them by buying a size too small in the band and using an extender for a few weeks. You can also use the the "chicken cutlet" pads to fill out the cups for a bit too.

  2. I had a mirena IUD inserted in preparation for surgery. I've had it about three months now, and I'm very happy. My periods are lighter (I've always had heavy periods when not on the pill). I do have some spotting mid-cycle, and for a couple days before and after my period, but I had that before, and it was heavier and longer in duration then. Definitely no weight gain from it. :)

  3. I'm only 3 weeks post-op, but I had an "Aha!" moment today.

I was reading health and wellness articles online, and one article regarding junk food had a picture of several different donuts. In the past, that picture would have triggered an intense I-have-to-eat-5-donuts-right-now type of craving. I would have walked to Dunkin Donuts or the bakery, bought a dozen, and eaten them all by the end of the day. When I saw the donut picture today, nothing happened. I simply read the article and then moved on to the next one. Like a normal person.

..........and that is how life is post-op.........good stuff.

I found that my cravings extended to grilled salmon, chicken breasts and such. It's a most welcome change and seems to be lasting and here to stay.

    Good stuff.

My cravings are all for fruit and veggies. I'm early out, so there just isn't much room for more than Protein right now.

  4. My doctor didn't recommend one surgery over the other due to my PCOS. Losing weight should help a lot. I do know some skinny people with PCOS, but weight loss typically helps regulate your hormone levels. (After the rapid weight loss phase at least).

With being a vegetarian, make sure you get some one on one time with the nutritionist. We have a vegan lady in my group. She counts Protein grams, but doesn't worry about carbs like many post-ops do.

  5. If you are able to take the leftovers home, ask for a box at the beginning or see if they will automatically put half of it into a box for you. Then just eat what you want of what is left on your plate.

It's also perfectly OK to just order an app or cup of Soup. My husband wanted to go to a place that served some fancy burgers, so I just ordered the patty that came on the lamb burger. I ate about half of it, it was fabulous, and only $6.

I split things with my kids frequently too. (By split, I mean I steal a chicken tender or two). Our restaurant bills are 1/2 to 2/3 of what they used to be when we go out, so I tip extra.

  6. The nice thing about the premier shakes djmohr mentioned is the container shape blocks a lot of the smell of the shake. A container with a narrow opening helps a lot. Hold your nose if you have to. I know we aren't supposed to use straws, but I do use them when I blend my own Protein drinks. I prefer the small amount of extra air from the straw to the large amount from the foam on the Protein Shake.

  7. You can thin the drinks down with milk or Water. My go-to is 8 oz fair life milk, 10 oz of chilled brewed coffee, and a scoop of either vanilla or chocolate Protein powder. My Protein powder has 27 g of protein, a cup of fair life milk has 13 g, so 40 g right there. Another one I do is skip the coffee, add some extra Water and a tablespoon or two of Peanut Butter powder (adds another 3-6 g of protein.)

  8. I had my surgery 8/15. I am having some issue with the whole social eating thing. Now when my wife eats around me, I do realize that I watch her like a puppy watches a toddler. The smells and sight of what she is eating - wow! How do you get around that?

It will get better once you can eat real food as well. You will find yourself satisfied with very little, so make it count nutritionally and make it tasty.

  9. Also, once you start eating solids you may feel quite full for hours afterwards and not want to drink. Plus you aren't supposed to drink for 15-30 minutes before a meal, during the meal, or for 30 minutes afterwards. That's 60-90 minutes out of your day, three times a day, when you cannot be drinking. Sometimes there just aren't enough hours in the day!

  10. my problem is that until today I had to take such tiny sips to avoid the discomfort with swallowing that it seemed I was sipping constantly for an hour and my cup would only go down an inch. I've been able to increase the size of my sips each day, and get more Fluid in each day along with it.

Definitely this for me. The first several days I could only take teeny-tiny sips. The Protein shakes also made me slightly uncomfortable. At first, it would take me two hours to get through a 12oz shake.

You have to constantly have a beverage with you. If I take a nap, or leave my bottle behind when I run an errand, I get behind on my Water. It's impossible to catch up once you get behind.
