  1. My gastric bypass surgery was 7:30 AM on Sept 22. No complications. I did a short walk that afternoon.
  2. Checking in at 5:30 AM. Surgery scheduled for 7:30. If everything goes to plan, should be in a regular room around noon. Wow!
  3. I thought my insurance company would take weeks to approve my surgery after I finished the 2 month nutrition program. Wow, was I wrong! I'm scheduled for surgery on Sept. 22. When the doc's office called me last Friday, they initially wanted me to come in on Sept. 16. I hemmed and hawed and got a week's more time to try and get my head around this process. Kinda overwhelmed at this point.
  4. I'm in the process of deciding whether or not to get the gastric sleeve surgery. A couple of years ago, I went on a camping trip in northern Minnesota in the dead of winter. We were on the trail for 4 days, the highs were in single digits and the lows dipped to -20 F. The guides had us eating a lot of rich food to keep our internal furnaces stoked. Will it be possible to do the trip again post-surgery and be able to eat enough to keep warm? Thanks. Bob

    All of a sudden

Thanks for all the responses. My insurance is United Health Care. I'm an employee of the hospital where the surgery will be done.
  6. Last Tuesday I started the official countdown to get qualified for a gastric bypass on my insurance. Looks like the surgery will be sometime in September. Wow.....

    The clock is ticking

I got scoped both up and down on June 16. Talked to a dietician and a social worker on the 21st. Started writing down everything I eat on the 22nd. So far I've averaged about 1700 & some calories a day. My goal is for 1800 calories a day. September seems like a long way off.

Foods for camping in cold weather?

Emilie, thanks. Being the cold-natured type already, I layer up with mittens and mukluks when I'm up north.

Foods for camping in cold weather?

Thanks for the advice. It'd be at least a year post-surgery before I'd head off to the north woods again. Letting the guides know ahead of time that I'd have specific requirements sounds very important.
