I was sleeved 3 yrs ago and am now 32 wks pregnant. I’ve been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes and my OB wants to put me on insulin, because my fasting numbers run a little high - typically 102-103, when they want it under 95. I have been searching for info on the impact of the sleeve surgery and BG levels. Has anyone had any experience with this or have any resources I can share with her? I’ve controlled my levels very well with diet and can prove that I’m literally “high” for 2 or so hours a day, and that is still not high to me, as they want it under 120 after meals, throughout the day. My OB gave me the wrong advice on prenatal vitamins because she’s not experienced with gastric surgery patients. I refuse to go on insulin for this (what I consider) minor influx a couple hours, a few times a week! I just need to find some info to educate her because I believe this is partially due to the surgery and how my body processes sugar now.

***No need to scold me for smoking.*** I already know it's bad and pathetic - "why would I start again?" I quit for my surgery and like any addiction, there's a reason it's called "addiction." I started back up about 3 months post-op. I need and want to quit again but am trying the Nicorette Lozenges this go around. It's making my stomach hurt and I feel sooo sick. I'm on the lowest possible dose and not even taking them as frequently as suggested. Anyone else experience this or have any info on if sleeve patients should even use them? I KNOW we aren't supposed to be smoking ... That's a given, but I find it odd my stomach doesn't hurt with a cigarette but does with the lozenges.

Start practicing chewing the heck out of your food. It's hard to get used to chewing and chewing and chewing it, so it's broken down significantly before it gets to your new tiny tummy. You also need to eat much slower, so practice that as well. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Gaining weight after almost 2 years.. NEED HELP!!
sja replied to gomezk2's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Can I ask why on earth you were sleeved to start with? My hubby is also 6'1" and 230#. I know he wouldn't ever consider surgery for weigh loss. Not judging. Just curious. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I think surgeons are wising up to the fact that most of us don't/can't stick to that restricted of a diet for 2 weeks! If we had that kind of willpower, we probably wouldn't need the surgery. That's my theory anyway. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Do any of you vets completely ignore this rule?
sja replied to tenseintexas's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm a year out. Not sure if that makes me a vet or a newbie! I sneak sips from family, but it's all I can do because it makes me uncomfortable. Used to be addicted to Dt. Dew. Don't miss it. But I drink out of (gasp!) straws all the time with no issue. I chew gum (another gasp!) and I drink alcohol. This is life. It's my own rules. Do what you want. It's your life. My only regret was waiting so long to have it. I'd talked about it for 5 years. I could have had 5 amazing years added to my life instead of miserable ones. I was headed for diabetes, my blood pressure was rising and I knew I was headed for many health issues if I didn't do the surgery. I couldn't keep living that way. Everyone has their tipping point. If you're not at that point, you may not be ready. I asked myself "am I willing to die?" After I asked my doctor how many patients he has done the surgery on and how many died. And my answer was "yes." So for me, it was time. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I had my sleeve 2/23/16 and went on vacation 3/17/16. Eating was an issue! I also got tired more quickly, because I couldn't eat much. I was transitioning to soft food at that time, and it's hard to find things like ricotta cheese with marinara when you go out! Luckily, we rented a condo and I was able to eat things like apple sauce and yogurt, at the rental. My advice would be to push the surgery off until after vacation. Have fun! Eat, drink, etc. and enjoy it. It will not be as fun if you have the surgery before, I guarantee. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'll be celebrating my one year surgery anniversary next week. Wasn't one of the lucky ones to not be hungry. I also still have cravings. BUT water and being full help. If I'm craving something, a lot of times I'll eat 4 oz of lean lunch meat or a hard boiled egg. The craving usually goes away once I'm full. I also eat Mission protein bars - they come in several chocolatey flavors and it totally takes away my junk food craving. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I drink Muscle Milk, 20 g of protein and no sugar. I get the coffee variety pack and have them every morning, mixed about half and have with my Kurig Starbucks Cinnamon Dolce coffee (iced.) Oh em gee! Soooo good! I'm not sure my NUT would agree, but I'm also almost a year out and haven't seen her since I discovered this yumminess. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm feeling frustrated with my progress. From my highest weight I'm down 77lbs, but from surgery date (2/23/16) only 63lbs. I started working out and paying more attention to what I was eating in October. Since that time, I've only lost 2lbs! I'm eating around 100g of Protein a day, logging my food (around 1200-1300 calories daily) and watching carbs more than ever. People keep saying I look great, and am losing every time they see me, but it's just simply not true. After 3 months, it can't be a "stall," right? Is this it? Am I done losing? :'( Also, I started at over 300lbs so I have plenty more to lose. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I had GVS Feb. 23, 2016. The last two weeks I've been sooo cold. It's particularly bad at night, when I first ho to bed. I've only lost 65lbs and am still at a 40 BMI. I thought this might be an issue when I'm "skinny" but I still have about 100lb to lose! Anyone else encounter this with their weigh loss? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Thank you for the feedback! I appreciate hearing I'm not the only one. So strange to me because I was at the weight before, and was not cold. I have to agree with msujester, maybe it's lack of fuel, or the body burning up what it has to remove the fat? Either way, it happened way sooner than I expected! And yes, I live in North Dakota. It's getting chilly already so I'm gearing up for a lot of layers as winter approaches. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I had my sleeve on Feb 23, 2016. I've started noticing a major loss in eyelashes recently. Has anyone else experienced this? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Amazed76, the vitamins appear to help! I'm not sure if it's just time and circumstance or the vitamins but I'm so happy they're finally coming back! Yay!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Are you following a nutrition plan and exercising? I've lost 60lbs now (from my heaviest) but only 45 lbs since surgery 2/23. I'm at fault for not following plan. I'm ok with it though because I'm still losing. I know it would be faster if I was not drinking alcohol and was eating more Protein. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Does anyone's goal weight still leave them "overweight" or "obese"?

Crazy. I really don't have a goal weight!! Hmmm. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Haleymarie, don't stress! Stalls are normal. I went through a 30+ day stall starting at 3 weeks. I wanted to cry!! I thought for sure the surgery didn't work! Today, I wanted to cry again...but this time in joy. At 13 weeks post-op, I'm down 50.8lbs! (15 of it was prior to surgery, but I still count it!) Throw away the scale!! For me, it was an epic reminder of past failed weigh loss attempts and made me feel awful about myself. I stopped getting on it, until I felt my clothes getting looser - then I knew I may have a loss and I would jump on. Keep your chin up! It WILL come off! Thanks emmajones34! I was taking them up until I had surgery and then couldn't for 6 weeks following with my surgeons guidelines on size of pills. I now cut them in half and started taking them again. They really do seem to help! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My NUT doesn't suggest we stay on them - she wants us to get used to eating "regular" food but I know I'm lacking in Protein so I started drinking shakes again this morning. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My NUT & surgeon have me on flinstone Multivitamins, which I do forget to take from time to time because I don't think they're great. I'm no longer on any Protein shakes. Maybe I should start taking them again? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Stretchmarks and Surgery Scar Removal Creams
sja replied to IJustWant2BeALoser's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been using essential oils and coconut oil to prevent sagging skin & stretch marks. Not sure about the scars - they aren't too bad and I will never wear a bikini so that part doesn't matter much to me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
