    Just being nosey

I had the surgery after the shock of being diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetes is gone. everything else is gravy. I feel great. I can go all day. I can do anything I want from yard work, to hiking, to swimming or boating - walking the dog - time with my husband - and just keep going. I have done projects around the house that sat waiting for 5 years before surgery and I just keep ticking them off one by one. I did not have any complications or hernia repair - nothing like that - and I can eat anything I want to, just I am satisfied with a small portion. I'm real good at knowing what to put up and how to reheat - so I don't waste anything. the weight is coming off slow and steady and I am thrilled with everything. Feels great to have normal blood sugar all the time.

@@Dub this is the most in depth I've read of your story - what an inspiration. hat's off to you.
  3. I have coffee. I mix half and half with fairlife milk and I use stevia most of the time - my Daddy used to call it "baby coffee" but it is what I like. I have a 20 ounce "cup" of it every day once I got past my first month I think? anyway. as soon as the team said I could
  4. I actually have a hard time eating enough on the weekends. during the week I am at my desk, have breaks and meals - it's pretty thoughtless to measure out my food and get it in by the end of the day. on the weekend I get busy with the yard, with the house, with my hobbies - or with family and sometimes I miss my Snacks or have a snack when I should have a meal. before surgery on holidays I'd just skip a meal when I was busy and eat a lot at the next meal. that doesn't happen anymore. like tomorrow with everyone coming over and fixing a big meal, I almost need to measure out one portion for that time, and one for later in the evening to make sure I eat right because when I am done with all of the cooking/clean up I don't really feel like fixing myself food again. the further out I get from surgery though, the easier it gets for me.

    Sex after surgery

it's a whole lot more comfortable for both of us, and feels so much more intimate now that he's not balancing above my big old belly that is gone. one of the main reasons I wanted to loose weight was to make some positions easier and better. no shame in that! didn't have any "problems" before but it's is a lot better now. quite happy. and for me, as I get older, know what I like more, and am generally happy, sex is a part of my life that goes from good to better to hello! it's only improving. hope it's the same for you.
  6. I don't think there is any correlation really. Although for me nothing bothered me before and nothing bothers me now. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. my kids are all grown but one, however it was important to me to be an active grandmother. One of my grandfather's died of a heart attack when I was 5 and it changed my life completely. I'd like to be around long enough that they all get born and old enough to remember me.

    Share Your Defensive Snack Strategy!

I make sure I have good food choices - 3 small meals, 2 Snacks per day and high Protein, high Fiber to make sure I am satisfied. I find the bad stuff people bring around rarely tempts me when I am already satisfied. so far, it's working for me.

    Any smokers out there?

none of my former coworkers planned to go back to smoking but it is a very difficult thing to quit, and I am thankful that I never started. I've had to overcome enough bad habits as it is.

    Any smokers out there?

they had the sleeve. and I am not sure - probably they were good about it for the first 6 months or so. I would say for absolute certain all were smoking again by 9 months post op.

Overeating : Low Carb v. Moderation

my plan has always allowed for carbs in moderation. we have a Protein goal, and calorie goal worked out with the nut but we are expected to eat veg, fruit and things like oats. it's worked very well for me. I would say I am still "low carb" when you look up low carb - but not super low.
  12. a coworker had this surgery a year before me and I suppose seeing her experience on a daily basis probably did make me feel more comfortable. my uncle had the surgery a year and a half before mine, maybe 2 years? and he did very well with his.

    Not eating enough

Sip sip sip no matter how you feel. You will loose weight but you'll gain it right back because this will ruin your metabolism. You have to have Protein to heal. Try things like refried Beans or scrambled eggs or cottage cheese perhaps you won't feel as stuffed as the fish made you. Sip Protein drinks. Keep trying every day. And please let us know how you are doing. We care. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  19. you won't participate in pizza friday's like you used to - but a lot of people make pizza with a cauliflower crust, or have a thin crust, or just eat the toppings (that's what I do) and then it feels good to be a part of things again. all in good time! it's worth all of this to feel healthy again.
  20. I am so proud of you! I hope that your path only gets better and brighter! the sleeve was the best thing for me. I am also so pleased with how things are changing for me.
  21. the first couple of weeks I had cooked food for the family to put in the freezer so I didn't have to fool with any of that. now I just fix our normal meal, I eat a little of the veg, I eat the Protein and I skip any Pasta or bread that we are having. If I make something like spag and meat sauce, I just have the meat sauce with veg. Last night the kids had mac n cheese, with ground meat (turkey breast and ground sirloin) and green Beans. I had some of the meat mixture with cheddar cheese melted like a wee ground meat burger. everyone was happy/ once I was on solid foods it doesn't bother me to fix other things for them and eat what is appropriate for me. so, once I was out a ways from surgery it really hasn't affected anything at all.
  22. well. I consider you an awesome success because you probably learned a lot about yourself and your triggers during those little side trips. and for long term success? that is a key component. 5 years from now I doubt it will matter to you if it took 12 months or 18 months, because I would hope and expect that your new normal will be a normal healthy weight. every day.

    Staples and x-rays

I just had a cat scan - but I didn't ask. I just asked how it all looked. the cat scan was for something else.
  24. I love cottage cheese - but I'll admit I usually have it with fruit or veg. or a meat stick, or lunch meat. what about a smooth salsa? can you have that?
