Instant Pot! Good recipes and ideas?

It was a joke (pot = marijuana). The instant pot mentioned is a name brand of countertop electric pressure cooker. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Does anyone regret their surgery?

Wonderful! I hope they can figure this out and get you on the road to recovery. Hopefully you will no longer regret the surgery (as much) once you regain your health. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Does anyone regret their surgery?

Ginacampbell, I'm so sorry you weren't given full disclosure beforehand. Thank you for sharing your story. Most people do go through this surgery with minimal issues, but some people are really sent through the wringer. Each person has to weigh the potential risks and benefits and make a choice. But to make an informed decision, one needs all the information. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    The H Word

Just wait until you get to more solid foods. You'll be amazed how fast you get full. Two ounces of ricotta bake, and I feel like I ate Thanksgiving dinner. (My surgery was on the 12th) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Instant Pot! Good recipes and ideas?

Yes, it is a pressure cooker. There are a lot of safety features in this one. It doesn't scare me like the old stovetop ones. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    The H Word

I'm two weeks post-op. I've had both head hunger and been truly hungry. It does get better as you progress to more solid food (I'm on purée now). I don't have the feelings as often as you, but I do get feelings of true hunger. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Instant Pot! Good recipes and ideas?

I've made this twice: http://barerootgirl.com/nourish/2015/9/18/maple-smoked-brisket-instant-pot-or-slow-cooker-recipe The first time I sliced it. The second time I cooked it for an additional 5 minutes and shredded the meat. I added some BBQ sauce for my husband and kids, but I had mine plain. These refried Beans were also very tasty: http://www.allergyfreealaska.com/2016/01/03/instant-pot-refried-beans/ Nomnompaleo.com has some yummy instant pot recipes. I also found these two resources: http://workingathomeschool.com/2016/03/21/2929 http://www.theprairiehomestead.com/2016/01/instant-pot-recipes.html Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Mary Jane isn't legal in California either, except with a medical card. 9. A lot of programs have a set Protein target, and the shakes are a supplement to help you get there. My program says 60-70 for women (I know that sounds low to a lot of you). Yesterday I was able to get in 25 grams of protein from my pureed food, so I only needed one shake, plus a little extra. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. I forgot to mention the Protein supplements. I also drank two premier Protein shakes each day, starting day 4. Supplements: Starting immediately after surgery: Multivitamin 2x/day Vitamin b1 1x/day Vitamin b12 (sublingual) 1x/day Starting two weeks out: Calcium citrate 500 mg 3x/day Vitamin D 1x/day Starting four weeks out: Iron 60mg 1x/day Vitamin C 500mg 1x/day Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. I recommend having some ice packs. I found they really helped with incision pain. If you like your Water cold, I recommend getting an insulated water bottle or cup. I love my ThermoTank. Your tastes will change, so don't buy too much of anything. Yogurt was my go-to pre-op. I liked it for the first week post-op, and now I can't stand it. Most sweet things have an off flavor to me. remember you will be eating tiny amounts. A single can of Soup will be enough for 3-4 meals. Your stomach doesn't feel any different, though you will likely burp more than before. Certain things will fill you up very fast. Feeling "full" doesn't always feel like full did before. It may be discomfort, or pressure, or burping. Certain foods will taste awesome going down, and then sit like a rock in your new stomach. I'm two weeks out, and here is what I actually used my first two weeks: 2 bottles Atkins Protein water 1 package Jello 1 package jello pudding 1 package sugar free Popsicles 3 cans of condensed soup Several containers of flavored yogurt Cream of wheat Small container of plain yogurt Crystal light/Mio Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Dizzy

I was sleeved on the 12th. I'm going through the same thing. I get dizzy when I stand up too fast. It can be due to dehydration (I can tell I'm a little dehydrated, but not majorly). It can also be because of blood sugar or electrolytes being off. Or low blood pressure. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. Hormone dump is rough. It happens because fat stores hormones, estrogen in particular, and that gets released when you are losing quickly. I was crying the other day because my son's poopy diaper made me lose my appetite in the middle of a meal. And later the same day I called my husband crying so hard he could only understand about a third of what I was saying because I felt bad at snapping at the kids. Think mega-PMS. The worst thing for me post-op is the bad taste in my mouth and certain foods taste -terrible-. I can't eat flavored yogurt or real lemonade right now. It has a nasty, nasty flavor to me. I'm hoping that will go away when the bad taste in my mouth clears up. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Can't meet fluid intake

My doc recommended an app called "interval timer". For the first couple of days set one minute intervals and took a sip each time. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    I love to cook.

I love to cook too. I love baking bread. I may or may not be able to eat it when this is all over, but I can still enjoy the process of baking the bread and seeing people I adore enjoy it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. I treat my Protein drinks like a beverage, and keep drinking Water afterwards unless I'm feeling too full and need a break. I do wait the 15 minutes before and 30 after for food. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Water and smell issues

I have the smell issues too. I'm almost two weeks out. I can smell -everything-. absolutely no way I'm pregnant. It's normal, happens to a lot of folks. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App For the Water issue, if it lasts more than a day or so, call your doc. It could be a significant issue. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    17 Years Too Long

Oh yeah. I can smell -everything-. I cried the other day because I was enjoying a yogurt, my first food in two days, and my son sidled up to me with a poopy diaper and put me off my food. I was so sad because I -wanted- that yogurt and couldn't eat it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. That seems awfully low. Are you still using your Protein supplements? Two Protein shakes is close to 300 calories. If it hurts like that, you could have a stricture. Call your surgeons office and get checked out. You should be drinking fairly easily now, but only a few bites of foods. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Low carb

The most weight I lost on my own was following the south beach diet. I'm a new post op, but it looks like Paleo fits nicely with the new diet guidelines. I've been looking into that. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. Dear Jessica, Sadly not. After the honeymoon period, it is so very easy for the weight to come back on. I'm not joking. You HAVE to give it your best whilst the going is good... The core advice I'd give is... If you're a carb addict (like me) - NEVER go back to eating bread products. That way lies the devil. Actually, sod it, whatever your thing was before.. It so shall be after - because it used to be your friend. Everyone has to accept that. It is also easy to swap one 'friend' for another. Usually booze... It's hard. I'm back to having to be very cognisant of what I'm putting in my mouth now.. very... Your stomach WILL STRETCH. Oh, and I've found that i'm hungry every 2.5 hours - which can lead to EASILY maxing out on 2000 + calories. It's not a miracle, it's a tool - as everyone has said. I'm still trying to master mine... Not very successfully after having put on 22lbs. Maybe I should put down the glass of wine x Madame R., This is the best, most honest post I have seen in a long time. Thank you for this. I think everyone considering surgery needs to read this. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  25. You're still healing right now. You'll be able to do a lot more things with him in the coming months as your body heals. You'll be able to go out to restaurants with him and be satisfied with a few bites of awesomeness and good conversation. What was the fun part of drinking? Was it the alcohol? Or the company? Assuming it was the company, join in and have a non-alcoholic drink with him. For cooking, my husband isn't a big fan of leftovers either. If I re-tool the leftovers into something different, then he's fine. Leftover BBQ chicken becomes a salad or enchiladas. Leftover spaghetti reheated in a casserole dish in the oven with some cheese is magically a new dish. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
