  1. Even the same insurance company has different plans and contracts within in. My mom has BCBS and I have BCBS. Her plan will not cover anything weight loss related and mine covers the entire process. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  3. You never know why someone else had complications. The facts remain that the risk for this surgery is very low when you do what you're supposed to do. As others have stated, you're more in danger driving to and from work every day. That being said, it is a risk. Only you can decide if it's worth it or not. 4. Every surgeon has their own requirements. Mine has a strict no gain policy during the supervised diet. They overlook 1-2lb differences, especially in the winter, due to clothing but I would think 5 or more pounds would be an issue. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Exercise pre-op?

I have been lifting weights and doing light cardio to get my body out of couch potato mode. I want to be as healthy as I can be on surgery day and prepare myself for an active lifestyle after surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. The sleeve is a tool that you're going to use to lose as much weight as you're willing to work for. There is no magical formula inside of the sleeve that says you're only going to lose 70 pounds. That's ridiculous and I'm personally upset that was said by a "professional." The game doesn't change... Weight loss is still going to be about eating less than you burn. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Chewable Vitamins

My packet says to start Vitamins as soon as I get home my program recommends the chewable vitamins for at least a month. My place has their own line of vitamins and protein- called Journey- and they just reformed their vitamins to be capsules that can be opened. I wasn't sure how I would tolerate chewing the fruity vitamins, so now I'll be able to just open the capsule and sprinkle the Vitamin into whatever Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Blood Clots!

I haven't had my surgery yet either. I was asking if they've mentioned blood thinners to you because I wasn't sure if everyone goes home on them or not- kinda like the pre-op diet debate, it may only be some surgeons that do that. Also, did I read correctly that you're wanting to be back to work "before 10 weeks" ? It shouldn't be close to that unless you have complications, right? Blood Clots!

Are they sending you home on a blood thinner? I'll have to give myself injections every day for a week after I go home. Physical activity and plenty of hydration along with following all doctors orders is really all you can do once you're home. If anything feels weird, call the doctor. 14. If you've been on the pre-op for a week and you've lost 5 pounds... That means you've cut 17,500 calories over the past week. It is pretty difficult to lose 5lbs in a week, especially if you aren't counting calories (as you said). Keep that in perspective and don't lose hope. You're doing fine and you have control over your own success! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. Yass! thank you so much! Officially submitted this AM and have a tentative date for 4/20! congrats to your approval and surgery date!! Are you nervous? Congrats to you as well! When is your surgery date? thank you! March 30! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. My surgeon recommended starting a basic Multivitamin to make sure levels are optimal before surgery. He also suggested selecting my Protein powder so that I don't forget about it. He said any exercises I can do, including abdominal exercises, will help me in the long run. I have been trying to eat clean, drink plenty of Water, and stay healthy. I'm 20 days out from surgery. my liquid diet starts in about 2 weeks. Did your surgery center give you a binder or anything with tips and instructions? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    6 days to go!

I am having surgery on 3/30. I had a couple of concerned friends, but once I explained that I knew what I was getting myself into, they came around. Sharing my binder of info with them seemed to really help. My mom was also worried until she talked to my PCP (who is also her PCP) about it and he told her it was a great choice for me. I just told everyone at work this week because I got my surgery date. They all seem excited for me. I haven't announced anything on Facebook yet and I don't think I will until I have a success story. Too many people know someone who knows someone who had a bad experience. Side effects are a reality but some people also flat out do not follow what they are supposed to do. Do you girl and good luck! I wish everyone success Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Getting sleeved 3/14 and I have a cold!

I have a terrible cold too, but I'm not having surgery until the 30th. Is it weird I'm still stressed that it might not be gone? Lol. Drink some tea and lots of Water and sleep all weekend. I hope you're feeling great on surgery day ️ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  20. If you don't want to tell anybody, don't! You certainly don't have to tell anybody what you're surgery is for. However, I told my coworkers and my boss. I am confident in my decision. I shared some material with them from my binder that I got from the Bariatric center. If you're confident, educated, and excited, why not tell people about the journey you're on? I have been met with nothing but support and curiosity. There is a stigma associated with WLS but there doesn't have to be if we could be more open about it. 24. Hi everyone! I am BRAND new to this forum. I am looking for support, encouragement, and advice... I think I have come to the right place! I am going through the Bariatric process with Kansas City Bariatric. I have been working with my case manager for over a year, fulfilling requirements and preparing. I am so flippin' excited I could scream! With that excitement comes some anxiety. I've been waiting for so long... It's finally real now! My surgery has been approved and scheduled for 3/30. I was given a binder with very specific pre-op and post-op instructions. I plan on following the guidelines to a "T"... I love having things written down and in front of me. My biggest issue over the years has been my huge appetite. I am ready to be DONE with this and get BACK to the gym and BACK to my life! I am so happy to be able to use this tool to help me succeed. I am 5'4 and 275lbs. I'm 25 years old. I'm going to my pre-op appt on 3/10 and my liquid diet starts on 3/23. I know this isn't going to be easy. It'll be tough and I might be wondering if I made the right choice at first... But I KNOW this is right for me. Is anyone else having surgery this month and wanting to talk? I'm cool with sharing anything from my binder or anything I have heard while going through my program over the last year. I'm cool with everything! Lol. Let's talk!
  25. Very exciting kjwrn! I just went to my pre-op visit and I am getting super excited day by day. It's finally becoming real! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
