    Help please

I too was taken off my blood pressure medicine (great job to you!) but have swelling in legs as well (returned about a month ago being off the diuretic) (3 months post op right now) - What you are eating is exactly what i have been eating.. With Protein first.. are you eating butcher counter meat or packaged meats? I found i still needed to follow my <1500 mg a day sodium intake I was directed to follow when I was on BP medicine - and some of the "protein first" easy meals I did were deli meat, frozen chicken strips or filet, ground turkey, turkey pepperoni, turkey sausage - all which had a lot of sodium - so do many Protein drinks - go figure. I also added spice mix packages to - well - spice it up - and they can have a lot of sodium - they make lower sodium and no sodium packs as well which i have switched to for taco seasoning.. If you can - log everything in myfitnesspal or similar app and log everything you eat to see if sodium may be the culprit - Boars Head makes a great line of no sodium or low sodium meats if you can find them. Luckily my grocery store just switched to 100% Boars Head deli selections and it has been a godsend - they make no salt added turkey and roast beef - so I can add a little salt to taste without all of their salt.. If your grocery store doesn't carry you could probably ask the manager to order for you. http://boarshead.com/products/lower-sodium Also if you do deli meats where they slice it for you - ask them if you can scan the bar code in your app - my deli has let me. Ultimately when I went away from packaged deli meats and stuck with fresh chicken breasts and lower or no sodium meats, etc - I came back into manageable sodium and it subsided. I hope that works for you - I am sure I am not telling you anything earth-shatteringly new - but in case someone else searches on leg swelling - I thought I would post my experience.

    App notifications?

@@becomingmandikaye - do you mean the number of emails generated from the app? or the little red flag at the top? For me - I was getting too many notifications and anytime i added a comment it would "subscribe" me to that thread (when I could just look at the participated tab) - I had to adjust my setting via the Website (not the app) for what I wanted to be alerted to. 1. Click on your Username at the top right 2. Select My Settings link (top link on 2nd column) 3. Select Notifications Options (left side 2nd from the bottom of options) 4. I de-selected (unchecked) Auto follow topics I reply to under the bolded header Topics & Posts - or you can adjust the frequency 5. You can adjust what you get a notification about (via pop up on cell or a red flag) as well as email by de-selecting or selecting check boxes As for what shows as unread - for mine when i click into the mailbox it automatically clears the unread. I hope that helps

  16. May be tmi for some it will be about constipation. I see a lot of posts about what would you recommend purchasing or must haves for post surgery. I said things like Chapstick and food scales, etc. But I have to say the one thing that has helped me a bunch is purchasing the Squatty Potty. It seems that people fall into 2 camps after surgery which are those with loose bowels and those with constipation. I definitely fell into the latter. I am almost 3 months out and have gone through some really, really tough days of constipation. And I am sure people will be searching the word constipation so I will also add what else helped me. I am still rather constipated but try and keep my Water up and take dulcolax at night. And I am also patient with myself when I have that "urge" to go. I kept putting off buying the SP (25.00 on Amazon) thinking it couldn't help that much and would be bulky to store etc. not sure why I worried about that as I live alone hahaha. I finally broke down and purchased it about 2 weeks ago after a literal break down in the bathroom. I find that the new positioning helps me relax and not strain as much (which was a major issue and I was causing damage to myself). I find as well that the evacuation is faster (Not the speed but the time spent in the bathroom) It didn't solve the underlying cause of the constipation, but it is Surely helping me while I have the constipation (and even the few times I felt normal movement) I wish I had started using it a lot sooner. So I would recommend if u have 25 bucks to a spare to get one if u are in the same boat (or even a small step stool or kiddie seat) may do the trick. You can google some videos or articles that go over the height and feet position and some interesting facts on the evolution of the human toilet. Hahaha At the risk of pseudo embarrassment I thought I would share my experience! @@Alex Brecher u should carry them on the website! And, as with most of the posts on this board, I am just expressing what has helped for me everyone's journey is different and one thing I appreciate is when members post their tricks and tips. Some have worked for me, others have not. But I am glad I am on this journey to even try. Have a great and productive day! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  18. Come One Come All! - I received a message from a non- sleever wondering if they could join when this was posted on VSG- the answer is YES! bypass, balloon, sleeve, band, pre- and post surgery! Everyone is welcome to join.. Please remember to post BOTH a STARTING weight (5/30ish) and a GOAL weight (7/11). If I do not receive a goal weight by June 2, I will put in a goal weight -15 from your starting weight so that the calculations work and will update once I receive the actual value. Also, as an incentive, I will be donating 2 (to be determined) prizes: Actively Losing Weight Phase: 1 for the person who loses the highest percentage of weight at the end of the challenge - This category is for those actively in weight loss mode (like me) that are working towards their end goal weight Maintenance Phase:1 for the person who is in maintenance phase who's goal is to lose a few pounds or to maintain their current weight at the end of the challenge (which in my opinion is also very difficult) In the event of ties, I will randomly select a winner from those meeting the criteria. The prizes are just for fun and to hopefully motivate everyone to post their numbers.. When posting your weight either for 5/30 or the following week - just let me know which category you fall into Good luck!
