Burst out crying prepping my first soft food
goplay94123 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So most of my posts have been fairly positive and I have been following my plan and doing well ( except for slight constipation ) so generally feeling good about the path I am on Today was my birthday and my 3 friends that know about the VSG took me out for mani pedi and came to look at some of the things I bought in anticipation of starting soft food tomorrow. Since they were with me I wanted to eat my first non liquid with someone around. Honestly some of the posts scared me a bit. I decided on an egg scrambled. Loosely. When I went to get the bowl out to scramble it I broke down crying. I don't know what came over me! My friend asked what was wrong and I told her all my fears of eating to fast, eating to slow, not chewing enough, etc. They told me I had this and oohed and awed at my scramble egg making ability hahaha. And they all sat there while I ate it making small talk to keep me calm. I was able to eat half over about 15 minutes just to make sure I could. It really helped having that support... Now I am left with the thought, will I have to get up at 3am to get this all in to be at work by 6? Did anyone else get emotional the first time you ate something other than a liquid Protein or broth? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Burst out crying prepping my first soft food

Hi! I think the fear was around choking or food getting stuck. I haven't had a baby but your analogy sounds about right. You think worst case scenario. After being on liquids Which I didn't have to chew, I was just being a scaredy cat. It was perfectly fine on the swallowing and stuck part. Then I quickly moved on to the "I won't know when I am full" phase. I was able to feel (comfortably) when I was full. So when u get to the point of food( non liquid) something u chew even if mushy my advice is weigh or portion per what your doctor says, take small bites, chew till it feels properly smooth and swallow. Wait a few seconds. Repeat. Give yourself time after each bite to have the food settle and let your stomach determine if it is full. If full stop, if not, continue till the portion is complete and then stop. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I hear you in that! I haven't tried injectables from there. In my area of the states there are actually Dr. Offices who do groupon as well. San Francisco is a very competitive market for that I guess!! Luckily (or not haha) my dr is actually in my work building!! And i totally agree about massage schools!! You really get a lot for your money!!! And because they are learning they really try hard!!! I guess at the end of the day, whether it is a massage or a new haircut or just a new bottle of nail polish or a magazine (I couldn't think of something small a guy may reward himself with).... We should all remember we are doing a great job and working this journey and we deserve to be treated! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I hear you in that! Hi all. The thrifty side of me is coming out as I see all of these. I am sure most of you use it , but there may be a few unfamiliar with it, but check out GROUPON to help reduce the cost of some of those treats. It also may give you some ideas for new treats. I live in a pretty big city so my available options may be more than many but dang you can get some good deals. Massages, restlyn, Botox, facials, teeth whitening, Pilates classes, body scrubs, laser hair removal, waxing, mini get always, etc! I always Yelp or google the places before to see if they are recommended. I just recently bought during their health and beauty extra 20% off 3 - 1 hour long sessions in a sensory deprivation floating chamber for 80 bucks!! I am scared/excited to try! It is supposed to help you center and relax. We shall see. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

@jamielogical.... Could you post some example meals that get you to 16-20g of Protein? I know you are in maintenance but I would like to save for later. I am at the soft food phase and am struggling to get even 6 to 10... Thanks so much!! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Follow up.. I put my big girl panties on (though a size smaller.haha) and ate today and feel great..no nerves!! Both breakfast and lunch were finished.. I am getting used to the no drinking for awhile after. And am getting used to the "musical music" my tummy is making for the last hour. I wanted to post a follow up so any newbie reading in the future that felt the same way knows it resolves itself. And dang - real food tastes so so good!!! Thanks for all the supportive answers!! I would say pickle juice is a craving for sodium/salt... Maybe try low sodium beef broth (it still has a good bit of a salty flavor) with a pinch of added sea salt so it hits the taste buds. Good luck!, pickles are my most favorite food and what I craved all the time, but the sodium made them a Nono for me having high blood pressure.. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

My restriction - or lack of
goplay94123 replied to MIMISAN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved the first as well and feel the same (though I am not on Soups yet only broths) and I posted too for this. Everyone says it is normal and as they are liquids they pass faster.. Once we get to mushy or non liquid the restriction kicks in again. Most people say the ability to not tense up or have an issue like earlier just means our stomachs are healing... PB2? Tell the truth, please
goplay94123 replied to WLSResources/ClothingExch's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I actually got this when it first came out pre-sleeve. I tried it and also had people at the office try and it does taste like Peanut Butter and is spreadable. I wasn't one to crave peanut butter all the time or p.b. Is my fave flavor, but I like it.. And PB2 tastes like creamy peanut butter without the fat aftertaste I guess? Hi. I am finding it very difficult as the days go on not to be impacted by smells. Everything tends to smell badly to me. I did really well drinking etc without being ill but some smells make me want to vomit. I was in an uber to the dr for a 2 week checkin and the car smelled like Chinese food. I am sure the hard working driver's wife made him food for the day. All I wanted to do was make him pull over so I could get out even though it was pouring. The next cab driver smelled of cigarettes. And it goes on and on. I can't stand the smell of my bedroom or me. My friends tell me I am crazy and everything smells fine. Does this go away, moderate or is it only me? Any hints to make it more manageable? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Ah! Penny! Why?!?!?(My 600 lb life)
goplay94123 replied to Kramer17's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I loved that show! The trainers were very supportive and the psychologists. I thought it was very well rounded and had a mix of sizes. All of the weight loss shows seem to have those on the higher weight to lose. What I think would be a great show (maybe help some people avoid getting to where I did) is one where the people are only 30 pounds or so overweight and getting them motivated to lose with exercise and healthy eating for the everyday person. I think that would be a very beneficial and interesting show. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Week 1 - Am I drinking too much too fast?
goplay94123 replied to newmeme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@tkcan. That is exactly how I felt! I even asked the PA when she called to check in if the dr forgot to do the sleeve after the hernia repair. She laughed and said nope she saw him do it. Everyone is different and for those that can tolerate the drinking of liquids, I say "bottoms up!" Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

I only needed to be liquid for 48 hours prior. Having said that I was required to lose 15 to 20 lbs immediately preceding the surgery. So I cut out almost all carbs except for twice a week and was successful in losing the weight. Here is a recipe that actually worked for me to eat almost every night. I always felt full and it was flavorful. Taco salad *2 cups shredded lettuce *1 cup shredded cabbage *2 to 4 ounces of ground turkey lightly cooked in low sodium taco seasoning *2 tbs fresh salsa *2 tbs of fat free sour cream (I only used naturally yours brand because it tastes legit) *2 tbs homemade guacamole which was just avocado with a ton of lime and salt pinch * 2 tbs Taco Bell mild taco sauce No cheese no beans(because I don't like beans) and no tortilla. I would use a cheat carb day with a tortilla that was low carb. If I was especially hungry I would add more cabbage and lettuce. The picture below is zoomed in to the toppings and below that is about 3 inches on bowl which is the lettuce and cabbage you can't see. It is about 290 to 325 calories depending on the meat.
